The director definitely hates men and enjoys trying to humiliate you. Pretty much everybody who shows up there for help is in crisis and she is extremely condescending. If you are forced to go there, give them as little information about yourself as possible and don't ask for help, other than a bed. Do not open up about any feelings. It will be used against you. I showed up in crisis and was treated with disdain. There was nothing Christian about how I was treated. I was retraumatized.

It's really not a friendly place the staff are kind of rude the case workers are kind of they act like it's coming out of their pocket they treat people out there like how are you going to get help when things that you need if you don't have the things that they want I kind of think they could do better to help people I wouldn't recommend this place

I think the Salvation Army does a great job overall, but it's the Ocala area that is lacking. Charity in general in Ocala is lacking.I began making calls to local charities last week on behalf of a homeless woman seeking shelter. Charities with wonderful-looking websites boasting images of the thousands they've helped. Except they're Adobe stock images. And when you call, the ONLY thing they do is offer you the number to Salvation Army. (Where do all those charitable donations go? To pay a receptionist to give you the number you can look up on Google?)It's been nearly 2 weeks of this cycle...Unfortunately the homeless woman seeking shelter "doesn't qualify for services at Salvation Army due to her background" which I was told is more than 10 years-old.I say find me the homeless addict on the streets that DOESN'T have a background of at least some type. But, it seems all the charities in Marion County are par for this type of situation. One must have a clean background and meet certain requirements to receive services anywhere.I see comments here from homeless elderly who are offered rentals they couldn't afford, and told to sell their few necessary belongings in order to afford "the rent" at certain other "charities."I see comments here from persons of marginalized groups who were denied assistance.I see comments from disabled individuals who were denied services due to disabilities (unable to walk through the heat of the day to make job applications.)I see someone in the comments here ended up on the receiving end of some pretty severe antisemitism. You told a Hasidic Jewish woman to remove her tichels, told her it was a "fashion statement" as though it were optional then tried to feed her pork? All I can say is, I think Salvation Army in general helps many but something must be done about Ocala.

I met a lot of women that needed Hod in their lives but I’m 73, normally they only take in people that can work. I’ve been retired 11 years due to a back injury. The Director there is all about the clad hammer. I forget sometimes and she can be very intimidating to say the least. She knew how much I get every month so she come up with a group home and I was to pay more than I could afford. So I had to turn it down. She put on her document I didn’t want it! I said that’s not what I sad. I said I can’t afford it. Then she said sell everything I have in storage. What happens when I move into my apartment and have nothing. That’s not making it easier for me, I also have no help. Then it’s her rules, my God. Even the Chaplin agreed those rules are old and need to be changed. One of the guards is on a power trip and every chance he got was disrespectful to me and some of the other people there. Tim. He stood outside one day smoking and blew his nose out without a tissue. Then he wiped it on his clothes and spreads germs. Discussing. The food was not good. Had pasta every other night with either chicken in it or peppers loaded down with so much salt!

Such a great place with beautiful people that are compassionate and very helpful. They've been here for years so they must be doing something right.

How is it that you are trying to get help with things you possibly need, yet the receptionist speaks to you with an attitude and down like she is a queen look here your job is to inform and direct people to where they need to be your job title doesn't entitle you to be mad you are to help and serve your community if you can't handle this get another job young people think that the older community can't speak I would hate for something to happen to you because of your mouth you still HAVE TO RESPECT YOUR ELDERS . That's in the Bible law.....maybe you should learn something.......never will I go there again

I'm not sure why these people are even in operation when they seem to never have any funds to help people. Every single time I've called they tell me they have no funds so what are they even doing, collecting donations and keeping them?

I held off on giving my review for quite a while now. I had my reasons. I just want to say thank you so much for this salvation army shelter. It's exactly what I needed at that moment it actually showed me some things about myself. The staff was very kind. Are they the best of conditions no place is perfect. The point is they are there to help people in need and that's exactly what they do. Some of the things I didn't understand as far as the way they did things. But it just wasn't meant for me to understand that. They were just doing their job the way they were taught to do their job. I learned a little bit of humility here. So thanks again for taking me in from off of the street and being a blessing in my life especially Miss Becky. I really really appreciate y'all. May God continue to bless you as you help other people in need
