Moore's Gourmet Market, established in 2001, occupies a former neighborhood meat market. The simple interior showcases wooden tables, sophisticated lighting and wall chalkboards touting daily specials, typically drawn from Southern traditions, yielding dishes that are more than a notch above the ordinary in quality. Owner-chef Cortney Hultman presents a menu of favorites, including catfish --- two fried, lightly crumbed filets that are moist and nicely seasoned for just $10.50, a three-fourths-inch pork chop for $9.95 and a 10-ounce hand-cut rib-eye steak for $15.95. Lunch features a raft of sandwiches and burgers. At brunch, try the Southern Benedict: soft scrambled eggs on two biscuit halves with sausage and sausage cream gravy for $7.95. Vegetarians will find a lot to like among the sides to compose a plate. Don't overlook desserts, which Hultman himself prepares in-house. You'll think you've flashed back to the 1970s with these prices. Adding to the enjoyment, besides beer and wine, cocktails have been brought into the picture, but we find the beer choices more interesting.
