Maika'i Veterinary Clinic, LLC
111 E Puainako St Suite A-109, HiloWe brought our senior little dog in on an emergency , she had a broken hind leg . Dr. Mina was the ONLY vet that took her in to check her out , NOT even her usual vet would take her @ HPP she stayed with her leg hanging for a couple of days ! While we called every vet to see if they could help her . He was able to save her leg and because my elderly parents could not handle taking care of her and keeping her stable at home Maka'i Vet kept her in their care for a month - till her leg was mostly healed and cast came off . Their staff was wonderful & even tho' over worked into long after hours they were still friendly ! We really appreciated them all! We need more vet Dr's like Dr. Mina on the Big Island . !

Mina Alfred J DVM
111 Puainako St, HiloDr Mina is incredibly rabbit savvy! Ashley and all the rest of his staff are also so gentle and know how to handle rabbits. They're also very communicative and professional. I'm so glad I took my bun here for treatment with his tooth problem. He had been struggling for weeks, but this vet managed to save him and he's now eating again and back to himself. I had pretty much given up hope because he was so sick and thin, but now I'm beyond happy to have my friend back, thanks to Dr Mina. I'd recommend anyone with rabbits to come here for great quality care!

Aloha Veterinary Center
819 Laukapu St, HiloI have had the pleasure of being a client of Malia Lyons for 14 years. While still at her previous employment Dr.Lyons assisted, supported and compassionately cared for my soul dog Guardian. Dr. Lyons was straightforward throughout his entire battle till the day he took his last breath in my arms.
I transferred to Aloha Vet upon hearing Dr. Lyons was moving there. Aloha Vet has shown my family nothing but utmost respect, support and compassion from their receptionists, vet techs, pharmacists, specialist and Veterinarians.
The care they have shown to my babies has been absolutely amazing. I’m grateful for the team at Aloha Vet and the care they shown my babies.
Thank you so very much Aloha Vet for your wonderful services.

Kula Shave Ice
57 Mamo St, HiloGot the Hilo Acai bowl and then made our own shave ice. Service is pretty fast, they have some seating but be ready to share with others. The Acai bowl was super refreshing, filled to the top and produce was excellent. I loved the touch of macademia nuts. I'd recommend the shave ice in local fruit flavors. Both were super refreshing and filling- expect inflated prices though.

Tacos Jalisco lllp
277 Kekuanaoa St, HiloFood is always fresh, delicious, fairly large portions.
I do wish utensils could either be napkin-wrapped or placed vertically (prong side down) instead of just in a large flat container. Always feel a little stressed that someone may have touched what I'm putting in my mouth.
This is a food truck venue so it's hard to fairly judge atmosphere. Parking is a gravel lot which unfortunately often has water ponding. They provide a tarp covered area with picnic tables.
Overall, I still really love the food. Perhaps just bring your own utensils & just carry out your food to a more pleasant setting.

Lehua Restaurant
600 Imiloa Pl, HiloLehua Restaurant, Hilo: Innovative Island Cuisine at Imiloa
Lehua Restaurant, situated within Hilo’s Imiloa Astronomy Center, offers a distinct and elevated dining experience that brilliantly blends modern technique with deep Hawaiian roots. Unlike many traditional Hilo eateries, Lehua is a polished destination, offering a serene atmosphere that is both cozy and intimate, often enhanced by light live music that sets a perfect mood.
The menu, crafted by Chef Keoni Regidor, is the star, rooted in Hawaiian fusion cuisine with a strong commitment to local sourcing. The food is consistently praised for being innovative and well-executed, avoiding the clichés of typical island fare. Diners frequently rave about the expertly prepared seafood, and appetizers like the Calamari Steak and the unique Gyoza Raviolo are often cited as must-try dishes, showcasing the kitchen’s ability to merge global techniques with island ingredients.
The service at Lehua is a major part of its success. Reviews consistently highlight the exceptional and attentive waitstaff, describing the team as genuinely warm and professional—a reflection of true aloha spirit. This high level of service ensures that the overall experience feels upscale and personal, making reservations highly advisable, especially for dinner.
The restaurant's location at the Astronomy Center, while unique, adds convenience. It offers ample and easy parking, a welcome feature compared to navigating Hilo's denser downtown area. Lehua operates for both lunch and dinner, though it has limited lunch service earlier in the week.
In summary, Lehua is a premier dining choice on the Big Island. It’s an ideal spot for those seeking a creative, modern take on Hawaiian cuisine in an attractive setting. While the location is slightly outside the main downtown bustle, the combination of brilliant flavors, high-quality ingredients, and outstanding service makes it a worthwhile destination for a memorable Hilo meal.
