Reading other reviews, I see I was not the only one who experienced Kes’s attitude. I am glad it was not personal or something I had done. I hope those who care about her help her out.

Kes was so rude. My 2 year old had missed her nap so she was a bit fussy at the check out counter. Kes wasn’t even helping me. She commented from 4 registers down asking who the mother of the child was. And when I responded that it was me, she rolled her eyes and huffed before going back to her own work. It was super rude and impacted my shopping experience poorly, considering I was spending $200 at the store. Would not recommend coming to this REI unless you want to be treated poorly.

I’m originally from Seattle, WA, where REI is more than just a store—it’s part of our lifestyle. I even grew up two blocks from the original REI location and have been a proud member for as long as I can remember.
That’s why today’s visit was such a disappointment. For the first time ever at REI, I had a truly poor customer service experience. Kes, my interaction with you during a return was frustrating and fell far short of what I’ve come to expect. Your question, “Who is the mother?” to my wife was inappropriate, lacked professionalism, and frankly, was none of your business.
Aside from that interaction, the rest of our experience in the store was excellent. Unfortunately, because you are the last point of contact customers have before leaving, it overshadowed everything else. I leave way more positive reviews than negative ones so people tend to take my reviews pretty seriously.
We’ll be visiting REI’s other Atlanta locations moving forward. Thank you for providing clarity.

I’d like to thank Todd and Carly for providing very helpful service while my search and rescue team came in for a camelbak- but I would like to extend a great disdain towards the treatment our founder and president of our team endured by associate Kess/Cass. Upon entry for the camelbak, we had initially came to exchange a defective bladder for a new bag, to which she questioned our president’s ability to use the bag to begin with, a president from Seattle and a member of REI - someone who introduced themself as a canine handler. At the end of our transaction, she made an inappropriate comment in regard to our president’s 2 1/2 year old toddler, questioning the parenting ability of the parents in question while finalizing a transaction. This sort of interaction with clients, local clients, is beyond reason and severely disrespectful. We simply wanted to enter the store to better our equipment, to better serve our community. It is a shame to have been provided this sort of attitude.

When I went to buy a bike, I intended to get the cheapest one in the store. At the REI Bike shop, I met Candice, the bike store manager. She was incredibly knowledgeable about bikes! After listening to her talk about the affordable option, I asked her to tell me about the most expensive bike they had. Once again, she impressed me with her expertise and suggested I test both bikes.
I made the mistake of trying the more expensive model, the DRT 3.3, first. It blew me away instantly. I told her I wanted to buy that bike and skip testing the others. I should mention that Candice was gently guiding me towards the lower-cost option, which speaks volumes about REI’s commitment to customer satisfaction over profit.
In the end, I left with an amazing bike, and I’m really grateful to Candice and the entire team at the bike shop. The experience made me feel like I wasn't just buying a bike but becoming part of a very cool community.

TERRIBLE reorganization of the store. Men’s and women’s are all mixed together, camping gear seems diminished and scattered about, and the overall layout causes frustration every time I’m in the store. Even the employees concede that they don’t know where things are or why the departments are so mixed up.

The early 2024 floor plan layout redesign is horrific, confusing, and just plain inefficient. Is this made to fit a traditional man's body? Or a woman's? What's this rack next to men's hiking? Women's' biking? Every employee I've asked has said they also dislike the redesign. I previously visited at least once every couple weeks and spent $ on stuff I didn't need. Now I go in way less, get discombobulated and leave without purchasing anything. Way to go headquarters. The redesign is a perfect example of over engineering. Since REI only seems to grow, I bet sales are up and bean counters at headquarters will think it is a success. What a tragedy that would be.

If you're looking for recreational equipment - pretty much anything outdoors except fishing - you can't beat REI. Absurdly complete selection, competitive pricing, and knowledgeable, helpful staff!

Had a great experience purchasing an e-bike from REI! Blaize worked with my wife and me, and was very patient in explaining all of the different options and setting up test-rides for us. When the bike I was interested in wasn't on the floor, Blaize figured out that they had one and it was in the queue to be built. He figured out how to get it moved up in the queue and called me when it was ready to try out. On the next day, Blaize wasn't working but had given the info to Ritchie, who was also great in helping me get it done. Very great customer service! Thanks!!!

Took my 2010 Trek Valencia bike in for a complete makeover—tires, brakes, bolt torque to spec...everything. I've taken my bike to several reputable shops over the 13+ years I've owned my bike. This REI does excellent work. My bike is now like riding on glass.
