Once in Hilo is a moderately upscale boutique with hand-made silk blouses, art crafts like koa wood pepper mills and wine stoppers, hand made (hilarious) Filthy Soaps, dish towels, jewelry and huge giant tikis. The tikis are for sale for either 9K or 10K (I forget) but they don't ship them for good reason. If you want those tikis, you gotta show up with your crew and have the help of several men to lift those gorgeous hunks of wood. Tiki carving is becoming a lost art. The lady in the store was super nice and friendly, attentive and gave a lot of history for each item I was interested in but I ended up not buying anything due to being on a budget, otherwise I would have bought that cool steampunk-looking pepper grinder for $125.00, or the amazingly awesome Tidepool Koa Wood Table for $2,650.00.

Really beautiful shop if you like collecting antique objects or fashions. I came in and purchased some of the most beautiful kimonos. The staff was extremely friendly and loved telling me more about the products I was buying. When I come back to hilo I will definitely be stopping in here again to see whats new!

On a recent weekend stay-cation to Hilo from Honolulu, we saw this store in Hilo town with very cool and intriguing merch. The store has limited workhours but I successfully ordered three (3) bucket hats online which I subsequently received in the mail. The order was mailed in two (2) shipments dye to a inventory shortage on one item, but I was not charged for extra shipping cost. Very happy with the products & service, please patronize this establishment!!!!

This is one of our favorite stores in Hilo. We discovered a new clothes line with design that looked fresh and bright. There was a young man - Baha - at the store that was actually a graphic designer that created the art for tee shirts and post cards with a colorful art that created the mood and the right impression of this beautiful island. He just started his career but thing he creates full of positive vibes and happiness

My friend and I walked into the boutique because of an amazing design that caught our attention from the outside, a "chaka" like no other in t-shirt form that I've ever seen in Hawaii.Once inside we were delighted by the amazing display of creativity and originality in the designs and the products; not only that but the owner/designer, Baha, was super kind and attentive, his energy was friendly and engaging, and we spent over an hour talking about all kinds of interesting subjects. We left the store with a smile on our faces and happy, with awesome gifts for family and friends, and I personally bought for myself 4 t-shirts because I couldn't make up my mind on which one to get! They were all so creative and just plain awesome! Thank you Baha, may your store thrive as it deserves, and may your designs go around the world. Peace! :)

I am a local and I visited this store for the first time. So I visited Once in Hilo just one since I’ve been in Hilo. However, I was made to feel welcome so I bought this cool hat and three silk scarves and said goodbye to 2021. I’d recommend this here shop to anyone as they have plenty of Aloha along with the highest quality stuff. My new friend also gave me a veterans discount. Mahalo

This is really interesting shop if you need to stop at one place for a shirt, a shark tooth paddle, a giant wooden statue, an old time cashier machine, some hand lotion, a vase, a serving dish, tea, a dress and a postcard to send home that were just in the most eclectic shop. I think the word boutique shop is used because "a whole lotta random but fun stuff" didn't fit on the sign. Go in for a smile, and who knows, maybe that weird thing you've been looking for will be there.

I'm a big fan of this store. They stock a lot of interesting women's clothing made of silk, cotton, and linen. They have beautiful indigo-dyed tops, dresses, and tote bags. I think their clothing items are unique, eco-friendly, and have a modern, architectural style. They also stock home decor and art items. Plus the woman who runs the store has a very cute little dog! Definitely worth checking out while you're in downtown Hilo!
