I needed help with some technical glitch on THEIR end, in regards to a mortgage payment! I had to go through SEVEN (7!!!) different people giving me the run around, passing me off on other departments, being disconnected and putting me on hold. They wasted an hour and a half of my life on the phone. Total JOKE! One of the tellers is nice.

The level of incompetence and poor service from South State Bank in Athens has been nothing short of astounding. We tried for over a week to get a payoff quote on a mortgage and it took 5 calls from the closing attorney and 3 calls from us to finally get a response. Bank staff would promise us callbacks that would never come. People would pass us around from member to member until calls were disconnected. When we would tell people that our closing was in jeopardy because the lawyer was waiting on this one piece of paper, that was met with ZERO empathy or apologies. We would kindly ask if someone could *please* just send this over to the attorney and yet nobody at South State cared. At all.And you can't get it on-line either. All of their on-line tools are antiquated and clunky. And zero tools for mortgages. To apply for the mortgage originally nothing could be done online - it all had to be done in person. And even to get a copy of a statement there were no online tools - again, just in person.When we first picked South State we were hoping for a kind local bank with an appreciation for their customers. But it's been nothing but a horrible struggle through the entire life of our loan.

They charge to cash a check from their bank - that is BS. I would understand just cashing a check from another bank.

Have to be at work. The lobby is still closed. So only having ONE drive through window isn’t very smart. Been sitting in line for over half an hour just to deposit a check. Why have two tubes at the drive through if you can only utilize one. Worst drive through of any bank I have ever seen. And since there’s only one in Athens you have absolutely no choice to go anywhere else. Been banking here since before it became South State. And have had no other issues. The tellers are amazing!! But whoever designed this bank, needs a different job! They aren’t very good at that one!

If i could give them less I would. The branch in Toccoa is awesome especially Ms. Walker, but the branch manager in Athens needs to work on her customer service skills. There are a lot of ways to say no. You don't have to be snarky and you should let them know you tried to resolve their issue and cared. She obviously doesn’t care.

Poor communication from Jessica Roberts. She does not keep up with details or promises. It has taken a week what I was told I would get in one day and the information is not what she said she would provide. Zero details that I requested with her adding details that we never discussed prior to the email.

I was given a check to cash at this location. When I entered the building, I was not greeted immediately, but regardless the wait time was short. When I got to the counter, the teller was off putting and she seemed distracted (as she was having a conversation with the teller next to her during my transaction). Whenever I told her I needed to cash the check without a bank account, her face went immediately sour as I could tell this happens quite often with them. She told me it was going to be $8 fee to cash my check which was less than $50. As I read the signs posted near them, I already knew this was going to be the case. I obliged and went along my way. After speaking with the person who gave me the check, they informed me that I should not have been charged the $8 and the branch in Evans, GA settled the issue immediately. The company doesn't seem too bad, but the fatuous women behind the teller counter will definitely make you think twice about banking here... It's unfortunate that this is the only branch in Athens.

I have been banking with South State Bank since before it was South State Bank I haven't been with them since they were Bulldog Bank and Trust Community Bank & Trust I've been with them since 2007 I absolutely enjoy the people who work there I have built a friendship I don't feel like I'm just a customer anymore they are truly good people that work there I'm sure some have had bad experiences and yes it is an inconvenience at times that it's hard to find ATMs and hard to get money out if you are out of state butt for a small town like Athens it is a great Bank keep up the great work
