We were visiting here and had some time to kill before the Wilson Fairchild concert and stopped in here to see what we could do. It was First Friday, and Steve Short was so nice and helped us fill our time with some fun things. Trolley ride was great with Clyde being so nice and helpful. Made us feel right at home here.

We were treated with such warmth and accommodation here that I'm finally coming back to leave a review more than a year later. The gentleman at the Welcome Center couldn't be more lovely or helpful. We arrived in town too late to do much due to dinner reservations, so he offered us a private tour of the stunning and "haunted" Historic Windsor Hotel at the only time we had available. Our then 11 year old daughter loves haunted tours and spooky stuff, but it can easily get to be too much for her. He discreetly pulled me aside to ask just how creepy he should make the tour and was mindful of her reactions the entire time, clearly adjusting the tour to keep her engaged but comfortable. He was so knowledgeable about every inch of the hotel and turned something simple into an unforgettable experience. She had an awesome time and asked a ton of questions, and he also taught her how to use the antique rotary phone booth in the lobby, which was a real experience for her. He even introduced us to some members of the hotel staff to ask them about spooky experiences they've had while working at the hotel, which they were happy to share. I feel so bad that I can't remember his name after all these months, but I hope he'll see this review and know that he made our trip to Georgia amazing! Americus is a beautiful and historic place and thanks to him, we were able to appreciate it fully. Most towns have a forgettable Welcome Center, but if you're in Americus, it would be a huge mistake to skip it!

The POW Museum and Andersonville National Historic Site are must-sees for people who love military history and American freedom. Both are poignant and impressive and very educational. Americus and Sumter County also have lots of fun family things to do......and then there is that peanut butter ice cream....and all the wonderful people who are always so welcoming...definitely a true southern gem of a community!

Seems like this page has been trying to game the review system by trying to get legitimate reviews removed by Facebook. They recently offended a lot of people, both local and tourists, by posting an article that pretty much attacked fundamental christian beliefs and when people objected, they started deleting comments. One complaint even stated that commenters were being blocked from the page. Maybe Facebook will delete my review, too, but to me that is a pretty legitimate complaint against the organization responsible for the page. I like visiting this area, but would not deal with the tourism council responsible for this page after this, especially when it seems they could have made it right with a simple apology.
