August 2023 by Sylvester Steele Jr
As always, I’m deathly afraid of needles and my anxiety usually gets the best of me and I need trusted family or a friend to go with me. This time, the morning of August 4, 2023, I decided to stop by the lab since I was already in the area for an existing appointment with my doctor. As I entered this office I was promptly greeted by a female attendant who immediately asked if I needed help. I replied I did and she requested my identification and while reviewing my lab request she noticed an error for my last name being misspelled and stated she’d correct it and then directed me to an area where blood is drawn. I explained my fear and asked if she could use the smallest needle available to which she replied she would and told me she would take good care of me. Knowing I’ve heard this before I was skeptical but she looked at me directly with an assured stare, told me to look away, take a deep breath, exhale and relax. I honestly did not feel a thing. I can honestly say that Melody, has absolutely been the most gentle, gracious and confident person that has drawn my blood . I can say that there are less than a hand full of technicians that have ever had that effect on me. Again thank you Melody!

Wow, the Middle-aged Filipino male at the front desk with glasses was very unprofessional and rude. To whoever manages this DLS location at Queens West POB, you need to have him checked. Whether going through something personal, or what have you, doesn't give anyone an excuse to be pilau to your patients. Take pride in your work and act like a healthcare professional. On the other hand, the other worker, Monica, was so sweet. I overheard her talking to another difficult patient who was giving her smart remarks, but she was so patient with him and still respected him with kindness. Being a healthcare professional myself, it's these type of people who truly make a positive difference in patient care.

First time at this DLS at West Oahu. They have free parking and when I went around 10:00 AM there was no line. The staff are very friendly and professional. I was greeted as soon as I walked in. They made a copy of my license and insurance card and asked me the name of my dr. I was then escorted back to have my blood drawn. The location was very clean. The lab tech looked up my orders and talked to me to make sure I was ok while I was having my blood drawn. I was in and out in less than 10 minutes! The only complaint is that she put tape on my site, it hurt when I had to remove the tape. I prefer the cloth wraps that are easy to remove. They have them at POB 1 DLS which is where I usually go to get my blood drawn. This location is very convenient as I moved and live close by.

This is by far my favorite DLS on island. I have been using their services for over 10 years now. The staff is always so friendly, even during the stress of the COVID pandemic. Not only are they friendly, but they are efficient as well. I wish I remembered her name, but the best phlebotomist I ever had is at this location. It's not every day you get a 16g needle stuck in your arm and not feel it! The results turnaround time is almost always faster than they estimate which has come in handy so many times. For me, their hours are actually convenient. I work at 6:30am and they're open at 4am. So a quick stop before work and I'm all set! No traffic, no lines. And yes, they are adhering very nicely to COVID precautions so I do feel safe coming here.

Staff is friendly and efficient. Office is spotless. I'm a difficult stick and they never had trouble. I've gone when it was super busy and they quickly and efficiently got me through there in record time. Everything you want in a lab.

After several attempts at another lab which was a complete fail, I finally got my blood draw! Check in process fast, lots of parking and no wait! My tech was very professional and friendly considering it was very early in the morning. Automatic temp check, hand sanitizer and very clean! Bright, spacious and distanced seating. Asked if I had an arm preference which was a first for me and I loved that she asked! My only concern when I get blood drawn is will they be able to do it in one try? Believe me I've had some bad techs where it would take several pokes and even had the damn needle moved while in my arm! This did not happen and I was so grateful for this! This will be my location from now on. Hours convenient and lots of parking!

Terrible! Went there for a drug screen and the girl named mary accidentally ripped the seal and they didnt have any spares so I had to wait almost another 30 to 45 minutes for a driver to go get the spare from the other facility no apologies or anything just an inconsiderate attitude so ugly!

I had to go get my blood test done per my pcp, and I had to come to this place! Super glad there was a person at that little booth before you drive into the lot, he helped us out on directions to find this place. Definitely would've been lost if he wasn't there. There was construction going on so we parked in the guest parking lot and followed the signs where it said pedestrian walk way and just walk straight and the door is to the left of the diagnostic laboratory sign. Small place but , make sure to have your ID and Insurance cards ready to give to the people in front! The awesome lady that drew my blood was Jo! She asked if I ever had my blood drawn and I have but the last time was so traumatic that I was actually kind of scared to get my blood drawn before coming here. She was great! Took 4 tubes of blood within a minute! Initial pokes always hurt but she did it in one try! So thankful she knew what she was doing ! Thank you so much Jo for making an always unpleasant experience somewhat pleasant !

Never a wait time to be served. But the wait time for the bathroom is cringy. My advice, us the restroom in the hospital by the chapel instead of the one in the lab. Cleaner, quicker, and better ventilation.
