Great time at Camp La-No-Che! We did the Webelo to Scout transition weekend! Everyone running it did a great job! Hope this event continues; I have another scout I would like to experience the event!

I went as a kid maybe around 2005ish? In Summer. I definitely did *not* realize what I had signed up for. There are lots of activities, but expect oppressive humidity, heat (one person had to be medically evacuated for heat stroke), mud, standing water, floating rafts of fire ants, endless biting insects (expect them to chew through your mosquito net and then get trapped in there with you), frequent rain and depressing overcast skies in Summer (It's Florida.), tents that only tie shut (meaning local wildlife WILL enter your tent at night! (as happened to me -- woke up face-to-face with a racoon, who then proceeded to eat all of my trailmix from my footlocker)), and more.We ended-up having to throw out all of my clothes from the footlocker after I got home, because they smelled *awful* after festering in there, and washing them couldn't get the smell out.I get that Scout camps are supposed to be out in nature, and that this means that you should expect things to be a little rough -- that's part of the experience. But if you are considering Camp Lanoche, please realize what you are getting into! You don't need to camp in a subtropical swamp to go camping. The people working at the camp can be the best in the World (They're not.), but that won't change the fact that it's central Florida and everything that implies. Central Florida is a miserable place to be. Please don't put your scouts through this; drive another day to north Georgia or something and camp somewhere with a decent climate. Or camp somewhere along the coast, where the swamp has been drained (for better or worse) and you at least have a sea breeze. If you *do* want to scout in a swamp for some reason, go to south Florida and wade through the Everglades; it's actually a much more pleasant experience than Lanoche (I've done both.): the water keeps you cool, and the nature is MUCH less ugly. (Maybe I'm just biased because I'm from south Fla; but also probably not.) Big Cypress swamp >>>> Camp Lanoche Hell. Crucially: After you're done wading through the swamp, *drive home*; don't spend the night in it.There *is* one good reason to go to Lanoche, though: if you're preparing your kid to go to war in 'Nam. Welcome to the Jungle, baby.

Our girl troop lived this camp this week. Half of the girls had never been to a BSA summer camp and this was an amazing program. Keep up the good work for our youth!

Attend camps annual events, so much to do for all my Scouts and kids! Winter Camp and Summer Camp, as well as Cub Halloween have been highlights this year. Food and portions have gotten better since Covid, program area look fresh and vibrant. Young staff goes out of their way to fix any challenges when they arise.

Great Boy Scout camping! Kids may go and enjoy getting time with friends, learning and developing new skills and earn Merit Badges.

I attended la no che’s summer camp as a scout in the early 2000s. The facilities and staff could be the best in the world but all that cannot make up for the fact that Florida is downright unliveable in the summer heat. Most of my memories of my time at la no che are of sweating under a mosquito net in a three wall aderondak and being unable to sleep due to the sheer discomfort and heat.Since we lived near by, I also attended some winter programs at la no che, like my order of the arrow initiation. It’s a much nicer place in the cooler months. All in all, I would only recommend la no che to someone who is very tolerant of heat and bugs. If either of those items are an issue for you/your scout, it may be difficult to enjoy camp.

Update: After this the protocols were changed. They now send any scout that seems like they are sick straight to the health lodge and do a Covid test. If positive they send the scout home and keep their troop to their site. If infection is high they send the troop home. All staff wear their masks and take precautions. If there is an outbreak they close the camp until all everyone is in the clear. Glad they upped their game.My son volunteered at the most recent camp out and prior to I was told by their office that they needed to complete the medical covid screening. If they had not done so they could not enter the camp. On their site it stated that they would be required to wear masks while indoors and that staff could at anytime tell them to put a mask on. Well, I personally went to drop him off and NO ONE asked for his name to check if he had completed the covid pre screening. The troop came with all the health forms complete and NO ONE asked for them. Staff, volunteers and campers were everywhere with NO MASKS, including indoor areas. On Sunday I went to pick up my son and was not happy. No adult reminded the boys to wear their masks. I had to report an incident at the main office and I was the only person with a mask on. So all the “safety protocols” they talk about on their web site is just for show.

My Troop and I went to summer camp for many years and seen many improvements. I also attended for training such as Wood Badge as well as other BSA training and the Order of the Arrow. Staff was great but the dining hall needs improvement in the area of food and the kitchen staff need training in real cooking. The last time I camped there was 2008 before Ron Oats and others played politics and we parted company. Sad except God wanted me out of the falling BSA. God works all for His Glory!!!

Most of the one star reviews are from people with inappropriate tags/names. To add some authentication to mine I'm Jeff Webster. We drove over 600 miles with 20+ scouts to attend La No Che. This is hands down the worst scout camp we have attended! To begin, Covid protocol considered, there was no orientation, we were handed maps and schedules and led to our site. There was a brief orientation of the obvious here.Quick summary: No daily flag, no announcements, pretty much figure it out as you go. Adult staff was quick to correct youth for minor things while overlooking others. (You guys aren't 6ft. apart) Daily temp checkers were late to show up for the line at breakfast, only to have the older adult staff jump in front of the line as scouts approached. Leaders eat last! Camp director( at least I think that's who it was) was the quickest to talk to scouts as if they were petulant children!Camp food was average at best, portions were small. Area was clean. We were notified shortly before attending that we would have to provide our own sleeping accomodations instead of the camp provided canvas tent. Camp trading post was poorly stocked with previous years items that were only slightly marked down. I don't want a shirt from 2012 camp for a couple bucks off! Felt like shopping the clearance isle. Do better! Here are a few pros, youth staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Scenery was good. Camp buildings are nice. The wilderness survival instructor (Matthew ....?......) was great. That's about it. I waited a couple of days before writing this to see if time would ease my dissatisfaction but it hasn't.It's sad because we had high expectations and there is great potential for this location!

Relative Information: Attended Winter Camp Session 2 in 2020 in the midst of Covid 19. Traveled over 600 miles with 20+ scouts and leaders. I am the Scoutmaster of my Troop.Cons.Camp staff: Overall the staff was extremely cold, unfriendly and in some cases down right disrespectful. The majority had an attitude that resembled that scout in your unit who is being forced to participate by their parents...Grumbly and Cheerless. The camp director was the worst and the the leader in this grump parade. There were some exceptional/standout staffers(see positives below).Programming: There was no morning/evening flag ceremonies or campfire programs. Really???Pros:Camp was beautiful and had great facilities. We loved that the campsites had shelters and shower facilities in them. The Wilderness Survival volunteer was exceptional. He worked well with the scouts and was friendlyWith the adults as well. Chipper and Pam we helpful in swapping some classes.Aaron and his woodworking shop that provides pen making opportunities for adults is the star of this camp. Keep him around!

I went to la no che in mid June of 2017 for a week, i hated it, first off the tents were terrible and were tarps ziptied to pvc pipes held together with tape and Elmers school glue and the floors were grocery store crates. The pool was nice but the ticks were terrible and to make things worse hurricane cindy came through in the middle of the week. The facilities were for the most part in bad shape. I would not recommend going. To this day I call la no che hell.

For some background, I have been a participant at this camp for 5 summer camp sessions and have staffed for 2 summers and 1 winter. As a participant I loved camp. The morning flag after breakfast with the enthusiastic staff got everyone excited for their daily classes. The staff that taught my classes were always engaging and knowledgeable in their subjects. While some of the canvas tents weren’t in the best condition, the worst of them have been replaced with screened in Adirondacks and the better ones have been refurbished and are in good shape. As a staff member, the working and teaching experience is very rewarding. You get to meet new people from around (and even outside) the state to staff with. Also, being able to teach the campers new skills makes you a more confident leader and instructor.Overall I think that Camp La No Che is a great camp, and would greatly recommend it to anyone in the Florida Area

Great camping location with tons of activities. The views of the lake are awesome. The kids loved the swimming pool. Our swimming session was canceled due to thunderstorms; however, the staff rescheduled our session later that day to make sure the kids got in their swimming. They even opened the other pool to allow them to go down the pool slide. Thank you so much. The pool staff was truly helpful and went out of their way to make sure the kids got in some extra time.
