My fiancée and I really enjoyed our self-guided tour of the farm. We were able to join in on a coffee roasting experience and see a pan roasting, we met a nice guide in the farmhouse who talked story about what it was like to grow up as a fourth generation Japanese coffee farmer, and met another kind gentleman who showed us some of the more unique plants on the farm (including bananas growing on the banana tree!). It was really rewarding to hear each of their stories, how they became involved in coffee in Kona, and how that common thread eventually brought them to the same place at the historical society. Also, the donkeys were pretty cute.

We had a wonderful experience. We got to feed 2 donkeys ti leaves & we learned so much about the farm & the Uchida family. The tour guides were friendly & great storytellers. She even showed us how to make rice balls in the working kitchen from almost 100 years ago. We spent about an hour there. I wish we arrived earlier so we would have more time to explore before closing. They have many sweet navel orange trees where we can pick & take home. They are only open Tues & Fri from 10a-2p, I highly recommend stopping by this place.

Worth visiting this farm if you are a coffee lover and history buff. There were people in the farm who walked us thru the ancient times (may be 100 yrs ago) and told us the history of the family who owned this farm and how they used to do chores on this farm. There are many coffee and macadamia trees. We cracked some fresh macadamia nuts and they were so yummy. We were offered some oranges that grow on that property and they were so juicy and sweet. We really had a good time visiting this farm and learning the history of the farm.

Really interesting tour of what it was like for the original Kona coffee farmers. The lady guiding the family’s home was phenomenal and taught us so so much. Great context for anyone visiting the active farms in Kona.

Definitely worth the stop even if it’s a little expensive. Can’t put a price on knowledge and experience though (well I guess the entry fee does but…I digress). Learned a TON about traditional coffee making and growing, Japanese and Hawaiian culture, and even mail order brides. Even learned that the Japanese invented catfishing. Ask the tour guide about “picture brides” and you’ll see what I mean.

The highlight of our trip was the tour of the Living history farm and especially the explanation by Pauline of growing up on a neighboring farm and her actual experience with the family on the tour farm

Note - and educational and learning tour. If you are looking for taste/sample tour this likely not the one for you. If you want to learn about history and background of "real" Kona coffee this is the place. Pauline and Joe who were the interpreters did a great job and have real knowledge and experience they enjoy sharing. Mahalo

If you're looking for something to do to kill time this place is a must! The employees are super informative. We learned so much while we were there. We even got to pick our own oranges and eat them which was delicious!

This was one of our unplanned destinations while visiting the Big Island during New Years and it ended up being one of my favorite places. The grounds were gorgeous, but what capture my attention as the living museum of the Uchida Farm House. It was a step back in time. The docent even prepared a meal in the fully functional ,period, kitchen. She was marvelous. There was a great demonstration of the coffee preparation process too. I will never forget that pointy eared, scene stealing, 4-legged Shizu.

Loved the tour of the house and Pauline's explanation of how families used to live here 100 years ago. Unfortunately, there wasn't a volunteer by the barn but I got here late and ended up spending so much time learning about the house and how people lived here that I wouldn't have had much time to spend learning about the coffee bean processing. Definitely closes at 2pm. While Pauline and I would have kept talking another volunteer made sure that things ended at 2pm. Should I ever make it back here I would love to spend more time here.

Super interesting tour! Everyone we met who worked here told good stories about the family who lived here. I loved the original house and the coffee mill. Learned about coffee harvest and processing too.

We enjoyed our visit to the plantation as we learned so much about how coffee is made and the history of the generations of coffee and its workers. The people running the show were very helpful in teaching us how everything ran smoothly from days gone by.

Good for coffee history buff. The $20 per person entrance fee was not worth it. Wish there was more to see and do but you pretty much learn about roasting and how the family of that farm lived. The volunteers who manage the farm were very nice and knowledgeable.
