“This lodging gave us a charming Hawaiian experience, more like a family gathering place than a hotel. It has a nostalgic laid back feel and it was impeccably clean and comfortable. We live on the Big Island and wanted a little getaway, we are so happy to find this place. Aloha lives here, we will return.

Rooms: Clean, well ventilated room with full kitchen, ceiling fan, wall fan and sliding lanai door.
Bed was good. shower was great and had a classic Roman style tub.

Walkability: Close to shops, theater, restaurants, scenic drive, Hilo Bay

Food & drinks: Fresh banana bread, coffee and local fruit offered daily.”

“We’re glad we made the choice to stay at the Inn rather than just doing day use at the falls. The breakfast and service were exceptional, and while the pullout bed for our adult daughter could have been more comfortable, it would be perfect for a small child. The breathtaking views and soothing sounds of the frogs and waterfall created a truly unforgettable experience. This is one of those places that you’re not sure about writing a review for because you almost want to keep it a secret!”

“Little did he know those two days and nights looking out over Reed Bay would become the core memory backdrop for every other Big Island adventure. Stay at SCP for the staff, the waterfront view, locals at play, and the price. Then walk amongst the banyan trees for food and drink, Coconut Island, and Lili`uokalani Park. I spent most of a three day island hop just strolling this area of Hilo and it was magical.”

“Amazing spot! We could spend hours here admiring the surf, weather, and lounging on the deck/pool/hot tub. Highly recommend. Short drive to town. Even a cheap Uber if wanted. Breakfast wasn’t amazing (enjoyed the egg and piece of local fruit), but it was ok - would have liked more local fruit. Thanks for a great stay.”

“my family and I stayed here for 3 nights to attend a funeral... the rooms were perfect and quaint... had everything we needed (a bed, shower, AC, fridge and microwave)... its close to the farmer's market, a few bars and eateries, as well as shopping along Hilo Bay Front and some little hole in the wall places ... then this is a cute little spot for you ...if you're looking for posh... this isn't it...we're looking forward to our next visit there... thank you Neil”

“Rooms are fairly nice, beds are a little small, but a good location by the water and the Japanese garden along with short drive to get to downtown Hilo. Breakfast is okay, they do have occasionally some delicious baked goods, but if you like oatmeal with raisins and brown sugar, then you're good.”

“Double Tree Naniloa IS A MUST STAY AT HILO! I won't stay anywhere else in HILO Ideal location Great Checkin, N Fast, They have two restaurants live Hawaiian Music and Hula The music and entertainment are performed by Locals, Merrie Monarch 2024 on da Flat screen w the beautiful hula on mute OHHH I LOVEIT Very Clean even tho a child had thrown up in the elevator outside the elevator down the halls it was ridiculous and I think they handled it very well Because Everything was cleaned by the time I woke up and everything smelled wonderful! I am super sensitive to smells Lovely atmosphere SAFE AF!!!! Fun, a Valet security Beautiful Grounds and good size hotel I never felt like this was a bad decision to stay here as I did at SCP HILO I knew right away I had made a mistake!!!! The View which SCP has no view it's only one story no elev. or ac and the MOTEL no way is that a hotel The SCP is IN the alley so fxxxckin scary!! SCP complete dump w modified pics and they have an even better review on YELP than Naniloa WTF one is 1 star SCP and Naniloa 5star those are all lies on Yelp I stayed there two nights absolutely disgusting worst place I have ever stayed in my life See the pics Mine aren't photoshopped or filtered actual table top comparisons and Naniloa blows away the competition It's no comparison The SCP Hilo Motel known as Seaside Motel (dump) and Double Tree these are not even of the same class One is a dump motel SCP Hilo scammers too and RUDE AF dont even care if u have a good experience and SCP nickel and dimes their customers Naniloa is a very lovely Island gem so glad I found IT and the staff was EXCELLENT! I really liked my room I got the modern room w an egg tub right in the middle is a bath tub No privacy this room could be for families w young kids Because there is a separate bedroom w a couch and a living room w fridge and microwave Modern room w tub is mostly for couples or single people! I know if my kids were small we would get this room because it has a separate sleeping area see pics I really LOVED MY ROOM SO MUCH and iI am extremely hard to please and they DID Please me... I am never pleased but they were excellent ! Friendly polite attentive to the customer needs they get a 10. I didn't want to go home They have a safe for valuables down near the floor works great and a fridge I didn't like the shower but I LOVED the bath tub probably took four baths lol!!! The pool (could be deeper and hey what about an adult hot tub?) Free GOLF and they are having a LUAU pretty soon that I'm gonna try as well The big island can make the most delicious Kalua Pig making me hungry w the tastes from Big Island which honestly to me tastes more Hawaiian that Oahu I can't describe The liquid smoke the aroma the juicy BITES that scream EAT ME! Double Tree Inn takes me back to the old days of how Hawaii use to be I was beginning to think we have lost our Aloha! Well at Naniloa they got plenty Aloha Mahaloz”

“Our stay at the Wild Ginger Hotel was wonderful. The hotel exudes a quaint charm with its lovely views of the ocean and a touch of jungle ambiance, offering a unique and picturesque setting. While the facilities could benefit from a bit of an overhaul, the overall atmosphere more than makes up for it.

The staff were friendly and helpful, always ready to assist with a smile. The free breakfast was a nice touch, with decent food to start the day off right. Although the rooms lack air conditioning, the ceiling fans provided a comfortable night's sleep. The 3 hotel cats were friendly and keep the geckos at bay.

This is a great hotel to sleep (not a room to lounge in all day) while staying in Hilo.

Rooms: The rooms are a bit small and only offer a bed and a bathroom, but thats all you really need. Rustic, charming, and old world Hawaiian.

Safety: Doors have a door latch and the lobby locks after 10. Never felt unsafe.

Noteworthy details: Windows don't all close so a few insects might accompany you from time to time.”
