Unpleasant Experience at Avis Rent-A-Car DowntownDear Avis Team,I hope this message finds you well. I recently had my first rental experience at your downtown location, and unfortunately, it did not meet the standards I've come to expect from Avis. I am a frequent renter from the Atlanta airport, where I've always had positive interactions with your staff.During my recent rental downtown, I encountered a notable lack of professionalism and communication. There was an issue with the system not being updated on their end, which led to confusion and inconvenience. Moreover, I reported a noticeable smell in the car to a staff member, but regrettably, this concern was not documented.In addition to these issues, I prepaid for a mystery car, and I was given a vehicle that someone had left an older in. I promptly reported this to the staff to avoid being charged or penalized for something I didn't do. Despite the assurance from an employee that the issue would be documented, it wasn't, causing confusion and concern today.I observed that the cars being given out seemed to require service, such as an oil change and other maintenance. This raised concerns about the overall condition and safety of the vehicles provided.I value transparency and effective communication, qualities that were lacking in this particular experience. Due to these multiple concerns, I am compelled to share that I will not be returning to the downtown location for future rentals. I will continue to choose the Atlanta airport, where I have consistently received excellent service in the past.I trust that you will address these concerns and appreciate your attention to improving the service quality, maintenance, and safety standards at the downtown location.Sincerely,Salena R Allen

Avis representative was not of standards. The agent had a horrible attitude and lacked knowledge to explain procedures on returning the car back to the hotel. ie. return documentation of milage after use in order to get a receipt. He was not friendly. And proceeded to charge me for extras without even confirming my reservation. He should not be responsible for handling such matters.I was issued a car that was unsafe and not fit to be on the road. The alignment was completely off. There were issues with the transmission, and the tires were visibly not safe for the road. I would not recommend renting from this location for your own safety.

I made a reservation to pick up a car here, I had a time slot of Noon but wanted to come and pick up the car earlier, so I arrived at 9 am.I was the first person in line and noticed the person behind the desk seemed to be just starting his day.It seem to take a few passing moments before he was ready to acknowledge my presents and I understood he was just getting his day going.I presented my information and he said they could be a possible change rate due to being picked up early. I hesitated, asked another question and I said I would step out to allow him to assist someone else.I got back in line and after an hour of him helping 4 other people, it was my turn and said I would like to ahead and get the car. By that time, he was out of cars and would not know if he will be getting more cars in that day.I felt his customer service training failed him after this point and asked to speak to the supervisor and his response was he was that person. I asked for a business card and he refused to give one out. I left as this ended my willingness to see if he could be helpful and he was far from willing to do this!I was able to go to a nearby AVIS location and get a car.I would not recommend using this location and it seems most comments below feel the same.

I picked up a rental from the airport and needed to return it to a closer avis drop off so I called several locations and all of them wanted to charge me except the one on 5770 Peachtree industrial Ave. I had just gone to a funeral and I really appreciated that he charge me a drop off fee so that will be my first place to rent from going forward

Hotel valet kindly (?) took my car upon me showing up to the hotel right at dropoff time. I just got a bill one day later showing 3 days late fees. Seems like at least a fishy and/or fraudulent operation happening here between the two companies. This calls into question whether I’d ever do business with Avis again and also is a smear on Loews’ credibility as a hotel.

Giving people reservations for a car and not following through with it is what Avis specializes in. Got a text 3 time pushing the time back letting me know that they do not have any cars. This is RIDICULOUSTHE DISTRICT MANGEROR THE DIRECTOR OF THIS DISTRICT NEED TO BE LET GO. I will never rent a car from Avis again.

I had to update my review based on my latest experience. Prior review below for reference. Unfortunate but don't want people to be misled by my previous review. The agent at the time of getting the car was horrible. She said there were no cars available and when I (against her recommendation) arrived at the pickup location found out that there were more than a few cars available. Secondly, when I arrived at the location (Loews Midtown Atlanta) she wasn't even there and had been away for more than 20+ minutes. When she arrived, she asked me why I arrived without her message (I HAD A RESERVATION!). When she arrived finally and gave me the keys (after about 45 minutes of waiting) she wasn't able to answer questions about the car insurance. Finally, the car was dirty on the inside and the fuel tank was about 20% filled up. I told her about these and she asked me to take pictures and send them to her (AM I SUPPOSED TO BE DOING THIS? DON'T THEY ALREADY HAVE PEOPLE TO LOOK AFTER CARS THAT ARE RETURNED?). Absolutely horrible experience. I also edited my reservation to return the car earlier (had reserved it for 4 days but returned it after 2 days). Never again am I getting a car from this location.__________Old Review for Reference_____________I am seeing all the negative reviews here on Google reviews here but my experience was the exact opposite. The agent at the desk, Bubba (i might have spelled this wrong), was absolutely great and very courteous. He also provided me with an upgrade on my reservation. I would suggest this location for a rental to anyone and look forward to getting my next ride with Avis from this location!

We had an awful experience yesterday. We showed up to pick up our vehicle and the location didn’t have a vehicle for us. They said it would take at least 2-3 hours and there were no guarantees that they’d find a vehicle. I asked how to purchase a ticket for the bus and no one knew how.We left the location because we had things to do. When I called 2 hours later for a status check, they said that I wasn’t on the list anymore for a car. I got upset, so I was put back on the list.We headed back to the location by train because the Avis rep told us someone had just returned a vehicle. She said that she couldn’t hold it for us because there were others that needed a vehicle. I got upset again and explained that I had been waiting two to three hours, so the rep said they’d save the vehicle for us.We showed up and waited 20 minutes for someone to come to the rental stand. I called the location’s phone number and there was no answer. When the person finally arrived, I asked if the vehicle had been washed and the person said yes.When we got down to the vehicle, it had in fact not been washed and it reeked of cigarette smoke. We had no other option but to take the vehicle because the rep wouldn’t rent the 12-person van to me. I don’t understand why. If a location doesn’t have your vehicle for you, they should give you the vehicle that they do have.It was a very disappointing experience. I was made to feel like I was in the wrong when I did nothing wrong. I was told that this experience is common, which makes me not trust the brand. I’m very surprised that an upscale hotel like Loews would want a vendor like this “doing business” out of the front of the hotel.To summarize, we reserved a car for 9:30am pickup and drove away with the car at 1pm, 3.5 hours later.

Avis is by far the WORST car rental service I have ever used.The poor management is painfully obvious from the very beginning. Their customer service is absolute trash.There was a problem with our vehicle. We tried calling and you can not get through to the location you rent from. We called 3 times the first day and twice the second day only to get transferred around and hung up on.The last time we called we immediately asked for a supervisor who told us to take it to a specific location and trade it out. When we took it there they refused to trade it out.We called back again to their “customer service” and managed to get the same supervisor. This time he said they couldn’t do anything to fix the problem.So we are stuck driving around a car with the check engine light on, transmission issues hoping that we don’t break down in a dangerous area with our children.I would not recommend Avis to my worst enemy.

I was due to return my car at 10 am after a 4 day rental. I ended up returning it after 3 days at 6pm right before closing. I ended up sneakily getting charged a $75 fee (on top of my full 4 day rental) as since I returned it early, the daily rate had changed!

I’ve really tried to make it work with this location because it’s a block from my apartment and I rent twice a month, but it’s just not worth it for the following issues:1. They’re open 9-1 on weekends and take extended lunch breaks when you are scheduled to pick up your rental. It’s wildly unprofessional. Take your lunch after your shift ends at 1 like any other employee would rather than have timed pickups wait for 30 mins while you enjoy lunch on company time.2. I have witnessed the staff yell at and curse customers who question unprofessional behavior like #1. It’s appalling, even if you don’t agree with the customer’s feedback doesn’t mean you have to hold up everyone else in line to fight with them. Avis is clearly not teaching customer service to new staff and managers are completely absent.3. No cars when booked in advance. What service do you provide if you’re not able to provide cars that you allowed to be booked in advance? I had to cancel and book a Zipcar today because even though I booked far in advance you couldn’t make sure a car was available.I was willing to manage through the worst customer service to rent cars nearby, but being 30+ mins late because you had to take lunch during a 4 hour shift and now being told that you don’t even have a car for me is the straw that broke the camels back. I would advise anyone looking for a car on time with any bit of customer service to go anywhere else but Avis Loews Midtown Atlanta.

Once more prepaid for the car, they called back and say they don't have it 4 days later. And then tell you to cancel it yourself. Waiting 10 minutes on the call line to cancel it and get a refund to avoid the cancellation fee. Absolutely terrible experience. Happened three times at this point, four months apart.

We reserved a car, and were told they were sold out after we arrived Avis. We didn’t receive any cancellation email or call at all. No apology or solution, just asked to cancel the reservation by ourself. Totally a waste of time and money and extremely awful service. Do not rent a car here!!!
