Excellent care for your pet! I feel our dog gets a vacation. I think some folks use the day care services just because the environment is good for the pet.Tip: Plan ahead. They are always super busy.

Owner of Barks and Purrs have taken on too many dogs, 45 in a day! What kind of quality care can your pet get with so many dogs! It seems it's more like a money making factory rather then a loving, compassionate day care and boarding place. Would never send my dog there.

Richard and his wife are amazing. We were going on a trip and needed boarding for Molly, who was just a pup. To be honest, I was a hesitant because it’s so expensive! This is true with boarding in general, not specific to Barks and Purrs.Molly went for a trial stay and she passed the test.We left for our two week vacation and returned to a very happy dog. Richard and his wife took such good care of her. You could just tell by the way she was interacting with them. They gave us all the updates on her activities and behaviors.Worth every penny. Would not hesitate one second to hire Richard and his wife to care for Molly while we are away.

We felt so comfortable leaving our family member with Barks and Purrs. Rich went out of his way to make sure our dog was in good hands. Make sure all your documents are in order and give them as much advance notice as you can. They are very good at what they do...which means they are busy.

FIVE PAWS UP!!! I am so grateful to have found Barks and Purrs Daycare. I especially am happy that its so close darn to my house. Can't ask for a better location, just drop off your baby, and you can access the highway nearby heading either east or west. Richard is fantastic, very knowledgeable and he has such a way with animals. My little pupster gets super excited when we get there and now when I say "doggie daycare" he starts running around in circles and heads to the car, ready to go. He always looks forward to going to visit Richard and his furry friends. He comes home absolutely wore out. He wolfs down his dinner and then sprawls out on the floor to sleep. Richard is flexible with scheduling and very responsive and communicative. They also offer bathing services on site which you can avail yourself to while your fur baby stays in their care. I send my pup 2 days a week so that he gets much needed socialization and I get peace of mind knowing he's in capable hands.

Looking for a place to have your precious pets watched while your gone. We were too. If your in Kaimuki or somewhere on the east side this may just work for you. We just had a short trip outerisland, but couldn't bring our fir babies. Usually the parents or a friend can watch out pups, but not this time around. We called around and found it very challenging, almost like sending a toddler to daycare for the first time, they need vet records and a company to vouch that your pup isn't crazy and dangerous to others. We called these folks and they were very friendly and made it as easier to request vet records and willing to do trial run overnight to see how our dogs would do. We drove down and it's a little confusing to find, but basically aim for Salz Lock and Safe, pull into their parking and continue to the chain link fence and you'll see it mountain side. We met the couple that takes care of the fur babies. They were very welcoming and most importantly our dogs sixth sense accepted them right away. Their tails kept wagging, which made us feel better. Our dogs actually shake when we go to the vet and tail down, between the legs. We provided food for the morning, leashes and harness and that's it. They recommended not bring the beds because other dogs might mark them, since it's not a kennel environment. They can walk freely in the rooms and act like they do at home. We left them overnight and we're ready for a phone call, but no complaints came. Then in the morning we went to pick them up. On arrival the couple were still their smiling with our pups. Our dogs seemed happy with their tails wagging. They reported back to us how the dogs did and everything went well. I would recommend Barks and Purrs, because they genuinely seem to care for our dogs. Our dogs were happy and we felt safe to have them watched there.

We switched out Minnie here from a different doggie day care because it's closer to home. We couldn't be happier. Richard is obviously very knowledgeable and very caring towards the dogs. Our dog is very active so she comes back extra tired from going to the day care and sleeps for the next day.The only thing is that her feet always come back extra dirty but we just wipe her down, it's not a big deal. We think it's because she plays extra hard. Totally 100% recommend this place.

This is a long overdue review. Last Xmas our family planned a big trip to Orlando. We found Barks and Purrs on Yelp and they had stellar reviews. The night before our flights our dog got the runs. My hubby took him to VASH - he was fine but would need to take meds and a bland diet. We were not sure if we could board our baby after all and my hubby might need to stay home to care for him. Luckily Rich is a vet tech and was willing to provide our baby with additional care until he got better. Our baby was fine and by all accounts had a great time. We also recommended Rich to a friend and their dog was also boarded during the holidays. We will definitely return again. 10 stars!

I was going to be out of town for a couple of weeks and was hesitant to board my epileptic dog in a vet kennel for that long but at the same time didn't want to pay so much for each dose of my dog's medications for other pet sitters. After weighing all of the options on Oahu (and Maui), I decided on Barks and Purrs and definitely felt this was the best decision for my dog.

Olive, our 18 month Shihtzu stayed with Richard for 10 days at Barks and Purrs Daycare while our family was on vacation. Olive had so much fun that she didn’t want to leave. Richard also sent us pictures of Olive and his wife Cami gave her a bath just before we picked up.

Barks and Purrs has been a five star experience for my very senior dog, Latté and me. When I pick her up after work she is always relaxed and content after a day of socializing and TLC. Richard's knowledge and rich experience in veterinary medicine and pet handling is reassuring - he knows exactly what to do if there's an emergency and is qualified to offer helpful advice and therapeutic services. The location is convenient with ample parking. Thank you, Barks and Purrs, for a big improvement in my dog's overall condition!
