We reviewed a kayak for the week during our stay at the beach. We got the three seater, which I’d honestly classify as a large two seater with an area for a little kid to sit. That being said, my teenagers took turns going out together and had an absolute blast! It wasn’t an issue with them taking turns, and they enjoyed the extra room with the kayak. Captain Larry and his wife were very nice and helpful throughout the entire rental process. Capt. Larry helped us load the kayak atop our Honda Pilot (we have a roof rack, but I think he has cushions for vehicles without one).
We have also shopped in their store for the past several years. They pack a lot of nice clothing options, hats, sunscreen, sunglasses, and fishing gear inside their store. Not to mention kayaks for sale and various rental gear.
I’m very pleased with Island Outfitters and Captain Larry and his wife - definitely give them a shot at your business, you won’t regret it!

Horrible customer service. Rude, clear lack of professionalism. I would not even consider renting a beach towel from this establishment.

Island outfitters is awesome and the owners are super friendly and helpful! The male owner was extremely knowledgeable about fishing on the island. This shop has bait, tackle, rods and reels, and much more. The souvenir shop has quality merchandise and isn't full of cheap stuff like other shops on the island. I definitely recommend island outfitters!

Decent selection of stuff, bought a few hundred bucks in items and left. Came back second time and had interactions with the old man in the camper on the side of the store. Assuming he was the owner, based on his vocal displeasure with my kids sitting outside eating snow cones. Pretty gruff and rude guy, we turned around and left and I certainly won’t be spending my money here again. My kids said he spoke poorly to them while we ran inside. Apalach outfitters is a nicer store anyways for clothing. The ladies in the store need to hide him out back, seems he’s got some screws loose.

After only being in the store for about 30 seconds, I already got a very bad vibe. My daughters (5 and 11) were simply in a good mood as they walked in the store, and immediately the grumpy old man who evidently owns the store walked out to say “Let’s calm down, girls.” It wasn’t much, but the fact that THAT was our greeting into the store says a whole lot. He had walked out of his little closet office, where he obviously stares at the cameras, as soon as we walked in. We asked a couple questions, but with the nasty taste in my mouth, I decided not to patronize the business. After reading the other negative reviews, it seems this man needs help. He is clearly a very unhappy person, who also doesn’t have much of a brain. He actually believed all the non-sense about covid, according to past reviews. As unvaccinated, healthy, freedom-loving Americans, I am pleased that I didn’t give this man a dime. But I will pray for you, sir. Maybe one day you’ll see the light.

Stopped in today to buy some bait to go surf fishing. Ended up buying two rods which they kindly setup for us and gave us great tips on how to fish in the park.

Nice selection of clothing and fishing/outdoor equipment. Good location and easy parking. On the north side of the main road.

My family and I have been visiting St. George Island for some 50 years now. I can't say enough good things about this store, it's owners and great clothing, fishing and beach life stuff...all the highest quality you will find in the area. We LOVE visiting every year.

My family and I were on vacation for a week and on the first day I decided to rent a stand-up paddle board. Since the difference between a 1 day and a 5 day rental was only $50 I decided to rent the board for 5 days. On the first day I ended up falling off the board and injuring my ankle and knee (which resulted in a trip to the ER and me on crutches). The accident was completely my fault and had nothing to do with the store not providing adequate instruction (because they did provide this). The next day (exactly 22.5 hours later) I hobbled into the shop with my wife to return the board and see if they would be kind enough to refund me the $50 difference (since I had the board less than 1 day and not the 5 I had rented it for). I was told they could not issue any refunds (apparently their machine wouldn’t allow it) and they would give me a $25 store credit. The woman literally said to me (and I quote), “it’s not my fault you got injured.”After more discussion I was able to get a $50 store credit, again no refund though. I should also mention my nephew spent $80 on fishing tackle at the same time I had rented the board.I have never left a review in my life, but this place rubbed me the wrong way and I felt compelled to do so. To the rude woman who would not refund me, she is correct… it was not her fault I injured myself. But who says that?! My family had spent almost $200 in their store in less than a 24 hour period and they couldn’t refund me $50? Extremely rude and a good business doing the right thing would refund the difference in the unused board rental.
