It's a well staffed location so it's great if you work downtown, but there's no parking anywhere nearby so you're better off going to any of their other nearby branches

We are a local business here in Kailua, and we also have offices on the mainland as well. One of our clients who banks with American Savings Bank, made a purchase with our firm. Upon requesting a bank wire to satisfy his acquisition he was told to cancel because we were a fraudulent business. Firstly that is untrue and defaming, secondly if the GM (Chris Waianae branch) took the simple initiative to look us up she would have seen that we are the highest rated precious metals dealer in the state of Hawaii, she would have seen a sterling reputation on the BBB, and nothing but high remarks for the service that we provide. Not only is the business practice of making baseless claims reckless, this is also damaging to local business. I understand that with the current interest rate hiking environment, regional banks are under pressure and dont want to see money leaving their coffers, but the lack of common sense is downright scary. That GM has no financial license, yet is giving investment advice. Consumers need to be aware of how this bank does business.David MorenfeldCasey-Rose & Partners LLC, dba National Gold Group

Definitely not a bank to do any foreign exchange with. They set their own rates and rip off the customer. On their website they claim to offer competitive rates, but don't be fooled and make sure you get a quote before you complete any foreign currency exchange transaction. I learned my lesson the hard way.

They make it ao difficultto just remove tijr name from an account. You need to close the account and then reopen a new account. However you can just add anyone to your account without reopening another one.

My elderly mom and brother have a checking account with ASB, and I wanted to help my mom by getting access to create an online account to pay bill etc. so I created an account for her. I was told by customer service agent and manager at the online accounts department that I cannot create an online account for my mom and they disabled the existing account. She will have to do this herself and be able to maneuver within the website independently and I cannot help her. I was like- what? I can help my mother if I want to. The manager said no she has to be able to independently do this on her own and if she cannot then they will disable the online access again. I can come in with my mom to a branch to complete a signature card so that I can create an account for her. I told the manager that my mom cannot walk but she can talk on the phone or we can do a virtual call, so she does not have to physically walk into a branch. The manager said no she has to come into the branch as ASB does not allow virtual visits and there are no exceptions. I asked her if someone is sick or in the hospital or disabled how would a family get access to the account to pay bills or do other transactions? The manager said unfortunately the individuals will have to come in whether they are in hospital or if they are unable to walk. There is no way around it and ASB does not do virtual visits. She explained this is a privacy issue. I asked to speak to her manager, Lana M, and she said she probably won't call you back right away as she was busy then I asked for her direct line or email and the manager said she cannot give this out. This is crazy~. I left the message on Monday 1/9 and have no return call. I called again to follow up earlier in the week and they said she will return my call shortly. I think the fact that ASB does not try to service customers in these situations makes it really difficult to continue banking with them. We deal with other banks and credit unions, which are reasonably able to accommodate us. It may be better to move our account elsewhere.. there does not seem to be anyone with judgement and when you try to escalate to speak to a manager, no one calls back. I am looking at other yelp reviews now and noticed there is a Lana M. who seems to be replying to these Yelp reviews within the same day of other posts. wondering if this is the same person who I left several messages for this whole week who has not gotten back to me- its ironic that the manager cannot give out direct phone number or email of Lana M but I do see her replies to yelp reviews advising those who did not give high ratings to email her.

I worked with Debbie Goto and Daniel Fukao, the loan officers and they gave me the best rates. They are so thorough, responsive and helpful. The whole process of a purchasing our first big home is so seamless and a breeze. They're in constant communication and explains everything. The best loan officers to work with and would highly recommend them. Mahalo!

This is my bank. The people here are warm professional and helpful. Since I lost my job recently, I have literally gone thru my savings but they have given me invaluable support and info to help ease some of the pressure. I am greeted by name each time I walk in and for me that is important. Thank you to the staff at ASB Bishop St.!!The bank loses one star from me however because they need to make your statements easier to understand. I do most of my purchases online and many times have no idea what or where certain transactions are from. A little more info would be greatly appreciated. when someone hacked my account, I missed one unauthorized transaction on my statement and the investigator deemed my entire complaint to be specious. That was and still is a huge problem that caused me to incur fines and penalties that I should never have in the first place,

Updated review 9/26 I walked in to take care of my father's accounts and was helped by Kristine Gomez. From the very beginning, she was helpful and answered all of my questions. She helped me in selecting the best option of what I should do and offered her condolences. She was very professional, kind, and easy to talk to. I had to have my affidavit notarized and it just so happens she does this service too. I was able to get everything done in 15 minutes. Thank you so much Kristine!!

1 star is X10 more than earned. I do not feel that this bank respects us as human beings. They use us for the dollars that we put in ASB system and that is all we are to them. They are slooooow with anything that has to do with actually having to take out money to use for ourselves. Even their ZELLE is slow! Use any other bank than them. I went to find a different bank with much better results and service. I literally feel now that my money is safe and my own. I am in process of transfering my money out of ASB.You cannot make purchases and pay bills easily with ASB. They may try to say they are not releasing money easily for security reasons but I don't believe them. They have restrictions on anything but what will make them money. They don't allow us to put alerts on balance amounts either. That way if we ever go over balance, they earn more fees. Don't join American Savings Bank.

I'm not surprised that this bank has only 2 stars. I used them to purchase my first apartment. My realtor had a pre-existing relationship with a mortgage broker at ASB. I was new to the home buying process and didn't know that I could insist on using a different lender for my mortgage. From the outset, all the way to closing, the lender was overtly rude. My mother had just passed away and left me a small inheritance, but enough for a down payment. The lender made an already stressful experience more difficult with her attitude. At closing, when my realtor gave me a housewarming/appreciation gift, the lender said, "Oh I left mine In the car." With a smirk on her face. A gift wasn't even necessary, so I don't even know why she made any overtures for snark at that moment. It was a horrible experience. If you have a choice of mortgage brokers, go anywhere else.

Re opened a account here and after third visit, two of the woman working here already knew me by last name and would always greet me and make me feel welcome. Always friendly, very professional and always willing to help and give me the answers I need when asked. Very much recommend this bank. By far friendliest staff at this ASB

I understand wait times are long, but after listening to the 4 commercials on loop ? to the point that ive memorized them just to get to someone just for her to hang up on customer is bad customer service. I just asked a question and if she couldn't help me, get me to a supervisor who can. Where is the callback feature on this thing?

Much improvement to customer service! I do not normally bank with ASB a whole lot and about a few years ago when I first visited this Downtown branch, I thought some of the people I dealt with just went through the motions to greet the customers like asking how are we doing, but not really listening to our responses. Then fast forward to this past year, due to certain circumstances, I had to work with ASB more that required me to work with various people on the floor a lot more, and I am happy to report that customer service and helpfulness have improved A LOT. Many thanks to Kristine G., Pili E. and others who helped me in getting various accounts changed and set up! Keep up the good work!
