Went in for eye exam with my son got glasses for both. Everything was wrong called went back was rechecked. They changed prescription for both of us. My son's is fine. Mine still gives me fillings of swimming. I can't wear my glasses. Don't know what to do. Have to wait till next year for my insurance to cover new eye exam and glasses and still have to add money out of pocket. It was a waste. I spent good money for glasses I still can't wear.

They double-charged me for a procedure, and I notified them of it. I even produced documentation of the charge. I called several times and even went to the office, but I never received my money back. This happened last year. On top of that, they messed up my eyeglasses and had to redo my prescription.

My ordeal started on 25 August 2023. I had an eye exam and ordered new lenses, left my Maui Jim glasses there for the replacements. I started calling periodically to see if my glasses were ready. The beginning of October I was notified the lenses were in but during the installation the frame was broken. I was offered a replacement at no cost and new lenses were ordered. A couple week later they were ready for pickup. Picked up the glasses but the nose pads were missing and they didn’t have any to fit, had to order them and would call me when they arrived. Now frustrated I wanted to wear my new glasses so I manufactured a set of temporary nose pads and put them on. Something wasn’t right and I couldn’t see things clearly. I went in to get the lenses checked just to find out I wasn’t measured accurately the first time so another set of lenses had to be ordered. It’s now 12 December and still waiting and not able to wear my new glasses. I’ll be going somewhere else next time.

Excellent staff from the minute you walk in the door! Check in was easy. Nurses and techs were great and got me laughing. My 1st of more to come regularly. Dr Byers was my dr and she was so patient with me and so thorough.

Waited 2 months for an appointment came in filled out the paperwork then the desk ladies told me they just stopped taking my insurance. I have the Fed Employees top end vision insurance and they just stopped participating in that network. A phone call should have been made - they took my insurance information when they made my appointment 2 months ago. Very unapologetic about wasting my time. Would not recommend this establishment to anyone. With Tyndall and the Navy Base here how do you stop taking the Federal Employees insurance plans? They took my plan last month when my daughter had a full exam and contact fitting. They should have notified me that they no longer took my insurance before wasting my time.

Open til 5 according to their voice mail. Started calling at 4:45 pm and at 5 pm they still hadn’t answered the phone.

Office staff never answers the phone. Have to leave repeated messages over several days asking for call back. Waited 3 months for a 10 minute renew-prescription appointment. Then wanted to order contacts, called 5 times, no call back.Hate taking my business to the chains, but they answer on the first ring.

I am always impressed with my visit - everything went smoothly, the people were very pleasant to work with, no insurance issues, and Dr. Byers was fantastic!

Had to wait 2 months to get a appointment. They called me to get my insurance card information two weeks before appointment. When I arrived and filled out the paperwork, they told me that I would have to pay 40,% of the eye exam, and they did not cover the eye wear.When I made the appointment I told them what insurance I had. Why they did not tell me this then. My insurance covers 100% of exam and $500 of eye wear. Now I have to wait another 2-3 months for another appt they don't even deserve a 1 star!!!!

I saw Dr Byers 10 years ago and absolutely loved her. But they have some of the rudest people I’ve ever interacted with working the front desk. I waited 3 months for my appointment, and was told that I had canceled it which I didn’t. Now I am having to wait another month and a half for another appointment. No apology, no acknowledgement, being treated like I’m a complete nuisance

Despite numerous calls for over two months to correct a billing issue, no one in this office put a note on my account. By the time someone finally did put a note on it (Sparkle) the billing dept says it is past 90days (ignoring the first two months of calls) so there is no way to correct it. Basically if you just fail to do the right thing the patient can just suck it up.Over that same time we tried to get our new prescriptions for glasses & contacts. Finally the same person who finally put a note on my account took the five extra minutes out of her time (Sparkle again) and emailed my prescription. Why was it so difficult for anyone else? They do sell glasses and contacts. Perhaps they were hoping I'd buy from them.My wife's prescription is not correct. Instead of getting it precise, she felt rushed. Felt like they settled for a "close enough" prescription so as to not go over her appointment time. Thank you Sparkle for being awesome though! You were the brightest spot in our experience.

Not Happy! My wife and I went to the AEC on 6/15/2023, everything went fine with the eye exam and we opted to order glasses. We paid half of the balance for both of us on 6/15/2023 (Thursday), We went back to pay the remaining balance on Friday, they were closed. We went back to the office on Monday 6/19/2023 and paid the remaining balance. Later that evening we were balancing our check book and found that the balance we had paid was $85.00 over the invoice price of the glasses. I called the office the next morning and inquired about the extra money. We were told it was 10% additional because the lens were so expensive. I told them that was not acceptable it was not what the original invoice stated. I canceled the glasses and asked that our money be returned. Today, 6/28/2023 (Wednesday) after numerous phone calls I was able to talk to the owner of the company and that was a waste of time. We are being charged a restocking fee for both sets of glasses, $150.00 for mine and 30% for my wife's. We were told are glasses would be ready for pick up in 10 to 12 days. The owner said they ordered the glasses on 6/15/2023 and mine had come in on 6/17/2023 which was prior to the cancel date. Normally a consumer has 3-days to cancel, the owner says no, that we have to pay the restock fee. Being on a fixed income, we have to count for every dollar especially in today's economy. We believe this is unacceptable and recommend not doing business with Academy of Eye Care and Amanda Byers.
