This is top notch BBQ. You want great food, good prices, with no fancy or frill? This is your spot. The helpings are big and the food is worth singing about.

By far the absolute best BBQ and Brunswick stew I've ever had the pleasure of eating!! Very cool restaurant and laid back atmosphere like taking a step back in time. The bar scenes in "Sweet Home Alabama" were filmed here, so that's a cool little movie fact for ya. If you have a chance, I highly recommend dropping for amazing food, and friendly staff.

I wish I had read the reviews before going but I didn’t. Heavy’s BBQ is a good 45 minute drive for us and since moving to this part of Georgia a couple of years ago, we have driven by it a few times. It’s always been closed. Since I have always enjoyed the movie Sweet Home Alabama, I found it so cool to discover that Heavy’s BBQ was actually the setting for Stella’s Roadhouse. I guess you could say my reason for wanting to go was more about the movie. It was one of those “little bucket list” adventures. So, my husband and I and another couple headed there for Friday night supper. At this point, I will say that every one star review I have read today is the absolute truth. Our experience there matched every single review from the worst food to the pure dirtiness of the whole location. We were only offered three options, community loaf bread was on each table, we were the only people there (6:00 on a Friday night), nasty bbq sauce container, overall grime, food was terrible, etc. We threw away most of our food. As many have questioned: how can the health department continue to allow this place to operate publicly? We ordered a pork plate and a rib plate. Our friends ordered the same thing. One plate of ribs was so charred and burned there was not much meat. The Brunswick stew was indescribable. It was so bad and the texture was so gross that there are no words. The slaw was equally bad. The pork was very wet and almost slimy. In the end I am so thankful that we did not get sick. Overall, it’s a shame that the conditions of the restaurant were not good. It has such a great opportunity to be a desirable destination in an otherwise very rural area. Whatever is being cooked and served up there is not acceptable. Please don’t be misled by the reviews that promote it. Something is definitely “off” about the whole place. We will never go back.

We stopped for lunch on our way home from Atlanta because my husband loves BBQ and I love the movie Sweet Home Alabama. I hate to say how disappointed we both were along with our 3 sons.Three of us wanted cheeseburgers but were rudely informed by the woman taking orders that they take too long to cook. So we ordered three hotdogs and two BBQ rib plates. The hotdogs were not terrible. The sweet tea was delicious! My two youngest sons ordered Pepsi and were given bottles from the dirty fridge and they were both outdated and flat and went in the trash. My oldest son and husband said the BBQ ribs were okay but the Brunswick stew that came as a side was disgusting. It looked like vomit.I’m glad we saw where the movie was filmed but we should have skipped eating here. We spent $30.00 on snacks for the kids after leaving the restaurant at the gas station because they were still hungry.

What in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre kind of establishment is this. Not no but HELL no!! Do NOT go here!!! I felt like I was about to get murdered thrown in the oven! The BBQ pork was OK but the slaw was full of pickles and nasty and the Brunswick Stew tasted like roadkill. There was NO one here eating but me and my boyfriend... It was creepy and nasty ? Tea was good. You only get 3 options to eat.

Worst bbq plate ever. No smoke flavor, dry ribs with what tasted like katsup on them, horrid stew, and pursed-lip service. Honestly the dog was the only charming aspect of our stop. What a disappointment. That meat never saw a flame. Probably cooked in an ez-bake oven. Yuk. Even the dog wouldn't eat it. Despite the couple before us who ordered hamburgers to go, we were told we could only order three items from the menu. Must be a different menu for friends and locals. We threw our full plates in the trash and motored on.

I rarely give 5*'s, this one hits on all eight cylinders!Lydia was just a gem, sweet gracious and welcoming. I told her I'd give it a bad review so nobody would common overpopulate the place and I wouldn't be able to get a seat. But a lot of family effort goes into producing quality barbecue they get an A+.BBQ plate ?. Brunswick stew with the proper taste, and a special relish infused coleslaw to die for.We live on the other side of the river but will make the 80 min drive from now on every so often.? ? ?

Going to this restaurant is like stepping back in time. There are all kinds of antique items to look at everywhere, inside and outside. The food was delicious. They have barbecue and burgers. The service was great. We will definitely be going back again. Oh by the way, for all you movie buffs, parts of Sweet Home Alabama was filmed here. Check it out. It's worth the drive to Crawfordville.

One of the Worst bbq I have ever had. Very polite staff but ribs had no smoke or flavor just boiled and Brunswick stew looked like sweet potato. Coleslaw was okay it's hard to mess that up.

Heavy's is a experience in its self. The pulled pork was good but I had never eaten Brunswick stew and didn't really take a liking to it. (I'm used to hash with rice)The slaw was good! Inside sitting area is a little strange and could use a good cleaning but the tables were clean.
