I found two stray cats in Port Charlotte. My English is not good, so I asked my cousin to call for me and ask if they could take them. My cousin didn’t know exactly where I found the two stray cats. She only knew that I worked in Bradenton. She thought I found them in Bradenton. The woman in the shelter today was very mean, rude, and didn't listen to my explanation. She just slammed the door and walked away. When I rang the doorbell again, she ignored me and didn't listen to my explanation at all. If they are stray cats from Bradenton, why do I need to drive so far to bring them to this shelter? I can just take them directly to the shelter in Bradenton, but they are not stray cats from Bradenton at all. Today this woman Don't listen to my explanation. Even if you don't take Bradenton's stray cats, there's no need to have such a bad attitude. But her attitude was extremely bad. The shelter in Bradenton must not take stray cats from Port Charlotte like them. I don’t know what to do with them now. I can't keep these two stray cats. I don't think they can take good care of the animals in a shelter like this.

James was most helpful in showing me the available dogs. I did not find one today but I am certain he will be able to find the fur baby I'm looking for. Very helpful and courteous!

I adopted a 5 year old special needs cat from AWL of Port Charlotte FL. I was told upfront that she was just antisocial & a loaner by nature. I loved her from the moment I saw her & planned to give her a good home for the remainder of her life. She had so many more issues than originally stated (tremors/neuro issues, vision problems, hiding/fear, etc.) all of which I didn't piece together until just over 2 months later. I really just thought she had been mistreated from previous owners & just needed lots of love in order to learn to trust. Then she stopped eating; I took her in for a check up only to find out she was end-stage FeLV. Sadly, she did not respond to treatment & I was told she only had a few days left, if that, before she would start suffering. I had to make the horrible decision to euthanize her. Come to find out, AWL hadn't tested her since 2022...this should have never happened. No one should have to suffer such a heartbreak, let alone the significant monetary expense involved with treating this poor baby when they could have prevented it by routine vaccinations/periodic checks & follow-ups (I even had to take her back to get 2 diff vax's that they didn't catch were expired before adopting her out). I am still waiting for a call back. Pls check your kittens/cats if you've adopted any from them, especially in the last 2-6 months. RIP Trixie!!

I surrendered my dog and was told this animal rescue league was a no kill shelter. When I drove over to the shelter to drop off some of my dogs things we were informed he was euthanized. This shelter to my knowledge never accepted him after I was told they have to because of the contract they have with the town. The person who talked to my significant other was very rude, wouldn’t take my dogs things as a donation and slammed the door shut. This place needs an overhaul and respectful people should be hired. I gave one star but they actually deserve 0 stars.

As an executive in a company I found it unfortunate that after filling out the adoption form there is a requirement to buy pet insurance. I have had pets my whole life and always take care of them out of pocket. I make plenty of money. This might be why there are so many adoptable pets at this facility. Requiring pet insurance will be a barrier for many families and unfortunate for the adoptable pets.

This place is horrible, they don’t care about the animals nor the homes they go too as long as they are making money they aresatisfied. Taking people’s animals away from them, and adopting them out before they even get the chance to come up there to claim them. The people that work here are rude, they have no respect. Any time someone answers the phone, it’s already like you are a burden for calling them. I completely understand that shelters are full, and people are stressed but leaves them with no excuse as to the way this place acts.

I went to check on a dog that I saw as a stray. I went to get information and found out that the owner surrendered her. She was not up for adoption because she is a senior dog. I was very sad and couldn't understand why the owner could do that to a dog that he has had since a puppy. At least she will live out her life at a rescue place. My heart is sad. I came home and hugged my babies.

Rescued two male kittens here from the annual Kitten Showers, one from this past year and one from 2020. He came with a gift basket that included treats, wet food, 3 toys, a adorable travel water/food bowl combo and sample of his previous diet for smooth transition (brilliant idea!❤️) The cats are absolute joys to have and be around. They're both affectionate, playful and are easily handled. Pictured is Pup-pup (aka Miso now) who is a 6 m/o from a litter of 3 that was owner surrendered. My previous is Jaxon who came from an identical background.Fair pricing for the animals, especially with their shots, neuter, preventative care for pests and both boys had a clean bill of health. For the previous review of the litter of kittens who had respiratory illness post adoption, the facility makes you sign a waiver that says you acknowledge there may be possible health issues present they are not aware of or that may arise later on."Adopt, if you can't adopt, foster. If you can't foster, volunteer. If you can't volunteer, donate. If you can't donate, spread awareness."hope to volunteer here one day to give thanks for all they do and to assist with giving these precious beings the love and care they so deserve!

The staff is helpful and very friendly. We went to drop off donations and they helped get things out of the car. The facility was clean and inviting. Will definitely go there when ready to adopt another rescue. In the meantime, the gratitude I was shown, means I will donate in the future
