The only good thing I can say is that host was polite, other than that the whole experience was garbage. The food was absolutely disgusting! I mean DISGUSTING! My partner ordered the Philly cheese steak, it barely had any peppers and onions, and the meat looked raw like it had been poached. The bread was not even toasted and fries seemed to have just been taken from the freezer warmed and served. I ordered a chicken quesadilla. Immediately I noticed that the "chicken" looked off. It looked like something out of a can. It tasted even worse, I could not even get through half of the meal. The bathrooms were dirty and on the way to pay our bill my partner slipped on the greasy floor. If all that was not bad enough our bill was over $30! $30 for disgusting food! Save your money and go to a Subway because it will taste better and it will be cheaper and you'll know what you are getting. If I could give this place a negative star, I would.

We just had a quick rest stop from FL to NC when we stopped randomly here for lunch. We tried the buffet and glad we did, the fried chicken tasted very good! Corn on the cob was very good as well..The buffet doesn’t looks the best at first sight, I have to admit, but after eating I was happy and satisfied.

If you leave hungry there's only one person to blame ... yourself. Great staff, friendly atmosphere and great home style cookin'.

The food is not as it once was. The biscuits were not fresh made like they used to be. They looked like canned biscuits.

Altman's food is always great. It is some of Coastal Georgia's cuisine at its best! The shrimp, fish and crab are all local and cooked to perfection. The only improvement I could suggest in that department would be about the scallops. They are very small and not all that tender... much like the cheap ones that you could buy at the grocery store. But that is probably due to the season. Otherwise, the food was topnotch as usual. You have to love the Coastal Georgia history of this place to enjoy the dated atmosphere. But it is very clean, casual and friendly... a simple, family oriented establishment. I will also note that it is under new ownership... so far, so good!

We arrived early for lunch. Ribs were overcooked or leftover from Sun. Fried chicken was fresh and hot, meatloaf overcooked, cream corn was soured. Waitress came to table one time - never returned to ask if we want a refill on drinks or to remove dishes from table. Hadn't been in a long time but will never go

I am from this area, so my family and I frequent this restaurant. We live in midway so it's about a 20 min commute that we make often because that's how much we enjoy the food. Our personal favorite is the fried shrimp & scallop plate with fries. Well that changed today. We ordered our usual but unfortunately instead of the big juicy sea scallops were used to it was a handful of over cooked bay scallops which are no bigger than the size of a penny. The fries were overcooked and there were hard pieces attached to the scallops and shrimp. It was extremely disappointing and to be frank disgusting. I was told Altmans was under new management so I'm not sure if this is what we have to look forward to or if this was just a bad visit but after spending 30.00 on a plate of seafood that I couldn't even finish I can't say when I'll be back

My family and I were traveling through Townsend tonight and decided to stop and try this place. At first everything seemed fine so we sat down with our plates of food and as we began to eat I saw 4 roaches crawling up the wall behind the buffet counter. I called a waitress over and showed her and she proceeded to tell me that they have a major infestation. Needless to say we left right then. To top it off on the way out my daughter noticed on the health inspection it also noted an issue with roaches.

This place is absolutely wonderful. All the servers were nice and helpful despite the restaurant being very busy with great recommendations. We had the hush puppies (amazing, try them with the house pickled garlic vinegar at the table) the crab cake sandwich, and the hwy 17. The crab cake was incredible and absolutely huge, well spiced with no filler and tender crab meat. It comes with a spicy remoulade and a big fluffy bun and it's fantastic. The hwy 17 is a burger on toast and I loved it. It's like a lighter patty melt, with fresh lettuce and tomato. Get the battered fries for sure: hand cut, double fried, very lightly seasoned. You can enjoy a saltier entree and not feel like the fries are too much. They also have a board up where you can purchase a meal for someone in advance who can't afford to pay for their meal. This is the thing that made our experience different: it wasn't just that it was a great meal (it was) but that Altman's is invested in their own community. Do yourself a favor and visit.

I was looking for food along the highway. Thought it's really odd that this restaurant has sucth high rating on Google Maps. Well, it's well deserved. The service is not great but the food is excellent. If you're in the mood for some fried catfish and chicken, this is the place to get them. The corn wasn't overcooked, and the squash side was perfectly sauteed. Not a healthy place to eat at often but definitely worth getting off the highway for.Either stay for the plentiful buffet, or grab a box to go for $13.

We stopped here for lunch while traveling through the area. Usually these small town cafes are really good. Not this one. We don't do buffets, so I chose the club sandwich with fries and my wife chose the 3 piece chicken strips with fries. The fries were not done and extremely soggy. My club was probably the worst excuse for a club sandwich that I've ever gotten. My wife's chicken wasn't too bad, but not great either. My wife tried a cup of the crab stew, which was mediocre at best. We won't return here.
