Very disappointing. First, I was not able to get the office to call me back so that I could even make an appointment, requiring me to show up in person to make this happen, which I should have taken as a hint. Then my appointment seemed to go well. It was agreed that they would prepare my taxes. I included the information during that appointment that I have an employee and was likely to add another. Fast forward a month or so and QuickBooks is telling me some sort of state tax form is due. So, before the due date, I inquire about this with the accountant, specifically mentioning payroll. I'm told nothing is due, so I did not investigate further. They say nothing about preparing the next thing due. So I start preparing that tax form myself and discover that QuickBooks was correct about something being due, I have missed the deadline from following their bad advice, and now I owe a fine. When I brought this up with the accountant, I was lied to and told that I never told them I was running payroll. Which I already had before our initial appointment, so nice attempt at CYA. I only worked with one person in this office, but it was a partner, so I wouldn't trust anyone there. Unless you like paying fines related to getting bad advice and then being lied to about it.
