The only music school I could find for my daughter. Mel Kay worked with my daughter who's a very energetic child and yet quite shy. Signed up for 4 sessions and despite our crazy coparenting schedule my daughter enjoyed her time with Mel. She allowed my daughter to be herself and grew her confidence. Each lesson she walked away with something new that boosted her self esteem to sing more even if it's car-karaoke. Thank you for making her experience an unforgettable time.

We've been taking lessons with Hans for a few months now and he's been above and beyond our expectations. Although he's been teaching for many years, he comes to every lesson with a ton of energy, excitement, and expertise. I've tried teaching myself online and other online classes, but in person lessons with Hans has really thrusted my guitar development forward. He's got a very clear and comprehensive curriculum / philosophy, and takes time to walk you through a good balance of music theory, technical exercises as well as learning pieces that keeps you engaged. He's able to break down musical concepts into digestible chunks while keeping you challenged and pushing you a bit forward every lesson. He's been able to tailor the lesson to our current level and provides granular feedback when necessary. I feel like I'm in good hands.

I started my journey for vocal improvement eight months ago from a place of severe anxiety and unsteady foundations. I could never have imagined singing intentionally for one person alone in a sound proof room, let alone a crowd of people, but that's where I started: in a sound proof room in front of one person. That person was Mel Kay, a brilliant music teacher in both talent and attitude. She is patient and kind, skilled at her art and inspiring that of others, and is versatile in her directions and ideas for growth. In a short time, I found myself moving from a feeling of trepidation to one of excitement before lessons because of her warm approach to teaching, and six months later I was performing on stage at a local bar! I just returned from a trip abroad where I played at a concert for hundreds of onlookers, successfully, which I never would have dreamed could be a reality I actually enjoyed living through. Though I was the one who put in the work, the only reason I was able to accomplish this dream is due to Mel's tutelage. I could not give a stronger recommendation for a vocal coach to someone needing help on their journey through music. Thanks Mel!

Landon prepared all the detailed material for us (2 people private class for beginners in this case) to learn the basics. Very fun and useful class! Landon also shared the material used with us afterwards so we could practice

Hans Fahling is one of the most inspirational guys and guitar players I've ever met - humble, experienced, focussed and all supportive.Plus: he's a mentor and a teacher through and through. From the very first appointment I left every single lesson with a couple of new ideas and mini-exercises. Though they seemed to be technical they were well fit to my level and helped me focus on expanding my vocabulary and finding my own voice on the guitar, somewhere between Jazz, Blues, Soul and Rock.In case you need to find a way out of noodling pointless scales and into soulful music: Honolulu Guitar Lessons is the answer.

Several years ago, in 2020, I was looking for an unusual Father's Day gift for my husband. Since the guitar was always his favorite instrument I looked at how to start acoustic guitar lessons... a very daunting and intimidating task. At the recommendation of a work friend, I reached out to Landon at Honolulu Music Lessons. I had always had an interest in learning how to play an instrument, but thought I was way to old to start to learn an instrument. But, after talking to Landon, next thing I knew, I had enrolled not only my husband, but my 14 year old son and myself in a group family lesson. I do not know if I ever would have had the courage to do this without Landons approachability and his group lesson option. At the beginning, we were completely clueless, we didn't know how to tune a guitar, let alone play! But wth Landon's amazing patience and skill, the family lessons started and we learned to play the basics together. By beginning as a family/group, we did not feel so overwhelmed or feel like total fools. With his encouragement, we took lessons and practiced together. Before we knew it, we could play a simple song. Once we started to branch out into different levels, Landon individualized our lessons so we could learn at our own speed, stay interested and not feel outplayed by the others (AKA my son, lol). When COVID hit, it could have totally derailed us. But, lucky for us, Honolulu Music Lessons already was teaching on-line and we were able to pivot without any delays.Once restrictions were lifted enough, we were able to have our choice of on-line or in person lessons. Both we excellent choices. When life threw another curve ball, and we moved from Hawaii to California in May 2021, Landon once again pivoted without delay. We continued with the guitar lessons on-line and kept learning, playing and improving. We could have easily stopped right there if not for Landon. Even with a 2-3 hour time difference (depending on the time of year), Landon accommodates our frequent schedule changes and keeps us on tract. My son is now playing very well, and has moved to the electric guitar. He went from being embaressed at his guitar playing, to the teenager playing songs for his friends. It not only increased his self-confidence, but expanded on his way of thinking and who was in his friend group. As for myself, a middle aged working mother, I have to say, I am thrilled to say I play the acoustic guitar now. All of this is in large part due to Landon's supportive, patient and gifted instruction. Don't let your music dreams drift away. My son and I continue with lessons to this day. Honolulu Music Lessons is a brilliant choice and can take you from total beginner to a true musician. We are living proof. :)

Update 5/5/23: Landon is a consistently GREAT music instructor. Son has been going here for years. We're happy with the instruction and progress. Landon has a good set up, helpful too. Son has moved on from acoustic to electric. Landon helped son set up (plug in) amp, describe/adjust controls... and we're off to electric guitar music! Mahalo Landon for helping us enjoy this ride!!!

Landon cancelled our first lesson just after I paid the invoice due to having a sick kid - but he made it known 4 times that he would not allow us to cancel a lesson for the same reason. I guess I should have taken my sick kid into lesson any way ... Landon - you cannot have it both ways ..... Buyer beware.

My husband and I have been taking ukulele lessons with Landon Mattox at Honolulu Music Lessons Workshop for almost two years now. We have done in-person and Zoom lessons. He is patient and supportive of us as adult learners. He keeps it fresh and interesting for us with modern and old (our era) music for us to learn. Landon also gave electric bass lessons to our daughter when she was in high school. I highly recommend him and his studio for music lessons.

My son and I have been taking guitar lessons for over 2 years, and started with no knowledge of playing music. Landon teaches a variety of music to keep it fresh, is always patient and we have learned way more than I thought we ever could. Honolulu music lessons is awesome and they are true professionals ?

Aloha, our 12 year old son has been attending guitar lessons with Landon about 3 years. Previously he was going to Roy Sakuma ukulele. The draw to Landon, is his experience and learning sheet music. Landon has been very accommodating with our schedule- life's unexpected events. We are happy, loyal clients. :-) ?

I started taking guitar lessons with Landon when I turned 50. I never played an instrument before and I thought I had no musical talent. I'm still taking lessons with him at age 53, and I've made steady progress over the years. I'm still not an expert, but I can now jam with the recordings and with my friends who play. I appreciate how Landon helps me to keep improving. I know I would not have the discipline and knowledge to do it by myself.
