My 2020 federal return was prepared incorrectly. Instead of using the standard deduction as instructed, itemized amounts that were not mine, were instead used, resulting in a refund to me. I didn't catch the error until after the return was filed. I had an amended return prepared elsewhere and I paid the refunded amount plus the corrected tax owed.

Sadly I had the same experience as David. Jim was my accountant for years and he was amazing. His passing was such sad news on a personal level. I tried to continue working with Jessica since she had been working with Jim. My experience was almost the same as David's review. There were things done without my permission. Phone calls never returned. Phone numbers constantly changing as well as stories that constantly changed. It was a nightmare. I am still working to straighten out the mess she made. I hate to hear of others having the same experience however at least I realize I was not alone in my confusion over sorting out the lies. Good luck to everyone who thought the world of Jim.

I have been using Monarch for the last 8 years. Jessica has always maximized my returns and charges a fair fee for doing my taxes. I would highly recommend anyone use her company for their tax needs.

I have used this firm for several years. The previous owner, Jim Thigpen, was a top notch accountant. Sadly he passed away a few years ago. The woman who took over the practice is Jessica Mertens. This year working with her on my taxes has been a nightmare. I have honestly never had an encounter with anyone like this in my life. Truly bizarre. She repeatedly lied to me, did not return phone calls or emails, missed the filing deadline, and filed things with the IRS without my knowledge or permission. She is dangerous and should not be allowed to handle anyone's money or finances. I am in the process of filing complaints with the State and Federal authorities. Thank God Jim isn't alive to see what this woman is doing to his reputation.

I have used this accounting firm very satisfactorily for 3-4 years now. Recently, I have called a dozen times in three weeks leaving messages that I need a return call for some concerns about my taxes with no results. I am now getting concerned there is something wrong with my CPA! Still waiting for a call back over a month now!
