Just saw a video of the Chief of Police interacting with a gentleman filming in a US Post office. He showed the chief poster 7 (Federal Regulations), which allows him to film there. The Chief ignored the Regulations and forced him to leave under threat of arrest. He is dumber than 2 boards glued together with stupid. After forcing the gentleman to leave, he followed him and unlawfully demanded his ID, using the excuse that he was wandering around buildings... He is a tyrant and idiot in one package. He is a liability to your city and needs immediate training in the law and how to interact with citizens who aren'tbreaking the law. He is a pitiful excuse of a public law enforcement officer.

We just moved to Sparta from Cookeville after 20 years living in Washington DC. Well, we feel like we found "heaven". Sparta is a wonderful small town, 15 minutes from Cookeville and an hour or so from the 3 large cities in TN. Location could not be better. Beautiful lakes, beautiful rivers, world class kayaking (I mean Eric Jackson lives in Sparta) ,wonderful state parks nearby. Great people who care about their town and care about each other. Lots of new restaurants coming in but some terrific ones already here (love the Coffee Collective and a new pizza restaurant on the square that is terrific) I hear a Greek restaurant is coming in (and more). Anything you need can be found at Walmart or Walgreens or a short side trip to Cookeville if needed. Great Chamber of Commerce committed to the City. You can not imagine the history in this town (100 houses on the National HIstoric Register) or the quality of the crafts or the music to add the the wonderful natural treasures in this area. Good local airport- private jets can land but in an hour you are at Nashville's international airport. WHY you would need to travel if you have all this, I am not sure. But it would be easy access.

Liberty Square is quite charming and worth a stop if you're passing through. We spent the day hiking at some of the nearby state parks and drove through Sparta on our way to Cookeville. We walked Liberty Square (which had a vintage car show going on) and grabbed a coffee at a great coffeeshop on the square. Classic small town America feel to the town square for sure!

In memory of Sam and Lorene This was the hometown of my grandparents and where my father grew up. I've visited many times as I grew up, and now that they are gone and their house is sold, I'll likely never return. Grandpa worked a bank that's long been torn down.I think first Tennessee. He lobbied congress for the construction of highway 111 only to have it take his own house. It took many years for him to get a fair settlement. They moved to winding lane just past the calfkiller river near the school that was built ten or fifteen years ago. They took care of the maintenance of the Andrew Jackson rock house for many years. They also started out in a rock house of their own in the forties when he returned from the war as an air force sargeant. I couldn't tell you where it is but they've showed it to me and to my knowledge is still standing. They attended the Methodist church that has long been torn down. The stained glass Windows were salvaged to use inside the house to hang in a window. Those are probably all that remains of that beautiful church. Grandma was the daughter of a grocery store owner during the rough times of the depression. They saw their town really grow and the concept of the big box stores was very foreign. Her daddy provided to people as they needed it and they would pay as they were able. Those times are all but forgotten. I also saw the town grow as well. I remember the frequent drive to cookeville for dinner. As Sparta grew, that became less necessary. I especially want to thank life care for the wonderful care they provided her when she needed it. I will always miss the mountains and the rivers, the fishing spots, the Sparta house I grew up in and most especially, my grandparents.

5 stars simply because it's my hometown! A tight nit, simple, rural community. Everyone is friendly and eager to help. There is a great deal of history, including civil war, home of Lester Flatt and the Rock House. Surrounded by numerous state parks with dozens of water falls. Sparta is also geographically located in the middle of Chattanooga, Knoxville and Nashville. Also, came in second to Nashville when the vote for the state capital went down!
