The Exchange is a reasonably priced, dog friendly hotel in St Pete's. Near the water and not far from Central, there's lots within walking distance and the hotel itself is pretty cool, a remodelled old building just out of the way, the elevator is a little slow but the staff are nice and the decor makes up for it. The rooms are comfortable but it can get a little noisy during busy times like NYE or Halloween but that's to be expected. The bar has some decent food and good drinks as well, a great place to chat with other guests.

Tried to get the front desk to answer the phone for the better part of an hour. Decided to take a chance & just show up for a room. Desk clerk was wearing her AirPods, enjoying her tunes chewing her gum. Not too busy to answer the phone. I had rate quotes from $92-$130 but she said I would have to pay $157 because I didn’t use a third party. I explained that those third parties wouldn’t confirm availability or not so that’s why I came in person. There is also a $60 security deposit. After all that, when she instructed me how to find my room, I learned there was NO ELEVATOR!!!!!!!! She could see that I was a female with 2 substantial bags (on a business trip, with my mobile office) & she didn’t think to tell me that when I was making my decision whether to stay for her higher price! I thought I would NEVER get those bags hauled up!!! The room reminds me of an AirBnB. Nice attempt at renovation, but a bit shabby chic. I appreciate that the room AC unit was quiet. But NO room darkening drapes!!!!!! Only sheers, so I had to undress in the tiny bathroom so as not to give the neighbors and parking lot a peep show.

This hotel building is historic, just a different name than what it's called now. It's in downtown St. Pete walking distance to everything. If you like steaks, Ruth Chris Steakhouse is to the right of the building when leaving the hotel across the street. AMC is also next to it, if you want to watch a movie. If you need shoes, right next store is a shoe store inside a orange bean house. So much you can do while visiting here! In the hotel you mainly have a bar, but has a menu for food. The rooms are cozy, at least for me. The rooms are a little cold when you walk in, so make sure you set it to the temperature you want it to be. You will be charged a fee while you stay, In case something happens in the room. Once you leave, you will get the money back on your card. The staff are friendly, automatic doors, wheel chair access, what else can I say about this hotel. One of my favorite hotels to stay in when visiting without spending a fortune!

Worst hotel it’s nightmare don’t recommend whatsoever I would go somewhere else…. Firstly the customer service is the worst rude, very nasty, argumentative. If you can’t work in customer service don’t take the job. Secondly they hold 60$ of your money and don’t respond or release until after 14 days…. Biggest scam hotel. Frankly it’s not worth the money they charging for. Rather go to the Avalon that’s your best bet for your dollar.

The Exchange Hotel is 5 stars across the board! Starting with Marcus, the Valet attendant, he was so helpful with our bags and quick with bringing our car around to have it ready for us when we were leaving! Marcus was even kind enough to help retrieve our Uber eats delivery when the driver was lost! The staff at the front desk greeted us with smiles and kind words through out our entire stay and made us feel right at home! The rooms were very clean, the beds were very cozy and the lobby is beautiful to grab a drink or just relax inside! The hotel is centrally located where you can walk to many different attractions! This was my mom & I’s 3rd time staying there and we will be back mainly because of the staff & the overall comfort! Highly recommend!

The pictures of the rooms look much better than the rooms. It was incredibly small, FREEZING when we first went in and in rough shape. The splitter took a bit to get the heat going. It would have been nice if this had been attended to before we arrived as it was later in the evening and just didn't want to have to deal with cold room issues as it was also raining out, to add to the cold. The valet that was on when we arrived was not very welcoming or friendly. I think he was upset that we chose not to valet as there was a spot on the street right outside the hotel driveway. Who wouldn't opt for free parking if it's available?! Once he knew we were valeting, he had no use for us.When we were settled into our room, we went to the bar for a drink. Again, the bartended was very standoffish. No smile, nothing welcoming at all. She warmed up a bit when my partner complimented her on her drink but before that, there was no pleasantries at all. A smile and a hello can go a long way.The friendliest person was the man behind the desk (I am sorry but do not remember his name. Possibly Michael?) He did come in and dealt with the heat situation and was very nice. The best thing about this hotel is they are pet friendly. I always appreciate that but again, the rooms are very small if you also have a dog or 2 that is staying. All in all, not worth the $200 + price for the night.

Food & drinks: The chicken parm with fettuccine is a must try! Good portion and great taste. The vegetable flatbread was also fantastic. Great food and service, we will absolutely be back!

We stayed here for New Years Weekend. Upon arriving we were immediately welcomed by both valet and front desk staff. They were wonderful. All weekend we were cutting up with the staff. The room was small and had some wear and tear from being an old building. But never the less the accommodating and friendly staff made up for it!!! as a group of 20 something’s that didn’t spend much time in the room, we will definitely be back. And you can’t beat the location!Seriously thank you so much for the valet guys and the front desk manager i believe! They were great.

Super friendly and helpful staff. Poor bedding.Old everything, which can be a good thing, but not in this case. Our AC split unit was so loud I couldn't sleep without earplugs, and there was a leak in our bathroom ceiling that dripped for hours in the middle of the night.Amazing location, only minutes from everything.

Beware, Health Alert! Run down hotel. 1 st floor room had a very strong moldy musty smell that immediately burnt our throats sinus. I've stayed in hundreds of hotels all over the world and Never had this issue and I'm not a complainer unless it's serious or unhealthy. Smelled like hotel tried to cover up water mold damage with strong chemicals. Wall had big streak marks from water damage and not repaired. Changed room to 2nd floor and had same bad smell. I asked other guests if they were experiencing same issue and they said yes. Told front desk and they argued with me and were indifferent to our problem and said that smell was normal with a 100 year old building, but that's ridiculous! Got so bad our lungs and throats were hurting and I'm in good physical shape. Left hotel after deciding this was very risky and unhealthy. Elevator did not work but front desk said they didn't even have one, very strange. Had tons of luggage and took 6 trips to move it out of 2nd floor.Hotel did not charge us since we left within a few hours of checking in.

The Exchange Hotel is a beautiful place, with extremely accommodating staff. The General Manager Andre is welcoming and friendly. Inesha (sorry if I misspelled your name ?) went above and beyond to put me in an easily accessible room due to a recent injury, and I really appreciated that. The Valets joe and Latrez were great.Gorgeous place, in the heart of downtown St Pete. Highly recommend.Rooms: Well appointed, clean, and maintained.Nearby activities: Any and everything you can think of.Safety: Extremely safe.Walkability: You can walk to the new pier, north shore park, and dozens of different restaurants and museums.Food & drinks: Did not have a chance to try their food. In the middle of moving.

The hotel was amazing but the bar & restaurant left us speechless. We ordered the Cuban sandwich & the Caribbean seafood pasta, words cannot describe how fresh & flavorful they both were. Michael (food manager), Ricky (cook) & Chelsea (bartender) were so attentive & exceeded our exceptions. We highly recommend coming in for a date night for dinner & drinks.
