I have had Lola by my side nearly constantly for over 14 years. From when I picked her up at 6 weeks old she was unique in many ways and taught me many things. Unfortunately, all the pieces of the puzzle that created so many ups and downs for us both over the last nearly 3 weeks have finally come together in a clear reason she was susceptible to the mystery respiratory virus that can kill dogs while Latte was not, even though they shared water bowls; and, why her respiratory virus would not go away; and, why she yesterday began developing pneumonia; and, why she today developed a bladder infection; and, why her blood O2 suddenly dropped to 92% after staying at 100% throughout this ordeal. We both tried hard but one assay I put off to minimize her discomfort despite hints by my favorite vet, was a biopsy of her systemically slightly enlarged lymph nodes as noted on the many x-rays she has had recently. Given the evidence of her weakened immune system, it was time to assume she has a nascent B cell lymphoma so common in older dogs or something similar and therefore time to put her out of her misery.I got Latte 6 months after getting Lola precisely because I had already brought to tears just thinking of Lola’s future death and wanted an empathetic pup to console me when that happened. As I type, Latte is licking tears from my face so I guess that was a good choice for this moment and in many other ways. I showed each vet we encountered a vigorous Latte and explained that they both were mistaken for 1 year old pups just 2 1/2 weeks ago. Alas, Lola’s suffering was short and I guess the worst only lasted a week. For that, and the years we spent with her, and the BluePearl Tampa staff and Dr Alphonso, we are thankful.Karen & Latte

I would give 10 stars if I could. When we were told our dog needed a transfusion immediately and to go directly to this hospital, I cried the whole way. I didn’t think I would get to bring my dog home. The vets and techs were able to explain everything thoroughly. The amount of knowledge they have was very calming because I knew Tyson was in great hands. When we received updates on the phone, they never made us feel rushed or like asking questions was an inconvenience. Today we got to bring him home. I am so thankful for the care he received at this hospital. Also an added bonus that during his stay, they sent us a picture so we knew he was doing well.I hope we are never in need of an emergency vet again, but if we are this is where we will be going!

Your dog is just an ATM ($$$$$) for this facility!!Be prepare to leave this place broke with no money in your pocket. Don’t come here unless you are a millionaire and you don’t care about your pet.– Take your pet somewhere else – trust me, your dog will be better off. Please take care of your pet at home if you can with over-the-counter medicines. This place is just a rip off plus doctors and staff always have an excuse for not getting back to you.Very disappointed with BluePearl at Bush Boulevard, Tampa FL. I took my dog here with stomach problems. They suggested over six thousand dollars in tests to find out what the problem could be. After paying all this money it took them over 10 days for them to get the results back. Find out there in the spot, that they don’t own any of the machines needed to get the results back in 24 hours or less. They send most of the test out to make a bigger profit for them.Ten days passed and no one called me back for the results yet. They claimed they call me multiple times and had no luck. This in un-true as I had no miss calls or any messages left on my cell phone. They also, had two more cell numbers and no luck neither?? Common, it’s just lie after lie.For the last two days I have requested a doctor or supervisor to call me back to give me the results and it turns out they are always busy with a case. All they tell me is that a doctor will call me back at the end of the day and nothing happens. They don’t care about your pet here, trust me. Don’t let them tell you otherwise. It’s just all money here …..no empathy or feelings at all for your pet. It’s funny they charge you for an emergency visit fee when you come in that is around $230 dollars but then, they tell you it would take over 10 days for a result. If you come in as an emergency and you paid over 6k for the test, you expect your test results will be ready in 24 hours or less not in ten days.I even sent them a diarrhea picture with blood in it via email two days ago and no one has bothered to get back to me yet. This is ridiculous….I could go on and on….just don’t come here. Your pet at home is better trust me.After this lesson learned the hard way. I learned that us the pet owners at home, we are the best vets for our owns dogs, cat, etc. with over-the-counter medications.

We had to bring our dog in urgently late last night to be seen regarding an issue with her eye. They were able to get her diagnosed quickly with an eye ulcer and provided us with all of the medication we needed. She was seen by Dr. Metral, who took great care of her and was very knowledgeable and patient with us, and they even sent all of the records from the visit immediately over to our primary vet.

This was such a great experience! The facility was so clean, tons of windows, and the friendliest staff to help you. My dog is usually shaking at the vet the whole time, but since there were so many windows in the room, she wasn't even aware she was at the vet! Dr. Harris was so easy to talk to, understand, and just a very kind person. His knowledge was extensive yet he was a great communicator too. Would recommend this place without hesitation. We drove 90 minutes to see this specialist and it was worth every minute.

My host experience with my dog Rosie was a very professional caring and knowledgeable staff I was told very detailed medical information about my pets emergency medical procedures with risks and benefits of what to expect beginning during and end outcomes of her surgery with respect to her sustained injury that she had on that day…My rating of 5 stars is undoubtedly the best of the best..If possible can Blue Pearl expand to Hernando county..Our area is very limited for emergency services to be provided to all animals..

This review is specifically for the ophthalmology department, I have had positive experiences in the past with the emergency department, but their specialty department is another story. My dog was referred to the ophthalmologist here due to ulcers on his eyes, and the ophthalmologist told me he needed surgery to remove extra eyelashes. Despite reading negative reviews, I decided to trust them with my fur babies care, which was a giant mistake. Let me just say, if you are reading this, use this as a sign to FIND ANOTHER OPHTHALMOLOGIST. After an extensive surgery, my dog started to get some post surgery complications, to which blue pearl never answered me about, and quite honestly could not have cared less about. My dog began to vomit, a lot, and then a week later his eyes began to swell shut completely. The complications were disgusting, his eyelid was basically folded inside out, and when i finally got in contact with them (after many attempts) they told me to take him somewhere else, INSANE. After bringing him to my family vet, I brought him back to blue pearl for a follow up, and my dogs eyes were swollen shut, only for the doctor to tell me my dog was FAKING IT. FAKING IT FOR ATTENTION, and the solution is to put him in a crate. I left this appointment and cried at the lack of empathy, she basically told me my dog was just badly behaved, and nothing was wrong with his eyes. The fact that this place is still running is amazing. I then went for a second opinion else where, my dog was operated on two days later, and I was told that my dog had 3 ulcers in his eye (so no, he wasn't "faking it for attention") and what blue pearl operated on was not even the problem. He basically went through a surgery on all 4 eyelids at blue pearl for nothing, and the root of the problem was not even solved or investigated there. They are unprofessional, and do not care about your fur babies. I am regretful I ever brought my dog here, but am so thankful for the other ophthalmologist that was able to correct his eyes, and actually listened to our concerns instead of talk down to us and tell me to punish my dog for crying in pain over his eyes. The reviews about this place are concerning. If you need an ophthalmologist, do your self a favor and Avoid this place if you don't want to spend thousands, thousands, and thousands, all for nothing basically.

Our 4pound Yorkie fell off the couch on his head. Terrified my husband and I. He was stiff and having trouble breathing. We thought he broke his neck. Rush him to BluePearl. Front desk was very responsive and he was rushed into an exam room. Dr Nguyen was excellent. She calmly explained what needed to be done. Xander made a full recovery with in 2 days. We were all a bit surprised. BluePearl is my go to emergency clinic!

OUTRAGEOUS PRICES. They take advantage of people who are in need of emergent care for their pets. My dog had bladder stones and they quoted us $10,000 for the surgery. They made it seem like they were the only ones who could do the procedure and told us the other option was humane euthanasia for a 3 YEAR OLD dog. We called around other places in town and found a vet who kindly did an exploratory procedure and flushed out the stones for a tenth of the cost that Blue Pearl charged us. Beware, they will charge you more than human surgery prices.

Went here to see an internist for my dog. His notes said to rule out GI disease vs Cushing's. My dog was tested for Cushings and had an ultrasound. Tests came back positive for Cushings and they wanted me to put my dog on medication. I opted out because of her well know history of GI issues to everything. I went to several vets after including holistic who all said they don't think my dog really has cushing's because she's losing weight not gaining and its the GI disease giving false positives. Labs did show low folate and borderline low albumin at the time too as well as low vitamin d which all suggest gi disease and malabsorption. I went elsewhere and a few months later I re-did an ultrasound elsewhere which strongly suggested lymphangiectasia which is serious. Biopsies also proved it. So she was misdiagnosed here.

My experience at Blue Pearl was extremely disappointing and I would NOT recommend them unless you want a botched surgery for your precious fur baby. Our dog underwent THREE left eye removal surgeries costing us a total of $5,000 and multiple visits. The incompetence of their team resulted in poorly stitched, infected wounds causing dehiscence and leading to an additional $2,000 expense. I was horrified by his incision when I picked him up after the second surgery and had a terrible feeling as I knew it was performed carelessly. The top layer of his skin and fur around his eyelid was gone and subcutaneous tissue was exposed putting him at risk for infection and resulting in a THIRD surgery. I would post pictures, but it's too graphic. Their lack of care and skill exhibited was shocking, and the fact that I had to pay again for their mistake is unacceptable. I expected better service and accountability the second time around. It's disheartening that they didn't rectify their error or offer compensation for their incompetence. To put it in perspective, I have family that had this same surgery done on both eyes for their dog a few years for only $700 and he recovered with no complications. Needless to say, we will not be returning or recommending this place to anyone who loves their pet.
