I engaged Meghan, the owner of Black Dog Interiors for design work on my kitchen and other areas of my house. If I could leave no stars I would. She was terrible at communicating and the design work she presented only in photos only after one in person meeting was inadequate for any decision making. I paid her a large retainer and once I terminated the engagement (which took forever to accomplish due to her poor communications), she retained 1/2 the retainer for work she claimed to have done. I don’t have anything to show for the $ I paid. Any potential clients beware!

I engaged Meghan from Black Dog Interiors to help with design selections for new kitchen and other areas of my house. From the beginning of the engagement, the communication was very frustrating. Meghan was very difficult to contact and failed to provide timely responses. At first, she seemed enthusiastic, but I quickly learned her behavior reflected an extremely chaotic work style. She was extremely disorganized. I paid a substantial retainer and did not got value for the amount paid. After multiple attempts to try to work with her I gave up due to her lack of responsiveness and the output I received. She provided only google photos after one in person meeting which took forever to receive and were difficult to review and base design decisions on. Even terminating the contract was frustrating due to her delay in communicating with me. This is the first review of this nature I have made but thought it important for other potential clients to understand the difficulty in dealing with Meghan and Black Dog Interiors. She eventually returned 1/2 of my retainer and claimed she put in hours to justify keeping 1/2. She provided only a general description on the hours she claims to have put into my project so I have no way to confirm, but based on the output, I most certainly did not receive value of that amount. I am extremely disappointed with the amount of time I have devoted and with the utter lack of professionalism on dealing with Meghan.

My wife (who NEVER felt compelled to review a business, until now) and I cannot say enough good things about Black Dog Interiors and, especially, Cathy Luby. We were captivated by wall art we saw in the home of a relative and contacted Black Dog to order similar pieces for our home. Cathy was our point of contact. She was unbelievably attentive, advising us on every imaginable nuance, catching a few issues (wall dimensions, etc) that we would have missed on our own, and staying in regular touch with us through the process, from ordering through shipment and delivery. Shipping turned out to be complicated, and Cathy managed everything meticulously, keeping us informed and helping with workarounds where required. I say this knowing some might read it as hype; she treated us like family, not mere customers. No matter where you live, if you're looking for help with interior design, Black Dog should be your first and last call. (And hope you're lucky enough to have Cathy helping you!)

While I appreciate Meghan's design eye and won't knock that, the business is very poorly run and I highly recommend you have a written contract before engaging with them. 3 months into a design project and after all furniture was approved and ordered, was the FIRST TIME Meghan ever brought up any hourly design fees. She sent me an invoice for $5500 - about the same amount as the furniture I was ordering from her. There was no prior discussion, no contract - not even a text exchange about ANY fees let alone a $100 hourly fee, of which she was "41 hours in".... until the project was over.I have attempted to negotiate in good faith with the owners- Meghan and Cathy- over the last 6 weeks- offering her $2k design fee- a 33.5% markup on the furniture I purchased from her, of which she refused and then held my furniture hostage. Credit card charges are now in dispute and all orders being cancelled... what has now become a 4+ month project was just a complete waste of time for both of us. The lack of common sense in having a conversation, contract and deposit if you are expecting to be paid a designer fee of any amount is actually shocking.Great designer, but an unprofessional and horribly run business.

Meghan Luby is a very talented and creative interior designer, and I've enjoyed my ongoing experience with her and her team at Black Dog Interiors. I started with a blank slate - a new loft - and with her help it has been transformed into a tastefully chic space in harmony with the architectural style and surrounding natural environment. My decision to give four rather than five stars is solely due to a few early communication problems that have since been worked out. I encourage you to meet with Meghan to find out for yourself how she can help you modernize or otherwise improve your home!

Cathy of Black Dog Interiors is fantastic. I've been in twice now for small items and each time she has been most helpful. I have minimalist leanings and try to be very intentional with my purchases. Based on my 2 visits, I get the distinct feeling that Cathy genuinely cares about her customers and wants you to be happy no matter how big or small your purchase.

After dragging my feet on a much needed room renovation, I decided to work with Meghan at Black Dog Interiors. Her ideas for the space were fresh and captured the spirit of our family. She worked with our budget, offering a variety of options for each decision, and incorporated what we already had - keepsakes from our world travels and family heirlooms - along with new pieces. During the process, I couldn't envision how it would ever come together, but Meghan has a gift. Now, we have a fabulous and functional space that's our favorite place to be!

My husband & I stopped in to Black Dog Interior Design in December to just look around and were immediately taken by the artistic accents & stylish room settings of this new store. Everyone was so helpful! We ended up purchasing an accent table for our daughter's new home—she loved the warm copper detail of that table! We will definitely return as they are constantly adding and changing their showroom pieces. Meghan gave us some very helpful design tips too! Thanks to all at Black Dog Interior Design!

We worked with Meghan of Black Dog Interiors to add a few new items (furniture and rugs) to our home. She did a wonderful job of getting to know our style and even came to our home to get a better idea of the space the new items would go in. She sent us several options to consider and had them delivered directly to our home. She made everything so easy for us, and we love the new items she helped us to find.
