We have been bringing our dogs here for years but when it was time for my dog Apollo to pass, they treated us and our pup with INCREDIBLE care and love. I cannot thank Dr. Elllington enough for the wonderful, caring treatment of Apollo and us. She used her lunch break to care for Apollo and us in his final minutes on our planet and gave us peace and understanding in this very difficult time.

Independent local vet you can trust! We took our two cats in for a check up and Dr. Ellington blew us away with her professionalism, empathy, compassion, and clear communication. She spent time with our pets to get to know them (and us). We feel extremely grateful to have her as our vet. This clinic is not corporate owned, and therefore they are not making decisions based on maximizing expensive treatments for profit. They truly care about what’s best for your pet and your situation. Can’t recommend more highly. We will be coming back here as our main vet without a doubt.

Used to be a great place. Now every time I call to make appointmentsfor my 8 fur kids there is nothing available. New stuff that is totally different. In May I ask the front desk lady if I could make appointments for the yearly shots and the answer was we are booked, doctor had just told me they were open and happy to help my 8 fur bbs. I walked out of there dissatisfied, dissapointed, down because the lady was not very nice either. I called in July again for their shots, still none are available, 2 weeks ago I call is frustrating to get the same lady answering the phone with not very nice attitude. Today was the last call, I guess I'm done with the best clinic I knew love the animals and nicest people I had meet. I also miss the older gentlemen that used to greet people at the parking lot...thank you sir for being so patient.

I am sad to write this review as I have been taking my animals to Dearborn for decades, but the office manager verbally abused me. I believe her name is Anna-- I can't be sure because she started yelling at me first before briefly pausing to introduce herself before continuing her tirade. I am not exaggerating. I felt like I was in first grade. She humiliated me in front of the entire staff and the people in the waiting room. Yes, I was asking for a payment arrangement for my puppy who was receiving her first shots and would be returning in 3 weeks for another round of vaccines. I have made payment arrangements at Dearborn several times. I have even been told by the staff they were happy to be able to afford clients arrangements because it was a great benefit of an independently owned clinic. I have always, always paid them promptly. I understand policies change, but this issue could have been handled with a respectful conversation in private. Instead, the office manager chose a public scathing.
I have great respect for Dr. Ellington and Dr. Ceelie-- they have helped me through some very difficult challenges. However, I will no longer go to Dearborn specifically because of the abusive staff, especially the office manager. It's a great loss for me, my pets, and the local Decatur community.

I hate to have to write this review, but I think it’s important. I have been taking my dog to Dearborn for the past several years. I have always liked their service. I went in for a routine exam for his rabies shot which I do every year. It was time for his distemper, but since he has a vaccine reaction, I had to get the distemper two weeks after his rabies shot. I was assured that I would only be paying for the distemper shot the next time I came. So two weeks after the rabies shot, I went for his distemper shot. When I called to make that appointment, they assured me that I would only be charged for the distemper shot because I had already had my annual visit two weeks prior and we were just separating shots. When I went to check out after getting the distemper shot (which would have been about $30) they had charged me for an additional visit. The total was $84! I was never told that I was going to be charged for a visit, if I had I would not have brought him in. I distinctly asked when booking if i would be charged the visit fee and i was told no. We will be looking for another Vet. I hate to say that because prior to this I have had a good experience here but I just think it’s shady to tell somebody that it’s a certain price and then change it when you check out. Total bait and switch!!!! That’s really a lot of money that I didn’t budget for and i feel so taken advantage of. I even emailed the practice manager and they never responded. As a business, they should consider that if they lose patients they won’t exist. As they continue to bait and switch people, they will be left with zero business when their loyal clients have left.

Dearborn is the only place I’ll take my animals! They are so kind, generous and you can tell they LOVE animals! From
our very first visit until now, they have been the experts I trust. My dog and cat have been going to them for four years for all of their routine or sick visits. And now they are walking me through the last (hopefully) years of my dogs life. Since my girl has been diagnosed by Dr. Ellington with cancer, she has been more than generous with her time and care of Sasha. She walked me through all the treatment options and compassionately allowed me to make the best decision for my baby. Now she walks me through every new symptom and medicine to try to help Sasha have the best quality of life. I am beyond great to the whole clinic staff! They are constantly busy and constantly kind and caring. It’s really a magical place.

Where should I start. I paid them in cash, got home, checked a previous bill and saw they had double billed me $100. I called and very calmly explained to them what they had done and told them I'd be right back, lived 15 mins away, and get my 100 dollar bill. Person on phone became hostile and rude told me no cash refunds, have to wait 6-8 weeks for a check. Long story short, I got my 100 back 15 mins later. Check your invoices, they scamming folks.
All this is after they told me my 10 year old dog who had a seizure had a brain tumor and would be dead in 6 months. This diagnosis was made as she twirled her hair in her fingers and gazed into space. No bloodwork, no flashlights in eyes, no tests period. Then she gave him his vaccines which I learned later you're not supposed to give vaccines to a sick dog.
Approx 1 month after tumor diagnosis I woke up and George couldn't get up, had no control of his back legs. I Dr googled and learned that older dogs can get a build up of calcium at the base of their spine and pinch a nerve paralyzing the back legs. Said time is of the essence, could cause perm paralysis if not treated soon. So I hurried up and took George up there, explained the problem, they told me it was because of his brain tumor, he'd have no controls over his bowels and I should consider putting him down. I told them what I had learned that morning, they didn't want to listen, I asked if the calcium build up would show on an xray, they said yes, I paid for xray and sure enough it was a calcium build up. A shot and he was moving around later that day.
I never did believe the tumor diagnosis, did my own research and asked them to do bloodwork on his thyroid. They did and told me one number was low but not enough to be concerned about. I took George to a second vet, told him the symptoms, showed him dearborn results, which I paid a few hundred bucks for, he told me he could do a more thorough test which he did. He called me 2 days later, said Georges thyroid is all out of whack. He prescribed me meds that cost $12 a month and poof! had a seizure free, healthy dog again.
I had to diagnose his thyroid problem. I had to diagnose the calcium build up at the base of his spine temporarily paralyzing his hind legs. dearborn's cheap for a reason. You get what you pay for. Trust me. They'll kill your pet like that almost did with mine or tell you to put your pet down like they did with mine. Evidently the original owner was great and build up a good business and solid reputation. When she sold it, the place went down the drain. If you want what's best for your pet, stay far away from dearborn. I kid you not. If you go there, check your invoices. Something/someone shady's going on

Long story short, if you're late to an appointment at Dearborn Animal Hospital, they'll yell at you and kick you out, regardless of your pet's urgent needs or your status as an existing client (many other reviews on Google report similar experiences). We've never been treated this way by any other vet, and we always have at least three pets at a time. Needless to say, we're never going back to Dearborn Animal Hospital.
Here's what happened: Our cat stopped eating and drinking on Thursday night. As existing clients, we called Dearborn on Saturday for an emergency appointment. They had no availability and referred us to emergency clinics. We secured an appointment on Sunday at the Pet Falk clinic in Sandy Springs, where they stabilized our cat with IV fluids but couldn't draw blood due to a lack of experience and tools for handling a scared cat although he was in such a weak condition. So, we had to rely on Dearborn, our primary vet, for the blood test and any other diagnostics.
On Monday morning, we called Dearborn around 9 AM. No one answered until 9:15, when a kind lady offered us a 9:30 appointment, the only one available that day, so we rushed but arrived about 15 minutes late.
Upon arrival, the older lady at the front desk identified us and asked us to wait. After about 10 minutes, she returned back to harshly scold us for being late. She said Dr. Linda Ellington refused to see us. When I expressed surprise, another employee joined in with the same hostile demeanor, asking us to leave without offering any solution.
Their lack of empathy for our cat was palpable. I quickly gave up and asked to use the waiting area to call other clinics. As I started dialing, another employee yelled from across the room to reiterate the refusal! I replied that I was looking for another place to take my cat.
Luckily, I found a same-day appointment with another vet's clinic and our cat received competent and caring treatment there and started eating and drinking again the next day.
Dr. Linda Ellington, I may never understand your issue, but you and Dearborn Animal Hospital are not the only vet in the area. I'm grateful my cat was spared from your clinic, and we spent our money where he was treated with care and respect. Thank you for revealing your true colors early enough.

I'm writing this review with a heavy heart and a sense of extreme disappointment. After years of trusting this establishment with my pets, I've recently had several unpleasant experiences with Dr. Linda Ellington. Unfortunately, her behavior has been consistently condescending and dismissive of patients' concerns.
Recently, I brought my pet to the clinic four times for the same issue, only to be met with gaslighting and condescending remarks from Dr. Ellington. Despite my concerns and observations, she repeatedly told me that my pet was simply "dramatic" and brushed off my concerns. I was desperate for help, as my pet had lost interest in eating, walking, and even her favorite activity - riding in the car. The vet techs were always concerned and empathetic, but Dr. Ellington's attitude was unhelpful.
As I reflect on these experiences, I'm left wondering if Dr. Ellington's behavior is influenced by my race or my pet's breed. Unfortunately, I've spoken to several minority clients from my alma mater who have shared similar experiences with Dr. Ellington - curt, passive-aggressive responses that made them feel unheard and dismissed.
It's disheartening to see a veterinarian who seems more focused on their own biases than providing quality care to innocent animals. I've wasted hundreds of dollars on unnecessary visits and treatments, and it's a shame that it took a change of veterinarians for me to receive a proper diagnosis.
My advice to Dr. Ellington is to take empathy and sensitivity training to better understand the impact of her behavior on minority patients and their pets. As a veterinarian, you have a unique opportunity to serve and care for animals, not discriminate against them based on their breed or their owners' race.
I hope that this review will serve as a wake-up call for Dr. Ellington to re-examine her approach to patient care and provide a more inclusive and compassionate environment for all patients.
