Nice Art. I wish it was more of a selection! I love how the associates were informative but it was a bit uncomfortable when someone is following behind you throughout the museum ( that made it a bit challenging to enjoy the art).

Attended opening of Skyway 2024 exhibit at this beautifully appointed museum. Very pleasantly impressed with quite a variety of clever, creative works.
Lovely reception and facility. Like Ringling, the Sarasota Art museum dedicated excellent viewing spaces to this exhibit.
It put MFA of St Pete to shame, which opened their Skyway exhibits recently. Unlike the other major museums, MFA squeezed their minimal Skyway selections into assorted rooms. You had to hunt for the Skyway works surrounded by all the other pieces which were not moved to accommodate thier works. It was like a treasure hunt. MFA seemed to be 'tolerating' vs showcasing the work. Puzzling?
After seeing MFA's uncoordinated mess, one can't help but be dazzled by what Sarasota Art Museum and Ringling have done to beautifully display their selections of very impressive pieces.
I highly recommend seeing this exhibit!

$15 for fifteen minutes. The second floor was closed so there were only 2 exhibits on the third floor. One was balls of sticks and string hanging from the ceiling with orchestral music playing and one was a bunch of shapes cut from colored acrylic.
The bistro was insanely overpriced. $38 for 2 grilled cheese and 2 drinks. This was my first and last visit to this “museum”

Can I have my $15 back please?
Where is the art?
The “museum” has only about 5 mediocre works in their permanent exhibit, and just two gallery spaces. One of the galleries was closed for a new installation, so our admission got us into a small, boring, display of 3 wire sculptures representing the earth and sky, accompanied by a 20-minute long “musical representation of a rocket launch”. Really? Thbbbbbb!
The wax tree in the picture was cool, but it was the only thing I saw that qualified as art.

Extremely small for a museum. Advertised online as free but upon arrival was charged $15 per person. Entire second floor was under install so there was just 3rd floor. Consisted of two small rooms. Entire visit done after about ten minutes. Don't recommend

Came here for free Sunday. Thankfully it was free because we were in a out and in twenty minutes. I feel terrible as we love supporting the arts, but people should know to expect not to be here for long. They had some activities for kids, but we are kid free. The art exhibit itself was a single level, one room, with a handful of sculptures. We were a little disappointed, as we expected to see more than one artist exhibit.

We visited the Sarasota Art Museum on 3/9/2024. In reality our intention was to visit the museum of art in the Ca’d’Zan complex but the gps took us to this
one located in a separate complex . While I’m not a fan of contemporary art it was still interesting and we enjoyed the different exhibitions. The staff overseeing each of these exhibitions was friendly and informative. We also decided on eating at the Bistro
that is part of the museum.
Unfortunately, our experience was somewhat tarnished by the waiters in the Bistro of the museum. The young waiters there were quite rude to say the least. Apparently they’ve not received the proper training to serve the clientele. We ordered a salad, two tomato soups, a sandwich, and a biscuit. We waited for a good 20 minutes before the food came to our table. One of the young waiters brought part of our order but the biscuit was missing. I kindly reminded him that we had also ordered a biscuit just to make sure it has not been forgotten. The waiter said to us that he knew something was missing but that he only had “two hands” and that he’ll be back with the rest of the order. We ignored his comment and did not say anything else when he came back with the rest. Everything’s tasty except for the tomato bisque. These soups were so salty that after a few spoonfuls we had to stop eating them. I brought it to the attention of the other waiter behind the counter. I asked him if this might have been the batch from where he served our soups. The waiter said that all the soup batches were the same and implied that perhaps I was exaggerating that the soups were salty. He rudely stated “to each his own”! I told him that I had brought it to his attention out of concern and by any means I was seeking a refund for my order. He couldn’t care less and continued with his rude attitude of take it or leave it! Minutes after same waiter came back to our table with another item I had ordered. My husband politely, mentioned to him about the rude comment he made to me. He then said he didn’t mean anything by it and offered us a refund. We clearly repeated to him that the intention was for him to pass the information to the cook so he could remediate the situation and that we’re not asking for a refund. At that point we left the Bistro. We wouldn’t ever go back eat at the Bistro even if we were to visit the museum again. And one thing I’m very happy about this whole situation is that I stopped my husband from leaving these two entitled, untrained and very rude young waiters a tip! They certainly didn’t deserve it!

The Sky exhibit was phenomenal, and it was great to walk the building again post reconstruction. It still maintains the class and charm it always had, and the presence of thousands of students like myself who passed through the halls were felt. If those halls could speak...

Really sad how your in a historic building. And yet it’s been almost completely stripped of its original architecture. This could be an old mall. Very meh on the art side as well.

This contemporary gallery in the beautifully refurbished historical high school is a treasure for Sarasota. Only $15 admission, spent 2 hours enjoying 3 separate exhibitions. Numerous employees offered interesting conversation about the works, one even attended high school there! As an artist and glass lover, I was enthralled by the Richard and Barbara Basch collection. This is a must see for glass lovers! Thank you Barabara for sharing it. I was told more of her collection is at the Ringling college gallery, where these will return Feb 11. Also had lunch at the Bistro, very good. Will be back soon.

A beautiful museum with a contemporary exhibition that is continually changing.
