This was my first experience with Sixt, and they have earned a return customer. Check-in was a very smooth experience. Surprisingly, while the other rental agencies had long lines, I was able to get to an agent right away here.
The customer service rep was so nice. She entertained my kids, who were running around after hours on a plane, and even carried my Mother's bags up to the rental. Just a very sweet gesture.
The drop off was seamless. They have the first set of stalls on the 4th level, and again I found no lines. Got my detailed invoice right there and the agent told me where I needed to go to catch my shuttle to the terminal.
Overall, a wonderful rental experience. The van we needed was as expected. The car seats we rented were clean and very convenient. I would rather have an experience like this than have points from the other chains, for sure. We'll be back!

Check in was speedy, they had 5 people checking people in. This was around 1230 on Sunday. All the agents were very nice to those infront of me, and didn't rush them to help the next person which I found refreshing.
When it was my turn "the" Paul was very personable. I highly recommended.

Choose a better car rental service instead of SIXT! Renting a car from SIXT at Honolulu Airport was a terrible experience. We reserved a car online for January 5-9, 2025, and paid the full price. However, two days before the pickup date, we realized we might need extra time to pick up the car. We contacted SIXT multiple times by phone and email (including through Expedia) to request a four-hour delay in the pickup time. They only allowed us to cancel the reservation by paying a $100 fee and then rebook the car.
Since we had already paid in full, not just a deposit, we believed we should have access to the car during the rental period. We ended up reserving another car with a different company and, fortunately, paid $140 less for the new rental, offsetting the loss with SIXT.

Warning: Avoid Sixt HNL Branch
If you haven’t made a reservation at Sixt HNL, steer clear. If you’ve unfortunately already booked with them, take at least 20 high-quality photos and videos of the vehicle capturing every angle, top to bottom before leaving their lot. Document everything.
This location has a well-documented reputation for fraudulent practices. They aggressively push insurance coverages that don’t actually protect the vehicle you’re renting and fail to disclose accurate rates and taxes upfront. When you return the car, they’re likely to “discover” damages that were never mentioned or documented previously and pressure you into accepting responsibility.
In my case, the manager, Kandin, claimed the damage could have occurred at a hotel valet, even though I never used valet parking. I stayed at a military installation where valet services are nonexistent. When I pointed out other pre-existing damages I had noticed but hadn’t photographed, he acknowledged those damages but insisted the specific damage he suddenly “found” upon return was new and my responsibility.
Countless reviews highlight similar scams regardless of whether the customer had photos or not. That’s why a minimum of 20 photos and videos documenting every inch of the vehicle is critical to fight back against this type of fraud.
I will be filing formal complaints with state and federal regulatory agencies to push for an audit of this branch and its fraudulent practices including false damage claims and unauthorized insurance charges.
If you’ve experienced similar issues with this location, report it immediately to help hold these scammers accountable. Together, we can stop this exploitation.

Being charged for damage that we didn't cause is angering. Fortunately, I took pictures of the damage to the door we were being accused of damaging however, we were charged $125 for a "superficial scratch" to the tailgate. I no longer have access to the photos taken by the company. We could not see any scratch on the photos that were sent to us via the company but that clearly doesn't matter. We had to pay $125 for this supposed superficial scratch. I will never refer anyone to this company, quite the opposite. I will blast it on my social media how terrible this company is. Thieves is what comes to my mind. We will never use this company again. We would rather use public transit or walk rather than renting a car from SIXT!!!

No car available in spite of our reservation! Rental reservation started at 9:30am -- early enough to ensure it would be ready by the time we got there. We went through entire check-in process at the counter, and made it upstairs to pick up the key at 10:20am. At that time, when we're supposed to be getting the key and heading on our way, we're told the car is "still being washed" and to wait for it. Why is it not ready by our reservation time? We have limited time on our day trip, and needed the car to be ready when we arrived-- that's why we made a reservation in advance, and made sure to set the reservation to start early enough that it would be guaranteed to be ready when we got there. We've now been waiting for 20 minutes, and still no car. What is the point of making a car reservation??? We've requested they give us a different car since they don't have ours ready -- they've refused. This is unbelievably frustrating, and really defeats the entire purpose of being a car rental reservation company.

READ EVERYTHING not the fault of SIXT - Sixt experience was excellent, especially the customer service! However not SIXT fault will say as a Tesla owner, I rented the Tesla Model Y with the though that I would have access to the Tesla network of WORKING Tesla super charges. LESSON here is the network is FAR from the mainland options! There were only 3 super stations on the whole island and one of them had been taken over by Valet only
that makes you pay $6 per 20 min time as the Valet can only charge your TESLA car. Honolulu, HI - Kahala Avenue (Valet & Pay to Park, Floor 2) is the location I'm talking about. How can a resort take over a TESLA charging station? Next is the charging station Aiea, Expect VERY long waits for charging. Overall waited time with charge was 1.5 hours. Overall 97kw max!!! - The Ala Moana location was not a supercharging station and was also always full with a wait, and charged at 27kW. This seemed to be the normal on the island, very very poor power. Kaneohe's Super charging station seemed to be the best of the network, as it was able to get to 157kW and never had a wait. So if your staying in Honolulu, your going to wastes allot of time getting your car charged. I figured I charged 4 times over the 5 days I was in Honolulu, and spent over 4 hours in charging stations. If I was in my home town using the exact same Super Charging stations would have spent less then an hour and no way would the 3erd party charging station be that expensive. This was not worth renting for this reason alone. Hawaii is way behind when it comes to charging stations. I thought I would save some time before going to North Beach by using the provided converter at the Walmart "Electrify Home Station" offering 250kW" but maxed out at 180kW for, get this DBL the price! $$33 with taxes for a 55% charge!!!
