I love this store. Reminds me of the old general stores where you can buy all kinds of things. It's got a cool atmosphere, rustic and friendly! The variety of plants, gardening supplies, etc is awesome. It's a family owned business and everyone is so nice. Prices are very reasonable. If you're in Hilo town by Bayfront area it's only one block away. Check it out!

This is my favorite place in Hilo town to purchase plants. They carry a great selection, including native and endemic Hawaiian plants. I've even picked up a rare red native Hawaiian hibiscus (koki'o 'ula'ula) and native Hawaiian gardenia (nanu/na'u) there. I can't comment on the other garden supplies and tools since I literally only go to Garden Exchange for plants.

Just a note - traveled from the west side to the east to check out the foliage (Which is great btw ), BUT the hours of operation are not correct. I did bring it to the attention of the staff who did not know how to change it on Yelp. They are open on the weekdays until 4:30p NOT 5p. Check it out , selection and staff great , but note the hours !. Parking is difficult , but selection is worth the effort.

These folks have been around long before Home Depot and the kind. They sell the best lawn and garden equipment around along with other related items. They are not cheap price wise but you get what you pay for. If you need work on a lawnmower or other equipment they are the place to go.

This is a Honey of a store. Everything you want for your gardening needs. I was directed to a specific mix for my orchids. They were the only ones in town that had it. Great service and real people to ask questions to. They are knowledgeable. I highly recommend this store.

Tammy, the nursery manager, is fantastic and super helpful. I wanted a particular Avocado variety, and she had no hesitation in contacting the grower to get exactly what I wanted within only a week! Two other retail plant outlets in Hilo were nowhere near as helpful.Carol is super friendly and helpful as well, as is everyone at Garden Exchange.

Very knowledgeable staff and friendly, prices are as good as you can find anywhere and it feels great to keep business in the local community. Service dept can't be beat. I've been skinned by two other places in town! Never will I go anywhere but GX. Thank you guys!

Always helpful with no hassle on equipment side. Had a broken trimmer that needed a new shaft. They found one second hand they had and put it on for a fraction of the price it would cost me to buy new.

I was in the market for a weed eater and the people here were very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. They changed out the factory head for the upgraded one I had purchased. They walked me thru all of the ins and outs of using it. They even filed the warranty online for me so I didn't have to do it. In my opinion, they went above and beyond and this is something you don't get at a regular big box store. On top of that, they have super great deals on plants and we frequently purchase plants from them.

This is a locally owned company that really knows what works and doesn't work on Hawai'i Island because they are from here. They are not at the mercy of corporate overlords on the Continent trying to sell you somethingthat does great in another state. They sell you what you need and have great advice for what you are planning to grow. Their staff are professional and have much Aloha. Support local businesses it really does matter.

Super expensive. No one smiles or seems to care, they just do their job slowly...family owned.
