Met the owner who was super kind and showed us around the studio. Love the mug + magnet we got. Great local artist, who makes very functional and beautiful pieces. The perfect souvenir or local decor for your home

I have purchased many articles from Jim over about 20 years and I love each of them as much now as when purchased. Each time we have first time visitors to Naples, The Clay Place is a must stop and I have to say they always purchase a beautiful, useful momento of their visit. One of a kind articles and Jim Rice is a one of a kind wonderful individual and artist!

Jim Rice obviously has his heart and soul into his pottery and art! He's a great guy and His studio is worth the visit just to look! I bought some fish to put in my pool, and get compliments every time someone sees them! If you decide to do that as well, they are best seen on one of the steps where it's not too deep. The only problem is the variety is almost too much to choose from! Beautiful soft pastel colors and a great all-around experience!

If you are looking for a unique gift either for yourself or for someone else, come check out the Clay Place. It is located at 1555 Shadowlawn Dr. on the corner of Davis Blvd. in Naples. The outside of the Clay Place is a beautiful garden with old trees that provide the perfect backdrop to the pottery pieces displayed outside. Inside you will find even more whimsical pieces to explore. The Clay Place has three buildings, a studio, a kiln room, and a gallery. The artist in residence is Jim Rice who I had the pleasure of meeting during my visit. Jim was born in Kent Ohio. In 1973 he moved to Naples where he opened his first studio. In 1980, he moved to his current location on Shadowlawn Drive. Jim creates environmental ceramic pieces that include fireplace tiles, wall murals, pool tiles, animals, planters, serving dishes, bowls, and house numbers. Colors used in the pottery are reflective of the nearby Gulf of Mexico. To quote Jim "Plattery will get you everywhere!" You can find his pottery decorating the The Naples Beach Hotel & Golf Club.Pottery ranges from a few dollars to the hundreds. The microwave bacon crisper ($35) would make a great hostess or shower gift as would the ($30) microwave egg poacher. While I was there someone was consulting Jim on their purchase of house numbers. This is a really unique and cool place to look around. You are sure to find something that you fall in love with.

Exquisite one of a Kind Beautiful hand made art work!! Had a Very Nice time & visit at 'The Clay Place" this past Saturday. Our daughter is getting Married. She has a wonderful idea. Since half of the guests & wedding party will be coming from out of town. The best way to give them a gift with Memories of the wedding & Naples, is from "The Clay Place" Jim Rice Owner/Artist was so kind, and helpful along with his wife Barbara who was very helpful with some great ideas. We video chatted with our daughter while we were at The Clay Place showing her ideas for the gift for the guests around the store. The wedding will be in April 2021. One of the last weddings to be held at the Historical Beach Club Hotel, built in the 1880's before it will be sold and torn down.Jim Rice has many of his Beautiful hand painted art work pieces throughout the hotel & on each hotel room door. Every door has its own one of a kind hand painted fish with the room number on them. Our daughter chose to purchase for each guest a fish that can be used for multiple things around the house. For example a display piece, a spoon holder, or jewelry holder, and many more ideas. We will have them as part of the table decorations on each place setting for the wedding guests. Made with the Bride & Groom name, date, & Jim Rice signature on the back. We are so very excited to have found a wonderful Local Artist who is willing to make our daughters wedding that much more Special for her.????????Thank You Jim Rice, ????????The Clay Place ????????????????
