TL;DR: REI is a clean, well-organized store with amazing staff. Courtney and Sophia made finding the perfect hiking boots quick and easy—highly recommend!
Stopped by REI while passing through town to find some hiking boots and had an awesome experience. Courtney guided me to the shoe area, and Sophia was incredibly helpful in explaining everything and helping me find the perfect pair. I was in and out with new boots in under 30 minutes! The store is clean, well-laid-out, and the staff is superb. I don’t live nearby, but if I did, I’d shop here all the time. Highly recommend.

On August 26, 2024, I visited REI CO-OP, a store where I have been a loyal member for the past few years, but my experience that day was deeply unsettling. Upon entering with my brother, we were immediately met with cold, unfriendly stares from several staff members. While one young lady kindly acknowledged us and offered assistance, which I truly appreciated, the overall atmosphere was far from welcoming. A man who appeared to be the manager was particularly rude, offering no greeting or assistance. As I tried to gather information about my membership benefits, I noticed two male employees staring at us in a manner that felt hostile and uncomfortable. One of them even followed us, pretending to work while keeping a close eye on us, which made me feel like we were being racially profiled. The discomfort continued as we made our way to the back of the store, where another employee was dismissive and unhelpful until I insisted on getting the help I needed. To top it off, when we looked at bikes, a man aggressively offered help even after we declined, then continued to watch us from a distance. This entire experience left me feeling targeted and unwelcome, a stark contrast to my previous visits. I eventually purchased my shoes and quickly left, deeply disturbed by the racial profiling I endured during this visit. Don’t go here if your a black person they do not value your service

I’m not sure what rating to give, I love REI. And have shopped here for a while but I will not be returning anytime soon. I was made extremely uncomfortable by one of the employees Dan. He came up to me and my friend while shopping to ask me if my name was Nat Whitaker. Which was freaking weird, and made so uncomfortable that he knew my last name. I did not recognize him. He told me he was one of my friends exs. He then preceded to ask some questions about her. I think it was extremely inappropriate and uncomfortable for me as a customer. I tried to make sure I avoided him in the store but then he was then one to check me and my friend out at the register. While he was checking us out he asked me personal questions about my life, like if I was doing anything different. Even though the questions weren’t necessarily inappropriate in nature as a customer service worker as well I would not have been speaking that way to my exs friend. He needs to learn boundaries as a service worker.

This 5 star review is for an employee named Levi. He went beyond the call of duty helping me find something for my Danner boots. The store is clean and very well stocked for the outdoor enthusiasts. Unfortunately... my young daughter will NOT be using gender neutral restrooms ever, so I will NOT be shopping at this store again.

Their brand name products are generally okay. Some are much better than others— like my fiancé’s large backpack that’s lasted 10+ years. That being said… it’s not worth the $$. Buy used and you won’t even have to hear the membership spiel.

The bike shop at REI Tallahassee is top notch! They got me sorted on my bike repair and I will definitely use them again in the future!

Expensive and turned off by REI’s promotion of woke social/political agenda. Another DEI till you DIE company.

Too expensive and if you enter a ten foot radius of an employee they will pester you about the REI membership.

You'll always get what you pay for when it comes to quality outdoor apparel and equipment! Also the staff was very knowledgeable about everything down to the right type of socks!! AIso seen that REI was holding outdoor classes there. Other stores in town don't carry the type of quality that is put into their products that they sell, but they come with an impressive price. Would return again!

Great store and adequate location in Tallahassee! The first time we found an REI was north Georgia and I had never been in before. Great place if you love outdoors a s camping. They have anything you can think of. A little pricey, but you always get what you pay for. Love this place!

I've been really excited about REI opening a location here as a long time co-op member. But for awhile I was just using it as an online store since we didn't have a store here.
This place has everything you need for your outdoor adventures. And the member program helps a lot. This location is a little smaller then others I've been to, but the staff is helpful and knowledgeable like always. I even liked their bike section so much that I bought a new mountain bike from them after shopping around. The staff during the process was motivated and normal.
Tallahassee has been lacking in outdoor stores, with small businesses trying to fill that void. But they come up lacking. I usually like to support the small businesses over the big ones, but REI is like a small business running on a bigger scale.
