Wanted to take a minute to share my experience with this Farmer's Agent. First and foremost BEWARE of what the actual policy is you are signing for!! I was shopping around last Feb/March 2019 for homeowner's and auto insurance bundle. I contacted Allstate, State Farm, Progressive, Geico, and Farmer's. I read(even faxed to two agents) my current policy and coverages that I wanted/desired to have on my home and auto. The same coverage I had on my home & auto for the 26 prior years. The Home Owners policy had a $1,000.00 deductible and auto had $500.00 deductibles on my two vehicles. I received via email quotes from all the agencies for my desired coverage. Pricing was very competitive, all within $400.00. I chose Farmer's because of the rate and because I liked their commercials on T.V. (they seemed as reputable as all the others). The policy come to find out was not written for my requested coverage. (found this out when we had a valve failure in our master shower and had to submit a claim). Seems the policy was written with a property deductible for: "Applicable to each covered property loss (1% of Cov. A Limit)" The Dwelling Replacement Cost. This was never disclosed to me by Kristal L. Wheeler(the agent) via phone conversations, nor in an email, and was not the coverage I requested a quote for. When our claim was denied, I contacted Kristal questioning why this was not disclosed to me and why she had not written the policy with the $1,000.00 which I had provided her and requested. Her response to me was "as thorough as you were Mr. Walker, I would have thought you would have caught that when reading over the policy." When comparing all 5 proposals side by side, the body and numbers all seem to be consistent. Allstate, State Farm, Progressive and Geico all have the desired $1,000.00 deductible in the content/body odf the proposal. NOT FARMERS!! The 1% of Cov. A Limit is on a separate page from all the rest of "coverage". Misleading and hard to notice. It's even on the page with the Property Discounts to lure you to the "Total Discount Savings" line. The claim was denied and the agency made no effort to resolve my dissatisfaction or amend my policy to the requested/desired coverage. Stating "the bottom line is you signed the proposal Mr. Walker there's nothing we can do as there was no errors on our behalf. #1 Writing a proposal for a non requested deductible and not disclosing it is a good business practice? #2 My daughter's name was misspelled (2) different ways on her auto policy (Melisaa, Melisa) and never corrected (Melissa) til moving to Charleston, SC and cancelling. #3 My name was misspelled Allen vs. Alan on original proposal. #4 Our banking information was entered incorrectly and for 5 months we kept receiving cancellation notices after the payment amount wouldn't process. NO ERRORS ON THEIR BEHALF??? All in all it has been a nightmare and very time consuming on our behalf. Before doing business with this Farmer's agent/signing the proposal, I would review CAREFULLY & THOROUGHLY the contents. Do not expect any customer service to the consumer or "a need to fix" their wrongdoings or mistakes. MOST IMPORTANTLY make sure you're not getting the hidden 1% of Coverage A Limit (PROPERTY DEDUCTIBLE) vs the normal $1,000.00 deductible. Should you have a similar situation or occurrence with Farmer's, please feel free to email me at
[email protected]. I have filed a complaint with the insurance commissioner's office and do not feel this is an isolated incident. Finally, CHECK YOUR POLICY, you may not even know you have this coverage, especially when they don't disclose it so they can quote/propose a better, more competitive rate.
