Received a notice on my front door this morning with no information filled in so I called and the person that answered said that the officer would call me back when they returned. No call back! $’s being wasted on this and many other government run programs.

I can say that after multiple visits to this shelter, chance after chance being given, I will not be back. I have come in multiple times just to give their animals some attention and every time have felt like I am not wanted. Today, I brought in a stray cat and was talked to and looked at disrespectfully by the older woman who seems to be the head of the shelter. I got the feeling she didn’t want me there and the way she handled the cat I brought in gave me the impression that they don’t care about their animals and will most likely submit it to be put down. I’ve read a couple of other reviews saying they are quick to put down animals that need a little more tlc but are very sweet and could have a chance at adopting back out. This is supposed to be a refuge for animals and I get the vibe they don’t want to deal with any animal or any person coming in. I have also been told previously by one worker that they are not a kill shelter, but when you call to see if they have room for a stray they say it will most likely be put down after a few days if no one has claimed it. I do not recommend bringing any stray into this shelter if you want it to come out, especially if they seem to have anything medically wrong and may need some extra attention. Just don’t do it.

I was looking for a kitty cat to adopt but I ended up adopting from Humane Society for no particular reason except they just had the kitty cat I felt good with.

This is not the review I wanted to write. I wanted to write about how important this shelter is, about the work they're doing to care for animals, and the assistance they give families who are adopting. Instead, I'm gonna talk about how rude and insensitive they were after we adopted our puppy and needed help. We adopted our puppy this week and our family already loves him. Unfortunately, he's fallen ill. As a last resort, we reached out to the shelter. Not to return our puppy; but to ask for vet recommendations. Every single vet we reached out to offered no assistance, said they were overbooked, tried to charge us hundreds of dollars for diagnostic tests or a combination of the three. After the officer rudely told my spouse the shelter was no longer responsible for any care (which isn't even what we asked for), I called back and asked to speak with a care manager or vet staff to get the recommendation we asked for because we want to SAVE our puppy. We didn't get to speak to the person. The officer puts me on a brief hold, returns to the phone, and informs us that we can return the dog since no one will help us.This isn't the response I anticipated.I am believer in #AdoptDontShop.I believe in supporting animal shelters etc etc etc. However, our experience has been forever tainted by the insensitive actions of staff. I really hope our Munchie pulls through.Update:1. Deducted one star because of their response. See below.2. Our dog was misdiagnosed as having Parvo. The shelter says that isn't the case. Thank God. That's the silver lining.3. After taking him to shelter, receiving the misdiagnosis, and filing a complaint, the shelter reached out. They are treating him.

I adopted two kittens in October and I really love them a lot, I just wish they were properly vetted against parasites. I learned my girl has both tapeworm and hookworm and I haven’t been able to get rid of them in months. I’ve taken both her and the other to the vet about them three times, and 2 emergency vet visits because she kicked medicine off of her friend that’s meant to treat the worms and any possible fleas they might have. They do a wonderful job of finding homes for these sweet babies, but please make sure they’ve been treated for parasites before adopting!

Animals seem well taken care of but customer service was so bad from one particular member (older lady) I will never be back. Been looking for a member of the family for awhile so I’ve been here a few times. I want to make sure the animal I get is fit for my family that’s why I’ve yet to adopt. I think the lady recognized me and made it abundantly clear she didn’t want me there. I smiled at her when I walked in and she gave me a disapproving look and grimaced. I was also wanting to volunteer here but absolutely not now! Everyone else was very helpful and sweet.

I personally have not had a experience of the staff just being straight rude to me but, my only issue is that it’s almost impossible to get ahold of anyone through the phone. I’ve called so many times trying to figure out information about strays and they just don’t answer.I know they use to cause I’ve never had this issue until about the past 6 months. It’s to the point my own vet said if I needed information about the animal I adopted from them they would call themselves cause they know how hard it is just to get them to pick up the phone. It’s just very frustrating when they are the only place in the city who handles strays and different things like that. Reading some of these recent reviews are very heartbreaking seeing how many issues people have had with them not informing people about animals medical history or personality traits (truthfully). Worst of all hearing how quick they are to put down an animal. If you don’t truly go to work everyday to love those animals and give the any treatments they need so they can get the best fighting chance at a good life, why are you even employed there? It’s like having a teacher who despises kids it makes no sense lol. Do better guys.

The staff is kind, caring and professional. The animals are very well cared for. They have wonderful dogs and cats for adoption, looking for their forever homes. I recommend this place to others.

I do not even know where to start. They claim they are helping stray animals and law enforcement and blah blah blah. It’s all bs, they don’t do anything. I have NEVER been in an animal shelter so inhumane and disgraceful as this one. I went in to donate food and was talked down to because of my age. I literally went to HELP and got treated like garbage. In all honesty, I don’t care how they treat me, but I do care how they treat the animals there. They are supposed to be loving, helpful, kind, instead they are evil, rotten, and inhumane in every way possible. If you find a stray or need somewhere to give your fur baby to, PLEASE go to any other shelter in the area. I promise you the animals will be happier and healthier somewhere where they are actually taken care of.

I adopted my two fur babies from here and oh my goodness, I have never met cats this sweet and loving before. Blossom (Female torbi) was 8 weeks old when I got her. They told me to feed her wet food but offer dry food on the side and it worked great. Apollo (Male grey) was adopted at 10 weeks. He was big for his age so they told me he only ate dry food and specified to NOT give him wet food because he’s too old for it. This was incorrect. When I brought him home, Apollo’s teeth weren’t developed enough for hard food and I guess the shelter never noticed it since they had so many kittens. He preferred wet food until he got a week or two older and then switched to dry food. The only reason I took a star away in my review is because they specifically said not to give Apollo wet food since he was “too old” and “only ate dry food”. This was clearly not true. I don’t blame the shelter for it, they have so many cats and so few people that it’s hard to keep track. I’m sure the other kitties in his cage enjoyed the dry food but Apollo struggled to chew it. Also, give your cats a bath with some dawn dish soap when you bring them home. Both Apollo and Blossom had a couple fleas from the shelter, which is expected.

Very nice people, very caring. Very understanding. Because of them we are taking a 2nd look on how to better deal with our dogs nipping issue. He doesn't like little kids. They gave us some things to try.

We adopted our lab/pit mix from this shelter March 2020. They gave her all required shots & fixed her, which was very reasonable. She is our 2yr Olds best friend. We love her so much & can't imagine our family without her. TY Lowndes County Shelter.

Wonderful, loving animals needing good loving homes! We've adopted several animals from the shelter with no problems! Highly recommend! You can volunteer and donate another good way to help your community!
