As a military member, we have done business with many banks across the country. This is hands down the WORST bank we have ever dealt with. We got our recent mortgage through Ameris Bank, since it was our builder's preferred lender, thinking it would make for a simpler, smoother process. We could not have been more wrong. I will not detail ALL the problems we have had with them, but the list is ridiculously lengthy. However, our current issue is the proverbial straw that has broken the camel's back. My husband is a disabled vet and is 100% tax exempt. He has a letter from the state confirming he is 100% exempt. However, Ameris Bank has said that the designation from the state is not good enough. They need "something" from the county, and they said they were not able to get it, so they asked us if we could go to the county office and get it. With other homes we purchased in the past, the bank has always just needed the designation from the state, so we were not exactly sure what they needed from the county. However, when we asked our Ameris Bank rep to tell us exactly what they need from the county she was unable to articulate what they need. Soooo ... basically they are telling us that the official documentation they received from the state is not sufficient to validate my husbands tax exempt status; they need "something" from the county but they don't know exactly what they need but maybe we can figure it out ???? It's ludicrous. The level of incompetence at this bank, in regards to dealing with VA issues and resolving other basic mortgage issues, is off the charts, imo. If you are a military member, I warn you...RUN from this bank!

Best customer service and communication of any bank I’ve ever done business with. Edie, Matt, and Courtney are top notch. They always take the time to answer my questions and take care of my issues. I highly recommend this bank.

These old ladies that work here acted scared of my daughter and I. We where parked in the parking lot for about five minutes and they kept watching us out the window and acting scared. It was so weird. I pulled over to use my phone and was treated like a terrorist.
