I wish I had time to read the reviews before booking but unfortunately the rental company I booked ran out of cars so I went to the first counter available. Big mistake! I was traveling with my family and frustrated with the first company (Fox, would not recommend either) that I didn’t notice the lady had me signing someone else’s paperwork. I was over charged by $300 and when I got in the car and drove around the loop the tire sounded as if it was going to come off. I had to return the car, remove our luggage, and do an exchange, got to the exit and was told I had to get new paperwork which I never did. Upon returning the car the new agent was very helpful and refunded the money that I was overcharged. If you book with them BE CAREFUL AND READ YOUR PAPERWORK!! (ATL location)

I did reservation trough priceline which was prepaid for Avis/Payless. When I reached the counter at Atlanta Airport they only had 3 representatives. I waited 1.5 hours in line. When my turn, the representative informed me that I needed a Non US Passport or international plane ticket in order to honor the fare. I said I did not had those (Have US Passport and Puerto Rico, REAL ID drivers license), nor the reservation said anything about such requirement. My reservation was for $469.00 aprox. and they wanted to charge me $1,000.00 for same car (minivan). Just to add the representative and supervisor were very rude and mistreated me. Their defense was that because the reservation was done through a 3rd party they could not do anything. I told them that everything was a misleading advertisement and false representation. I called priceline and they told me nothing could be done because that was the rental policy, priceline reimbursed me and I rented a smaller car paying $200 plus than my original reservation. in the 1.5 hours I was in line I clearly observed that the representatives were very slow and rude even with other clients, almost every reservation had a problem. I have rented cars a lot of times in the past and once you reach the counter it takes 3-5 minutes. This representatives took 15-20 per client. Worst experience ever and could not belive such disrespectful and rude representatives could ever exist. To add they requested me my US Passport when there was no requirement because I have a Real ID drivers license. I just did because I wanted to get out of there.

The agent who checked me in was not a very enthusiastic person and the car windows were so dirty I had to clean them myself. I guess with Payless you get what you pay for. They are affiliated with Avis, so I was surprised to receive a low-quality experience.

The counter representative upon picking up the rental was great. However the return of the vehicle was a disaster. I return the rental to the attendant and days later I received several text messages stating that my car rental was days overdue. I called the rental company and the representative had no information about my return. I even made sure to take pictures and video my return.

I rented a full size sedan to drive to Virginia with a group. We arrived at the counter 15 minutes prior to opening, after opening we were still waiting in the Payless line(1st person out of 5) Avis employees advises we need to be in the Avis line and to go to the back of their line(about 6 people) so now I am about 12 people back which took an unexpected amount of time. Booked a Camery (or similar) and got told all they had was an electric vehicle that had a range of 180. I informed him that our trip was over 500 miles, and on a schedule. The Avis employee elected to give me a Lincoln sedan and preceded to place an extra charge on the rental due to it being luxury. This is not what I rented and did not expect the extra charge. I will be using another company from this point on. 1 rating is due to the over priced vehicle they gave us made the ok. I filled the tank up prior to drop off but when it was picked up had 7/8 of a tank.

HORRIBlE experience, DO NOT recommend using this rental car company! In the rental lot, the 1st car I was given had check engine light on and attendant told me “There is nothing wrong with it, you will be fine, I promise” I made him get me another car & was told that the attendant would scan the barcode to exit the lot & that would reflect that I got a different car. It did not! I returned the car a day early and got a receipt that still had the original car on it and charged for 4 days. I had to call customer service TWO different times to get a refund for at least the additional day but was told there was no way to update the receipt to actually reflect which car I drove! On my second call to customer service because the 1st person I spoke with did not carry through on getting me a new receipt or refund, David wanted to know if I had “proof” of which car I drove, I told him no because the lot attendant told me that scanning the barcode on exit would show what car I had. Ridiculous system! Don’t waste your time…use someone else!

Possibly the worst rental car experience ever! The first rental car that we were given had the check engine warning light on so we had to return the car. Doesn’t Payless do a safety check on the car before renting them? When we took the second car out and started up the freeway entrance ramp, the car made a horrendous noise that continued any time we reached a speed above 35 mph so we had to turn around and return that car. Again, no safety check? The Payless agent didn’t apologize - she just said they we’re running low on cars and you get what you get and don’t pitch a fit. The third car we were given was filthy and smelled like an ash tray, but at least it ran without obnoxious noises or warning lights. I’ll never rent from the ATL Payless again. You should not either.

This was a two-day rental at ATL, booked directly with Payless online and prepaid. I was a bit hesitant to book with Payless based on some of the reviews I read but I must admit everything went very well. Pickup was a bit slow due to computer issues but I've seen this happen at other rental companies so not a big issue. Staff was friendly. When I went for my car it was an upgrade (SUV), normally I would refuse because gas cost more but since this was a short trip I did not mind. However, when I received my final bill (via email) I noticed there was an extra charge for the upgrade. I called customer service and they happily removed the extra charge with no questions. Again, the agent was very friendly and prompt. I asked about my deposit and she said it was already refunded to my credit card and should show up within a few days. So overall, I am very pleased with my whole rental experience and would definitely book with them again.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANYI wish I had read the reviews before booking. When I booked the reservation online (direct thru Payless), I pre-paid for the rental. When we arrived on our delayed flight, nobody was at the Payless desk. The Avis person was annoyed and told us to wait in the Avis line. We got to the desk and I declined all optional services. The desk agent condescendingly asked if I had my insurance policy to prove coverage. Of course I don't. Who brings their insurance policy with them on a trip?? I declined coverage again, told her I pre-paid and she abruptly finished and sent us to the lot (after charging a $250 deposit on my card). In the lot, there were at least a dozen groups waiting and we were told there were no cars available and we would need to wait while they bring some. We had rented an SUV, but I said we didn't care what kind of vehicle we got, anything would do. After quite a long time, our party was summoned with another 2 groups. The other two groups were given SUV's as they had reserved. There was also a camaro sitting there and a different agent asked if we wanted to take that car. ok, that would do. Cool! At that point I would have left a good review.But... when we returned the car, they were so backed up, we had to leave the car before it could be checked in. That was my mistake. I should have taken a photo of the gas gage and my gas receipt. but we couldn't miss our flight waiting for their slow service. I still was fine until I got the receipt just now. They charged me $7.99 for 0.8 gal of fuel. I had filled the car at the exit immediately before the rental car exit. It was 100% full. They also charged me $24.99 for the optional damage waiver that I declined and somehow the charge for total optional services became $49.98 (only fuel and damage waiver listed). plus taxes and fees and the additional amount charged to my credit card for the already pre-paid rental is $71.98. I'll not be returning to Avis or Payless and I will recommend all my employees, friends and family avoid them as well. You should too!

Don't waste your money!!! I rented a car and their system glitched and would not allow me to change the pickup/drop off times but was reassured on the phone and verbally by the ticket agent at the airport that if I returned my car on the same day listed in the contract it would be fine and no additional charges would be filed which was untrue. I came home to 158 missing and they are only willing to refund 30 dollars because they can not assist with something that was said to me by one of their agents they pay.

Nicholas in Atlanta made my experience wonderful. I don't know much about putting where I needed to go. He programmed every place that I would be going. I was so lucky to also have wonderful service upon return of the rental. I will use the Avis and Payless Car Rental Co. Nicholas rocks!!!!!!!!

I was skeptical of renting from Payless as I didn't know what to expect from a car rental company who I have seen in my travels, but wasn't as familiar with. After I got to the Thrifty counter at the Atlanta Airport and was told that cars would be a 4+ hour wait, I immediately canceled my reservation and was able to find a car through Payless. The experience was wonderful. The women working the counter went above and beyond. We shared stories, restaurant recommendations, and much more in the short time that it took them to get me in a car. They made me feel like family and not just another business transaction.

Staff at the airport counter was not friendly to me - she was to other people - if you know what I mean. Par for Atlanta..Upon returning my rental vehicle I received some additional charges for three items: Loss Damage Waiver (which the teller in Atlanta added without my consent and lied about!), 1.2 gallons of fuel at $9.90/gal, and Late Return. Take photos of your fill-up receipt and drop off! After multiple contacts with Payless billing support, these charges were refunded, but it sure would be great to be treated fairly by default instead of being forced to fight extra charges.

Rude agent at the counter when picking up our car. Then upon returning the car we received a message four days later stating that we needed to either extend our rental or return the car immediately! Mind you at this point we had been home for days. Pain in the neck getting that sorted out! Now fast forward nearly a month later I see a change for $450.00 on my CC from them.(WTF) After making contact with them they claimed they sent me an email informing me that the car was returned to them excessively dirty and this was a cleaning fee! What a load of BS! NEVER EVER AGAIN USING THIS COMPANY! Something is seriously wrong at this location.

Car was great but the hidden fees amounted to $180.50 over quoted price with unlimited miles. Returned car on full tank but was charged a Gas SVC option that was $62.90. There was a confession fee of $42.60, Customer Facility Charge of $45, Vehicle License Recouo of $13.50, and an Energy Recovery fee of $5.40. This was in addition to the quoted price of $326.58. All of the fees were taxed in addition to the excessive charges. None of this was mentioned prior. ?
