Transported by EMTs to SMH ER Trauma after serious car accident. Placed and left in hallway; never put into an ER Room. Seldom saw a nurse much less a doctor. Lot's of staff roaming around, no one taking care of the trauma patients. This was like third world medical care. In Sarasota we should be embarrassed that this is the best we have to offer in trauma care. God help us!

Amazing hospital. Had An amazing ER doctor who ordered the right tests and diagnosed a serious illness quickly. Got me admitted and into surgery with a specialist very quickly. ICU staff was amazing. Special shout out to nurse Mark. Dr Mayer with neuro surgery was amazing and compassionate. The entire experience here was outstanding. Feel very thankful to have landed in the right hospital.

I recently had the unfortunate problem of an overwhelming set of diabetic blisters. They eventually became huge open sores encompassing 2/3 of my shin area. Very scary. I sought help from the Sarasota Hospital Wound Care Unit. Over a three week period, these wonderful nurses took care of me which resulted in today being wound free. Coming from a medical family of doctors and nurse, I cannot say enough for the care and skill that these people gave to me. They are indeed the best of the best. Beginning with Elizabeth Cardenas, who first treated me, to Kevin Hardcastle, Christina Lares, Gisela Moran, Linda Stevens and their super Manager Sandy Davis they performed their spilled tasks with true concern and compassion. I will be forever grateful for their care. God bless them and the entire Sarasota Medical Community. Robert Urbont

I have always been a fan of Sarasota Memorial. I feel like I can trust them due to their professionalism, compassion, and knowledge. We live in Bradenton and travel to Sarasota Memorial for our needs and emergencies; this includes their urgent care clinics that are throughout our area. However, I was disappointed with our last emergency visit. There were many times that my daughter had to be disconnected from her IV to use the restroom and it took “forever” to get the attending nurse to unhook her. Once my daughter returned, it would take no less than 30 minutes and up to an 1 hour for the nurse to return and hook her back to the machines. She had a major kidney infection, was running a fever, had severe pain in the kidneys, high heart rate and blood pressure - the point I am making is that she was uncomfortable and also needed to stay hooked up to the machine. I felt there was no compassion or concern. I remember telling my daughter to just urinate in the bed because I was so frustrated for her. Nonetheless, there were three staff - maybe nurses - (not doctors - they were awesome) were making fun of many other patients. They did nothing to keep the conversation quiet. It made me so upset and very sad for the patients. I have never been disappointed or frustrated with SMH until last night, and for this I may give it one more change, otherwise, my family will be going somewhere else.

I was a patient at SMH in August of 2023, and was hospitalized for 2.5 days. I received a correspondence from my insurance carrier that my claim was being denied, and that my responsibility would be upwards of $60,000. I contacted the SMH billing Team immediately, and spoke with Nancy. She was very helpful, and advised me not to worry until I received a bill from SMH. The billing team did a phenomenal job, and continuously resubmitted and appealed my claim numerous times. The patient responsibility went from $60,000 to $15,000 to over $8,000, and finally, to $0, when the full amount was covered by my insurance carrier. I am so grateful to the SMH Billing Team for all of the work they did to get my claim approved. Thank you!! -Sarah Alper

Just the best hospital experience and stay anyone could ask for. Professional, hard working, kind, responsive. We are so lucky to have this hospital and staff near by.

The worst hospital!!!! My daughter had an allergic reaction at school and the ambulance took her to SMH and they sent me a bill from the ER for $3,500 and I called MULTIPLE times trying to get a itemized bill because all it said on the bill was ER. They wouldn’t give me and itemized bill of the services that were provided, and they all talked to me like I’m an idiot trying to tell me “ER VISIT” is an itemized bill! I KNOW what a hospital itemized bill is and what it’s NOT! They called me every single day trying to collect the bill and each time I asked and they couldn’t give me an itemized bill! But they were willing to give me a discount and for me to pay $1,800! Are you giving me a discount because you overcharged me for services that were never provided??? I need to see what I’m paying for! The medication charge was Pennies! Under $50 so for what service am I supposed to pay $3,500 for??? Are doctors making $500 an hour?? And bed rental is 1k?AND I GOT A SEPERATE BILL FROM THE ER DOCTOR! for $462!! Like what in the actual hell!Is that not included in the ER bill???I know people who have gone here in ER and their bill was $800! $1000 with scans ! But for an allergic reaction shot and cream I’m paying over 3k??The billing department is HORRIBLE!!!Now I got a collection letter! And I can’t pay $3,500!I’m not including i have a fire department bill and ambulance bill!Hospitals are just FRAUDS!!! I am beyond upset and don’t know what to do!

I don't know if anyone in this hospital remembers me, Jeffrey Marlow? I was being wheeled down a hallway in a gurney on my birthday, August 28, 2023 with hospital staff telling me Happy birthday and asking me what was the last thing I remember. I was in ICU for about two weeks then recovery for about two weeks. My body was all purple when I arrived from Arcadia where I used to live. The nurses were wonderful and I'm sorry that I had to keep calling them on the nurses call button but I was out of it most of the time I was there. Half the time I think I was hallucinating because of my injuries. I was on dialysis for about two weeks until my kidneys started to function again. I was bedridden the whole time I was there. I just wanted to let the staff there know if any of them remembered me that I am in Clewiston Nursing home in Clewiston, Florida and that I am doing much better and I am walking now using a walker from therapy here. A lot has happened to me since August 28, 2023 but I wanted to let the nurses at Sarasota Memorial Hospital know that I am doing better than I was when I woke up being rolled down a hallway in a gurney that first day.

After my surgeries it took FIVE HOURS to even get a room. I told my nurses that I was feeling nauseous and they didn’t seem to care. The pain medication they given me DOES NOT WORK and they don’t care about that either!I’ve always loved SMH, but I can’t wait to get out of here!!!!!!

Not sure about the rest of the hospital but the Admission & Transfer Center/ER overflow (formerly Labor & Delivery/Maternity) is the absolute worst! For numerous reasons, I've spent a lot of time in various hospitals over the years and never experienced the cluelessness, ignorance, lack of follow up and lack of all around basic patient care. Bears repeating - the worst!

I Came here due to an incident at my job and I've been waiting in the ER since 3pm and as I write this it is now 930pm. I Asked several times how long will my wait be and kept being told i was next and have yet to be seen. I asked to speak to a supervisor and the nurse at the desk said "Are you sure you want to speak to Brittany because im sure shes a lot meaner than I am. Crazy about it, I'm A Nurse Myself And I Would Never Had Said That To A Patient. This Hospital I've Always Said Was The Best But After Tonight, This Hospital Is Not Up To That Standard. The Lack Of Customer Service And Rude Workers. This Beyond Me.
