In March of 2020, I was sent here at my own request to seek help for my mental health. I went voluntarily but then learned that my wife had committed suicide while I was gone. I was distraught and told the staff. My cats were left alone without food or water for 3 days because they wouldn’t let me leave. When I heard my wife’s voicemail stating that she had swallowed a bunch of prescription medication I thrashed around the office, screaming and crying. A staff member was sitting right there nonchalantly eating a KFC chicken pot pie. I will never forget it.No matter how I pleaded they kept saying that they need to “focus on me”. How can I focus on me if I know my pets are starving? They wanted to keep me for a total of 7 days even when I told them my pets would be dead when I came back. They paid me no mind. The only one who cared was Hope. If it wasn’t for her I don’t know how I would have gotten through my time there.Between the staff there and the Atlanta police department that allowed my wife’s body to lay in our bed decomposing for a day and a half while my animals starved for 3 days….I have never been the same. The callous attitudes toward my desperate pleas were so cruelly ignored. I think they thought I was crazy or lying even though I played the voicemail. My wife is dead, my cats were starving but they survived. The discrimination and stigma that is held about mental health, even by the ones who work in the field, has made my mental health much much worse. It is heartbreaking that people who claim to want to help could not see me as human.I am still scarred from this experience nearly 4 years later.

This place is terrible. Do not send your loved ones here. Some of the staff are disrespectful and rude and bottom line ratchet.I understand working with mental health can be tough, but some of these people working here should honestly work at a prison based on how they treat the patients and their families. When you try to talk to someone in charge like the director they don’t bother to return calls. This place should be shut down.

I will always recommend Pinewoods to anyone, even though I had one bad experience, but overall, I was pleased with my son 15 days stay. The staff are overworked, but to my knowledge they are doing the best they can, there are one or two spoil apples but they are the minority.I must compliment the Case Manager Mr Prince for his hard work.Lastly, I will not forget to mention the bad experienceTwo weeks after my son was discharged, he went into a crisis, so I took him back to Pinewoods, I ran into the building with my son, and told the front desk person that my son is in a crisis, meanwhile my car was running so after letting her know the problem, I left and parked my car, as I was about to get out of my car, my phone rang, and the person said, "this is Candace and that I must come back and get my son" because they don't run a DAYCARE, she then hang up the phone.I called back and spoke with nurse Amy, who was very professional, she listened and told me that she will let Candace know, that he was a patient two weeks ago.I don't know if Candace is a NP or a Nurse, but nevertheless her behavior was unacceptable.I don't know who is Ms Candace boss, but whoever is her boss, please disapline her, she is a disgrace to PinewoodsI have never, ever, felt so humiliated, that a professional staff could use such words..Thank you Nurse Amy for listening and thanks to the staff that made my son stay comfortable. Thanks Mr Prince, you are the best!

I was having a breakdown trying to talk to my daughter and the nurse said i couldn't talk to her, didn't care that I was mentally unstable and told her my daughter is my emotional support and the reason I'm alive. I was told my suicidal thoughts didn't matter, do it and then hung up on. That nurse told me to kill myself.

I went there for help and this is about the worst place you can be.. even me volunteering to go there I was afraid they were going to keep me for 5-7 days.. the security guard there is completely rude and treats patients horribly.. all the staff there laugh about with each other but speak to patients like they hate them they are very rude to patients and I did not feel safe there one bit..

the staff is mean and nasty and the patients are treated like animals it’s more like a 1930s horror movie. there is no mental health support and there’s not even a doctor! it’s only nurses. that place was a nightmare

Inquiring about a loved one. Receptionist I spoke to was incredibly rude. It's bad enough your loved one is having mental health issues but a staff member who is rude and seemingly suppose to care for the patient doesn't sit well with me.

My parents both need help, both have mental disorders and addiction. This is the only free facility we can find to help them and they had to go in separately before being separated for a year at a rehab, and this man came out while they were saying goodbye and made it a big deal that they were telling each other goodbye and made them make a decision to leave (without help which is their job so you think they'd care more about people) or come in immediately. He was being rude, inconsiderate, and pushy as if he didn't even care about people in these positions in their life and I understand some policies but he was almost completely uncaring for the situation. If you don't care about people don't have a job in the business of helping people. He really acted like an emotionless monster and it's absurd that people could act that way
