Extremely compassionate Doctor. Without establishing with this vet office at all, I reached out to them the morning they opened back up after hurricane Milton. They got me in immediately at 11 am due to my older ferret having a severe seizure the night before. They welcomed us with open arms and were so gentle and informative. The doctor kept it honest with us that the best course of action would be to put him to sleep and was super caring throughout the appointment. The doctor was very educated and experienced even with being young, its really inspiring to know how knowledgeable she is. Finding a doctor that treats "exotic" pets is already rare. However, to find one so incredibly empathetic and educated is impressive.
After making him comfortable and putting him to sleep they respectfully gave their condolences and gently informed us of the next course of action. After we got home, a few days later we received a card in the mail of sympathies for our loss.
The staff and the doctor was incredible and treated us as if we have been established for years, just on our first appointment. When the time comes we will be formally establishing other pets here. Top notch care, and honest compassionate people.

I really want to thank Dr. Schroder and the staff at the center. They're always so helpful and caring whether I'm calling with follow-up questions or trying to schedule a last minute appointment when my budgie is really struggling with his health. Despite being a busy office, I always feel like my budgie is given proper attention and I really appreciate how knowledgeable and empathetic Dr. Schroder is. You can tell she really cares about her patients and takes the time to help pet owners make informed decisions about their animal companions. Thank you all so much!! ❤️

I have good news to report. We brought our Amazon parrot Mieko in on 25 June, and the prognosis was not good. But since then she has been eating just about everything we can feed her, and she is actually gaining weight! She is also more lively and interactive, and stronger as well - she is climbing about her cage a lot easier.
She is still very underweight, but not by as much as she used to be. And she is eating right now!

We had such a great experience! Dr. Murphy took such great care of our little one. The team was great with after care check-ins and snuggled our little Alfie after his surgery.

This place gives me a sense that I'm free to travel and that my African Grey will be well taken care of so that I don't have to worry. Had our first avian examination here a few months ago and was super impressed with how thorough they are. I thought I was fairly strict with my avian husbandry, but damn they are SUPER strict!! Hahaha. They provide what they feel is best for the animals. I appreciate that they're trying to educate everyone for the benefit of the birds. Luckily I passed with flying colors and was told I'm doing a great job. They are clearly used to handling parrots! I've never boarded my Grey before, he's been with me four years and he's either always traveled with me or I've had a family member stay with him. But now that I live here in FL and only have 1 other family member, I'm going to need another option - and this is a GREAT one! All the employees here seemed super sweet. My guy boarded here for 9 days and I was so worried about him being in a foreign place with overwhelming noises and chaos - but he really seemed to enjoy it! They were awesome about taking him out of the cage a few times a day to let him stretch and feel some freedom. He seemed to really enjoy being here and bonded with one of the girls who spent a lot of time with him. They sent me a couple pics/videos while he was there. They played some music, he got to "talk" and compare sounds with several other birds (including several other Greys!) who were there at the same time. While he was super happy to see me when i picked him up, I could tell that he was totally at ease during his time there. No signs of anxiety at all!! Yaaaayy!!! They even gave him a cute little report card, which i think is an adorable little touch. The office is easy to find, right on 19. It's bright and clean and friendly. They have a couple "house birds" in the main entry who are always fun to say Hi to. My only complaints are: - 1) that the cage he has to be in is fairly small and doesn't have normal perches (incubator), since he's fully flighted and I'm not willing to clip him. I wish they had some other larger options. But the fact that they take him out several times per day makes up for it - 2) they do charge much higher prices than other local boarding options, but again i think that comes down to how much time they're actually spending handling the birds - 3) They are not open on Sundays, and have a small window on Saturdays to pick-up/drop-off, so what this meant for me is that on my last trip i only should've had to board him 7 days but based on their timing I was forced to board for 9 days (which is also a significant additional cost, paying for 2 extra days that are unnecessary from MY side). Having said all this - I'll be back! I think they are great, and i appreciate the care that they put into the boarders. I also appreciate having a sweet staff. Definitely highly recommended!!

I brought my 2 yr old Quaker Parrot to Dr. Murphy. I just wanted a basic exam and to gain knowledge on how to best care for our new addition. He was so kind and knowledgeable. I really appreciate how he took the time to educate me on care. He went over feeding (we're switchingto pellets) , and housing and entertaining our bird. He educated me on proper nutrition. I never felt pressured to receiving anything I did not want. They gave me a tour of the back. I saw the bird hotel, for future use. I couldn't have imagined a better experience. Everyone was so kind in the office.

Unless you want your animals to die don’t bring your pets here!!!! I’ve been a customer of this vet for many years and first hand witnessed the pathetic care they offer while robbing you in return and it’s a straight joke! If you care about your pet bring them anywhere else!

This office doesnt care about animals unless they make money from them. This office is in a plaza directly behind my house and they walk their SICK dogs behind my fence. This not only agitates my dogs, but all 5 of my dogs over the past 23 years have gotten diseases passed on to them that I have to take my dogs to a different vet to get taken care of. I have asked numerous times for them not to walk diseased animals to urinate on my fence and pass along whatever ailment they have to my dogs. I have called Zoning, the Health department, and even Animal control, and here's a surprise, no Government agency want's to do their job. They are horrible people, loud and rude yelling behind my house to each other across the parking lot, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Doesnt matter if I have people of family over for a Party, they still do it, with no care for me, my kids or my dogs. This office has been the only thing bad about living here, and they have done this for 23 years.

We have been taking our fur babies here for nearly 30 years; birds, dachshunds and cats. Always been appreciative of the care and maybe not so happy with the cost. But as any pet loving owner knows, we will do anything for our best friend. Recently our 12 y.o. dachshund had paralysis in his rear legs. A scary thing for any pet loving family. We heard MRI, Neurologist, and possible surgery. We talked to the vet about alternatives and we decided to seek chiropractic care (sort of against all advice.) Within 3 visits to the chiropractor, our dog was walking! Our advice is listen to the vets opinion but don't be afraid to seek alternative medicine. We sure are glad that we did! ? ?

I moved to St Petersburg from California with Toto and I was looking for the best avian vet in Florida. And I found him!! Dr. Joel Murphy is so knowledgeable, caring, and thoughtful. During our first visit, he went over his diet and history. He gave me excellent recommendations on Toto's diet, probiotics, and herbal supplements. I don't like to travel much because I don't like leaving Toto since caring for a bird can be complicated. Luckily, Dr Murphy offers boarding for birds and I have left Toto with him during a work trip. Dr Murphys staff went above and beyond, they sent me pictures and email updates each day which calmed my nerves. And per Toto's report card, he didn't miss me while I was away . Which honestly made me very happy and made me feel secure that Toto was being treated well. Toto loves Dr. Murphy and we are so lucky to have found him!
