I love to check out Piggly Wiggly as we travel around the SouthEast. We were delighted to see one so close to our new home. By far, this is the worst Piggly Wiggly I have ever been in. Part is due to location. We were greeted by the local homeless, some of whom appeared to be doped up. They were at the entrance. Many of the shelves were sparsely stocked but that may have been due to the problems with supply chains post COVID. It was obvious that there had been vandalism within the store as some of the freezer doors consisted of plywood and duct tape. It is sad that the locals don't care enough to respect property and that the owner/management are not addressing the problem or fixing the store. On a good note, the staff was pleasant .

This was our first time shopping at a Piggly Wiggly, let us first mention that it has a great Mascot. There was a lot of fresh vegetables and fruits, and affordable baked goods! The deli/hot food section looked extremely delicious. Shout out to the thick cheesy mac&cheese. We also liked the piggly wiggly t-shirt selection/merch. The staff were also very friendly and efficient when we paid at the register. We had a great shopping experience here!

We love shopping at the Pig! Lol, but it's def not a place for delicate snowflakes (i.e. college kids). If you want to pick up fresh mullet, pork chops (or place an order for a hogs head) this is the place to go. This market serves a particular niche, one that is NOT filled by Kroger's or Publix,. Definitely a 'go-to' store for our household.

Okay. So to be honest before I lived in Athens, I didn't even know that Piggly Wiggly even existed as a grocery store anymore. As it is, this is one that could cease to exist, and it wouldn't be that missed. Even though it's nice having a grocery store located close to where I live, the fact that they have pretty early closing hours, and the fact that it's probably one of the oldest grocery stores around, doesn't serve to help. Although North Ave. is getting better as an area, there are still a lot of elements that college students would rather not be around, and I don't usually see many college students shopping here. It's unfortunate because that might be a reason that's keeping the grocery store down. Still It gets a two from me for the fact that it's old, the clientele can be shady (being located so close to the ghetto), and the fact that it closes early and doesn't have that great of a selection. The only reason it has a two is because of its convenience in location, but mostly if I go grocery shopping its several miles away at the Wal-Mart in Oconee.
