This is the worst CrossFit gym on the island. I wanted an open gym membership. Over the phone the owner agreed that I would have to take 1 class as an assessment for open gym to make sure I was familiar with the equipment. He then synced with his coach who had been extremely rude to me in person. He made assumptions about where I lived, what I was capable of and my CrossFit experience based on just seeing my face. When the owner realized that I was black, suddenly I had to be a member for 2 months where I’d be assessed for “culture fit”. I’ve been doing CrossFit for 5 years and travel around the country and world and I’ve never had any experience such as this one. It’s sad that other people of color are racist. I’ll keep my $200 and go to one of the many other gyms on the island. Extremely rude and disgusting behavior.

It looks like this place is closed. That or their location is wrong. I walked around the black a couple times and couldn't find any sign of a business.

I dunno why it's taken me so long to write this review...I've actually been coming here for 3 years now. As someone who has never worked out before this, never played any sports, nor has ever stepped foot in any kind of gym this was a big step for me in getting healthier and loosing some weight. Now 3 years later i'm not super buff or supper fit and cut, but i am fitter than I have ever been, I can do a pull up, deadlift more than my weight, back squat my weight, and actually miss going to work out when i haven't gone for more than 2 weeks. One of the things i like the most about crossfit is that i don't have to think or worry about what to work on, I just go in and do what ever is programmed on the board. Also there are coaches there to help with your form and posture so you don't get injured which is really important especially for someone who has never done any of the movements before. Having a group of people sufferin...i mean working out and sweating with you builds a bit of camaraderie and if you consistently go to the same time you get to know those who also go at that time better. The most important thing to keep in mind is not to compare yourself to others while working out. More so work on your own personal best, I don't do too much one rep max because that isn't what i'm into, but I do feel like i grow in strength and stamina over the years even if it's not that apparent.

After years of hearing about CrossFit, I decided to sign up for a month of the basics course at CrossFit Hawaii located downtown. I had read off-putting issues with CrossFit and its most devout adherents, including high risk of injury and a cult-like following, but I wanted to go in with an open mind and see how CrossFit works for myself. As with any large organization, your experience with CrossFit may depend on the individual box you decide to go to. I think CrossFit Hawaii is a great box with instructors who care about your safety and comfort level. Establishing safety and correct form are important when starting CrossFit to avoid serious injuries later on. The basics course does just that by making sure that members know how to do proper squats, pull-ups, and push presses. Despite the reputation that CrossFit has of attracting overly competitive athletic types into extreme sports, my experience was that the members at CrossFit Hawaii were friendly, supportive, and ranged in age and fitness levels. The basic course's Workout of the Day (WOD) was informative and challenging for a beginner. I sweat more in only ten minutes at CrossFit than I typically do working out for an hour at a big box gym. For people who lack discipline at the gym, CrossFit instructors provide the motivation needed to complete high-intensity interval training (HIIT) workouts in order to burn more fat and calories. It was tough, but I left feeling that I had accomplished a lot, and that my body was getting stronger with every session. The basic course is three times each week, something I appreciated after my first class because I was very sore. It took me a full day for my body to recover and my muscles to rebuild. My conclusion is that CrossFit is what you make of it. There will be always be people who will injure themselves by doing more than what they can handle, but the basic course at CrossFit Hawaii teaches proper form to prevent that from happening. I would recommend the basic course to beginners and advanced CrossFitters. I haven't decided if I will continue to go to CrossFit, but I did learn useful techniques and exercises that I can take with me to my big box gym. CrossFit also made me realize the importance of HIIT in order to reach my weight and fitness goals.
