So, if you are over 21 and your ID is still vertical, don't try to buy cigarettes at this location. It's apparently their company policy to not accept vertical IDs regardless of the date of birth on the ID. Stopped at Owens last night to buy cigarettes sent my 21 year old daughter to the window and was refused sale. She is over 21 with a valid Florida ID. My daughter returned and said the guy said something about a vertical ID and wouldn't sell them to her. I went to the window to purchase the cigarettes, didn't say anything about my daughter, just asked for the cigarettes and was refused. When I asked why the guy said because she had tried to buy them and couldn't so I couldn't. I told him she's over 21 and he started yelling about company policy. Not gonna lie, I lost my patience and cussed him out. It had been a long day and this guy was rude for no reason. No one had been rude to him yet. I called this morning and asked about said company policy, turns out it is their policy but he was in the wrong for being rude and refusing to sell to me since my daughter was over age. The lady I spoke to was very nice and apologized for his behavior as I did mine. Just a heads up if you have a vertical id, don't try to buy anything age restricted because you're going to be refused. I think that policy needs to be revised, especially if the date of birth is what it should be.

I always have a friendly chat with whoever is working at the time. Great lil spot for cheaper gas and cheaper cigarettes. Not usually crowded either at the pumps. But I always leave with a smile even if I wasn't when I got there lol

I live clear on the other side of town but I drive to Owens whenever I need gas I've been in St Augustine since 2007 and it's just been my place to go their gas is typically the cheapest in town and the people are always nice

Conveniently located on the corner of Ponce de Leon and Marion Street. Quite often petrol is cheaper than other nearby stations, or equal to whoever is cheapest in the area...and this can be a big difference sometimes. This is a no-frills, semi-old school type of filling station that happens to have upgraded pumps. It's a laid-back, easy-peasy type of place! It is easy to get into, but can be hit or miss getting out of with the traffic, the turning lane, and where you want to go if you want to continue on Ponce de Leon. You may want to take Marion St. to S. Dixie Hwy to get back on your way.

Terrible service! We wanted to fill up our rental car as we had to return it; the lady at the cashier - a really rude person from the very beginning - said we had to tell her the exact amount of gasoline we wanted to fill. How can you do this - the rental car has to be returned with full tank? So I asked if I could leave my credit card until the tank is fulled: no! I asked how I could manage to fill the car then? “It’s not my problem, go to another place!” I have never ever experienced something rude like this!
