I came on here to tell y’all how Dr Bates loves my dogs above all others, because he is so caring and so helpful. However, I’m starting to suspect this is how Dr Bates and his staff treat every patient and pet owner. I cannot express enough how grateful I am to this talented team for the stellar care and expertise they provide. With two senior dogs, my mind always goes to worst case scenario. Dr Bates and his team always ask questions, listen, and provide us the best care and advice. 10/10 recommend this clinic to provide the best care for your furry family members.

Exceptional service. No words really can express our appreciation. Dr Bates performed an after hours emergency GI surgery on our dog and even took her to his home afterward for monitoring. The next morning, he even made her eggs! There are some that have a job and others that have a calling. Dr Bates owns the latter. And because of that, he’s earned our business for life.

We appreciate Dr. Bates and his staff so much. They are always conscientious in their care for our pets. One of our dogs had to have a surgery with a challenging recovery. They tended to him and checked on him consistently and went the extra mile.

Wow. What a difference Dr. Bates makes! His office is clean, cozy and the staff are smiling, friendly, and clearly love their jobs. Dr. Bates took like 25 min listening to all the symptoms of Bentley in trying to diagnose the mystery which required multiple vet visits; he even took a second X-ray on his own dime (a couple days later) just for his own reassurance & called after hours on another occasion as we came to a conclusion and remedy for our boy’s complicated illness. So thankful to have found such a caring vet and such a cheerful office! We are in great hands! ? ?

This review is going to be a long one, but I find it necessary to give this much detail so you can understand the severity of the issue. The reason I took my cat to Dr. Bates was because of all the positive reviews but my experience with him was quite negative. My cat was sneezing up blood since April of this year, and his solution was to get most of his teeth removed. While I agreed that tooth extraction was necessary because he had a few bad ones I didn’t believe that was the cause of the blood since it was coming directly out of his nose and not his mouth. About 6 weeks after extraction when his gums were completely healed the bloody sneezing continued and now his breathing had become extremely labored, to the point it sounded as if he was snoring, constantly. Of course we took him back to Dr. Bates and he searched for a polyps. He was unable to find one, so we were sent home with steroids. The steroid weren’t helping. We took him back a month later because he stopped eating, completely. We took him back and Dr. Bates solution was to look for a polyps, again. I refused, that wasn’t the issue the month before, I want to try something else. I asked him if it was possible if it were a tumor, because a quick google search of all of Salems symptoms pointed to that possibility. He said it was possible but didn’t have the tools to diagnose that. I was furious. How long did he suspect a tumor and didn’t refer me to someone who could get Salem the care he actually needed? He wanted to charge me for the same procedure done just a month ago instead of actually getting my cat help. Even at that point he said “if you’d like a referral I can send one over to Internal Medicine at the UGA Vet hospital.” Great, except my cat was actively starving to death and immediate intervention was needed, it takes weeks to get an appointment at internal medicine. I asked him if he thought Salem needed to go to the ER he said “You can if you want to.” Then I asked him how much he weighed that day vs. the month before when he was there. He lost over 4 pounds, 4 pounds was over a third of his body weight. Once he realized this, after I pointed it out, he then told me I should take him to the ER. When we arrived to the ER Salem had a high fever, which Dr. Bates neglected to tell me or neglected to check. They immediately suspected a tumor and walked us through the process of getting him diagnosed and treated, except the cost was high and recovery rate was low since Salem was so unwell at this point. He only made it 2 more days before he was so weak and lethargic and bleeding out of his nose constantly. We put him down. I don’t know why Dr. Bates didn’t refer us somewhere else sooner. Maybe Salems odds would have been better, maybe not. Either way he was negligent. I’m happy this isn’t most people experience with Dr. Bates but this was mine and I had to share. Shame on you Dr. Bates. Rest In Peace Salem.

Excellent care as always at BATES ANIMAL HOSPITAL. Everyone is compassionate, loving and very friendly.I really can't imagine HEMINGWAY receiving any better or experienced care than with DR. BATES and his wonderful staff. They absolutely turned HEMINGWAY'S horrible injury (both back legs torn meniscus) from an impossible situation to positive experience . My four-legged best buddy is still with me. I believe in my heart that Hemi wouldn't be if it wasn't for DR. BATES & his staff. ? ❤❤

My experience with them was short, but left me uncomfortable. I was told things are “crazy right now” at their clinic which makes me feel as though if there was an emergency, something might go wrong. Sometimes businesses grow faster than expected, so I understand the growing pains. When it comes to being in charge of life and death situation, though, things should be better planned so that things don’t get crazy in the first place. Just my opinion. I’m sure they are very nice, but more than nice is needed when it comes to get care IMHO.

Note that they are currently not open to new clients because (per their receptionist) things are “crazy right now” - but might have opening in 2022. I know they come highly recommended, but my concern isn’t that they are closed to new clients, but that they waited to close to new clients until AFTER things got “crazy”. As a vet, they sometimes face life or death situations. A crazy environment leaves room for mistakes that could have major consequences. I understand business go through growing pains, but I would have been more impressed if they had stopped taking new clients BEFORE things for “crazy.” I would hope any vet we eventually deal with long term will not let things get out of hand like that. I guess you never know. Some places start out great but then they aren’t equipped to handle growth and things start slipping. That’s my concern. Also, my experience in the past has been if one business can’t help, they usually recommend another business. Especially when it comes to helping make sure that a person (or in this case animal) can get the care they need. It seems the receptionist cared more about getting me off the phone because things are “crazy right now” - again, just my person opinion and impressions, it left me feeling uncomfortable with their ability to care for their existing clients at the level they perhaps have in the past, which makes me hesitant to ever bring my pets there, even in the future. Again, in a situation that can result In Life or death, I feel like better advanced planning needs to occur so that things don’t get “crazy” in the first place. Simple enough, they should have closed for new clients sooner, so that the response could be “we aren’t taking on new clients now as we only take on clients when we have the room to do so. We do this so that our existing clients can continue to receive the level of care they deserve. I can however make a recommendation for another get if that would help.” But her tone and what she actually said just have me a negative gut reaction, and i’ve learned to trust my gut over the years.
