The best place ever. The cottages are not there anymore as far as I can tell from youtube videos. I feel so fortunate to have experienced Old Florida at The Waterside Inn. The raspberry cottage will be missed terribly.

Beware of booking if this place reopens after the hurricane. My parents booked a 10 night stay before the hurricane hit for late January and they have yet to refund, or make any communications with my parents regarding their $4k trip. There is no phone number to get a hold of them, and they have their comments section on facebook locked. You can send a private message, but they do not follow through with communications even though they have read your messages. It's horrible what happened to their place; however it's also horrible to take someone's hard earned money for a service they didn't end up providing.

Can’t recommended the Waterside Inn enough. It is a great location - close enough to Sanibel’s amenities and far enough that the traffic isn’t bad.The property feels like Florida 40 years ago. It’s not fancy, but it’s clean and comfortable. The beach is full of shells and not super busy. The property has chairs you can take on the beach and bask in the sun.The cottage format makes it a great solution for families or groups. One thing that’s surprising is that in November - February you can see the sunrise and sunset from the same spot on the beach. And - the gulf coast sunsets rarely disappoint. In short - if you dress up for dinner and need fancy amenities, this isn’t the place for you. But if you like a comfortable, clean and easy place to be - you can’t go wrong here.

The cottages are very outdated with window air conditioner that doesn't stop at the set temperature but it is right in front of the beach. There's a small pool. The ocean is full of sand dollars and sea turtles do lay eggs on the beach. The towels are very good and they do give you a separate beach towel. It is very close to the market and restaurants. Location is excellent.

Variety of accommodations directly on the beach. Very narrow beach which is not in their control. Small, quiet pool. Beware: arrive before 1pm and you’ll be asked to leave the property citing “policy”. When we said this policy wasn’t posted on the website or in the welcome email, we were told they have no way to fix those things but that’s it’s been their policy for decades. Another beware: one car per room and they will literally tow you. Pool was closed for almost the entirety of our stay due to tree trimming, and when we asked for a discount or something comparable, we were told they have literally no way of altering our payment, offering discounts, or voiding payments. When asked who we could speak to, we were told “literally nobody”, the owners are out of state and don’t care. Hmmm. Not sure what to believe but you’d best be careful in case something were to happen: there’s no one to help you.

We love old Florida architecture with bright fun colors right on the beach. We pray the hotel is still standing after Ian hit the island. Prayers you are ok and we plan on coming back. ???

We love having Sanibel to ourselves as locals in the off season. Jeff was working the front desk when we arrived for our staycation. Jeff was so nice and helpful and gave outstanding customer service. Our efficiency was perfect for what we needed and if you are looking for an inexpensive stay, don't overlook this place. Bikes can be taken out for free and they supply you with Beach chairs and umbrellas if you forget to bring your own. It's not the Taj Mahal but we didn't mind that and it served our needs perfectly. Will stay there again in the future.

This is a beautiful, peaceful place. It's right on the beach and there are lots of shells and sea turtle nesting areas so watch for the turtles. Rooms were clean and pool was clean and nice. Now when you make a reservation if you want a certain room or close to the beach, putting it in the notes section of reservation gets ignored and your told you must call to request it even if those rooms are left empty.Next, they have a little sign to hand on the door for stay over guest. One side says do not disturb, the other side says maid service requested. It does not matter if you put it out or not because they will go in your room, we knew because bed was maid and clean towels, which is fine but if the maid service requested sign is NOT up then there is no reason for them to go in your room. There is a bunny that lives on premises, we seen him below our balcony and watched him go home but I won't post where it's at so no one can bother the little guy. There are great restaurants around. It costs you six dollars to get over to this island. I would suggest you bring everything you need because there are little stores but everything is expensive on the island. The no- see-ums are bad there and you need a deet spray. We bought the spray they sell on the island which is oily and they just stick to it.We had a great time though and relaxed.

I Did stay here one night. I always try different cottage homes and areas to see how the experience is. My check in was at 3 pm. My room was not ready till 3.30 pm. The room was semi clean I found sand in the floor after my first walk in with no sandals. I always leave them outside. Other than that all was clean and organized. They will provide towels. you need to return with keys or get charge $10. You will need to pay at 21.30 charge additional to the room price for cleaning. The distance to the beach is a good one but is not as private when you have everyone in the same spot trying to get the best area to camp. I did however enjoyed how easy is to walk back to the cottage. People are nice and helpful. My units front window wouldn't open. But I was able to slide it and had some light. Not a biggie. Great place!

Everything super clean. Special attention to the guest. You don't need to ask for anything extra, they anticipate your needs by putting extra items in the room, from plastic bags and laundry detergent, to pillows, blankets and towels. Everything you need for your stay on the beach is included, and free !!! Your own stuff is also allowed. Office closes at 8 pm, but if you arrive after 8 pm, like us, they leave the key with you name and room number in the mail box. Amazing!!! Definitely, we will come back!!!

Our room was bug infested! 50 to 100+ large ants that came out with the lights off and fell on our faces while we were sleeping! Horrifying!Complained to the front desk in the morning and their reply was you must expect bugs on a barrier island! Bugs maybe, infestation, NO! We were supposed to stay 3 nights. Checked out after the first night and no refund of unused nights was permitted! Out of date style and bug infested room. Do not stay here!
