Hale Kai Hawaii Suites is an oceanfront lodging gem in Hilo with spectacular views where guests can hear the waves, watch whales, surfers, and cruise ships from their room. The location is perfect, just a short drive to town and a great base for exploring volcanoes and waterfalls. Accommodations include suites and rooms described as comfortable, cozy, private, clean, well-maintained, and spacious, some with separate living areas and small kitchens. A lovely daily breakfast tray is provided with fresh fruit, muffins, yogurt, and boiled eggs. Amenities include a pool and hot tub overlooking the cliffside, though some guests noted the pool was not cleaned daily. The staff and management are consistently praised as friendly, helpful, and responsive, often going to great lengths to address issues. Some challenges include many steps to rooms, making access difficult for those with mobility issues, occasional ants requiring careful food storage, and sporadic issues with internet, TV, or parking. Despite minor drawbacks, guests overwhelmingly found it an amazing, relaxing spot and would definitely stay again, feeling they get their money's worth.
Amazing spot! We could spend hours here admiring the surf, weather, and lounging on the deck/pool/hot tub. Highly recommend. Short drive to town. Even a cheap Uber if wanted. Breakfast wasn’t amazing (enjoyed the egg and piece of local fruit), but it was ok - would have liked more local fruit. Thanks for a great stay.

Unbeatable location and view. Hosts were wonderful—helpful if you wanted them to be, unobtrusive if you wanted to be left alone. Breakfasts were incredible. This may be the best value on the island!

Great location by the sea, nice rooms and large comfortable beds. Great pool with a view over the sea. At night you can hear the waves crashing or the surf on the steep cliff and in the morning you can have breakfast on your own terrace with a sea view. We would have liked to have stayed longer.
