The Dr. is super knowledgeable and breaks down everything for you, even tells you about breed specific issues. Our first appointment went smoothly, but our second appointment was right after the holidays and they were backed up on our scheduled appointment day. We waited for 30+ minutes in the parking lot, so I started driving around to calm my anxious pup. When they finally called to say that they were ready, they threatened to cancel/reschedule because we weren't immediately available. Lesson learned: avoid making late-day appointments if you can. Also, the front desk person who does most of the phone correspondence is a bit hard to understand. All that said, still grateful to have a specialist like this in the Atlanta area.

My dog was a patient here for two years. The doctor was consistently insulting, condescending, and extremely expensive. I do not recommend. Also gave an EXTREMELY high quote for eye surgery. I opted to go elsewhere where the cost was less than a quarter of what what she proposed. I know the cost was exorbitant because I worked with a charity for my animal's surgery and they told me it was the highest quote they had ever seen.

Dr. Powell and her staff are fantastic and I highly recommend them. The staff is very friendly, creating an almost family feel, and Dr. Powell is an absolute expert when it comes to eye issues. She knows how to explain it for the layman, which is extremely helpful. My piece of advice, if given the option between the collagen drops and the more costly stem cell drops is to bite the bullet and get the stem cell drops. It just works exponentially faster.

I am so grateful for Dr. Gail Powell-Johnson and her team! When I first adopted my kittens, they had that sort of standard kitten goopy eye, but it soon became clear that one cat's problems weren't going away. After a few different treatments through my primary vet, I was referred to AVEC. The doctor did a thorough exam of my cat, figured out what was going on, and has been honing a treatment plan over the last several months to make sure that the cat's chronically dry eyes don't lead to anything more severe. The doctor is super responsive to my concerns about what works and what doesn't when I actually try to get eye meds on properly in my home, and the entire team treats my cat with a ton of care. At our most recent visit, my cat was very nervous when we arrived. She was breathing fast and generally unhappy. After going back into the exam room, she came out content and relaxed because everyone working here is really kind with the animals in their care and gave her some extra massaging and love to show she was safe. Her eyes are looking clear and she doesn't show signs of discomfort since we started the recommended medications, which is such a relief. I know her tiny eyeballs are in good hands!!

Please avoid this place if you care about your animal. When I first walked in I was told where I could sit and then waited for the doctor. The doctor came out and sat across from me in the lobby and asked about prior medical history and then took my cat back and I wasn’t allowed to be with him. Within 1 minute she came back with a told me my cat was too aggressive to complete the exam. Please keep in mind I’ve never have had a vet EVER tell me that he’s aggressive during a visit it’s always been he’s the nicest. She said she was able to see the eyeball and its components and it was fine, all in under 1 minute? But she would need to see him again but under mild sedation. When my cat was brought back to me he was calm as could be and just laid in his carrier. Then she pulled out a bunch of books of eyes to try and make herself feel justified charging me the $160 for the 1 minute exam. If you don’t feel comfortable treating cats tell the patient prior to pick up sedation medication, not charge them $160 for 2 pills and no conclusions of the problem and say we will have to see you again when your cat is sedated and pay all the exams again. I also find it strange that where I was told I needed to sit I had no view of the exam happening and the fact that I wasn’t allowed back with my pet seemed odd. Avoid this place at all cost. I left and made an appointment with BluePearl veterinarian clinic a reputable ophthalmology clinic for animals.

First, I’d like to say how wonderful the office staff was to me and my senior golden retriever. I received excellent instructions about the office, parking, etc. They are very transparent about the pricing, and I was actually surprised how reasonable the final bill was including the various medications.Second, Dr. Powell is awesome! She is so relaxed and doesn’t rush. She really wanted to hear about my dog, and this helped us feel more at ease. Dr. Powell knows her stuff when it comes to veterinary eye care and helped me to understand what the issue was for my dog. Dr. Powell is also very knowledgeable about a holistic approach to daily care and made a few recommendations which I immediately began that day.I feel very fortunate to have my dog cared for by Dr. Powell and the office team. My dog’s eye is so much better, and I feel so appreciative that he’s doing well.

You will not find a better specialist. My cat was injured very close to his eye. She was able to repair the damage and save his eye without compromising the eye lid. He will be as good as new, something the emergency vet thought might not happen. The doctor and staff are very caring and professional. Highly recommend.

Love Dr. Powell! Cannot say enough good things about her and her staff. My Terrier was misdiagnosed by multiple veterinarians before we found Dr. Powell. Louie is a true ratter, wound up contracting toxoplasmosis. Dr. Powell correctly diagnosed him, prescribing meds that had him happy and healthy within a week.

I was referred to AVEC by our family vet, who I trust completely! Dr. Powell and her staff were amazing! The communication, from start to finish, was friendly and professional. What I REALLY appreciated was the medication instructions. The medications were each in their own little bag, and numbered, with clear and easy directions.

Dr. Powell is the best animal eye doctor! She was able to help my dog keep his vision for another 5 years after another animal eye doctor told me that there was nothing they could do to help him. I'm glad that I got a second opinion! Thank you Dr. Powell for helping Curley see the world all the way to the end of his life!

Let me begin by saying that I've read previous negative reviews and feel compelled to write a review myself. There must be a case of mistaken identity because Dr Gail Powell-Johnson is the ultimate professional and has helped my 15 yo Shih Tzu with his eye issues. Her care and concerns for my pet is the reason I continue to have her treat him. I will not hesitate to refer this practice to anyone who needs an Eye Vet for their furry family members.

Horrible experience. Cold and unempathetic practitioner. The doc stated my dog deserved to have been thrown in dumpster. I would recommend finding a board certified vet that can take care of you animals eyes and one that has compassion. No animal deserves to be thrown in dumpster.
