We were in the Herlong Suite. We were very disappointed in our room. First, the bathroom, was dirty. We looked up; there were spider webs around the room; two had active spiders in them. The sink had redone porcelain that was severally peeling. It really gave it a dirty, unclean appearance. The spigots barely cleared the lip of the sink; you could not even put your toothbrush under the spigot to wet or rinse it. Some of the plumbing appeared to be coming loose and was unanchored. My white sport socks turned black on the bottom from walking around in the room in my socks. The bed was very uncomfortable, as well; it appeared that there was some kind of thick pad on the top of the mattress. When we opened the closet; the smell that came out was very dank and moldy. We quickly closed that door. It rained all night, quite hard at times. Right outside the windows was the portico that you can pull under to unload your bags. It had a rickety looking tin roof. That roof made it sound like there was a loud drum right outside the window most of the night. When it rained hard it was unbearable. I do not remember the last time I paid three hundred dollars for a room that had this many issues. On the positive side, the breakfast quiche was very good. The coffee was good, as well.We had neighbors who were drinking and partying on the veranda until after 9 pm. This was just outside our room. Thankful they ended it shortly after 9 pm. We will not return to this establishment. This grand old mansion, desperately needs upgrades.

What a wonderful experience! This was my wife's and I first authentic B&B experience and I must say it was divine. Kim, the current proprietor was a delight and allowed us to utilize some of the amenities before our check-in, awfully kind and considerate. We spent a total of 3 days and were sad to leave. Staying here was like going back to simpler times and a great retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city. Highly recommend to anyone!

We will be back for almost EVERY anniversary.Rooms: Each room is unique but they all provide all of the luxuries of a world class resort with the hometown feel of a air b and b

We thoroughly enjoyed every minute of our stay at The Herlong Mansion! Starting with the welcoming reception we receive from Sabrina, to the lovely time we shared with the Proprietor, Kim. This historic home is absolutely gorgeous... The hospitality, the ambience, the relaxing wine on the terrace and the delicious breakfast! The bed was extremely comfortable and the linens were amazing! Micanopy is such a charming town, and the Herlong Mansion is tucked away in the center of it all... and only a few minutes away from I-75 and HWY 441 - making it a quick and easy escape! Thank you for the hospitality, and we hope to return as often as possible!

Owner seems to be a typical "Karen" type. A friend of mine went to take a photo using the wooded area near the house as a background. The owner followed and harassed my friends because she was "worried" the house would be in the photo. The photo in question was taken on public property that happens to be adjacent to the house and there's no house even slightly visible in it. House looks beautiful but if that's the standard attitude and actions of the owner, I'd steer clear.Reply: I wasn't there and they were on public streets taking photos. Yes the car was parked there and they moved it immediately. Your decision to follow them, on public streets, after the car was moved from the lot, screams entitled Karen. You even had an off duty police officer tell you exactly how you were wrong. Your response just screams the attitude you seem to possess. Good luck with your business, you seem more of "do what I say because I say it" than customer service (or even neighbor friendly).

Beautiful. Gorgeous. Tranquil. I suppose I'm biased because my wife and I were married here in 2008. However, if you're staying the night in North Florida and looking for peace and hospitality, this is it!

First off, I thought it was awfully inconsiderate and rude to ask us to park first during pouring down rain instead of allowing us to quickly get out under a dry covered carport during check in (which was what we were instructed to do via email). Ourselves, belongings, and luggage were all wet and muddy. Nobody was behind us waiting. The suggestion of using an umbrella for ourselves and luggage doesn't help. Our room definitely looked bigger, opulent, and better in pictures! Also, online pictures looked like there was beautiful wood trim on the ceiling, but it was just a wallpaper border, and it was coming loose. There were only two small pictures close together on one wall. Another wall had just a mirror above the fireplace. Room felt stark. We found the room to be dirty and dusty. Furniture needs regular cleaning, too! The top of the shower curtain rod was so dirty! Luckily, before I was about to drape a damp towel to dry over the rod, I happened to wipe a small area first. The wipe was thick with grime. Things needed to be repaired like the missing plaster areas on walls, only one working electrical outlet available, broken/loose pieces on the bed frame, and leaking plumbing in the tub. I believe we were getting septic fumes because it was a constant odor in the entire room, and room spray didn't mask it enough! We wouldn't be there for hours and would come back to a stinky room. Beds were horribly hard and made trying to sleep painful. Bedspring(?) made too much noise at the slightest movements. We talked to other guests, and they said their beds were comfortable. Some guests were VERY disrespectful of other guests and were very noisy, especially multiple times each night. Breakfast the first morning was inedible to us. We had to pick up food elsewhere. Salty broccoli (with extra broccoli) and eggs in the morning doesn't ever sound like an appetizing breakfast...to us at least. The second morning was definitely better but lacked in some flavor. Blueberry muffins were awesome, though. It was nice having access to hot tea, coffee, and cookies whenever we wanted, but if you don't care for cookies or if on a diet, there's nothing else available to snack on. The local stores or restaurants mostly close early, so if you're hungry, you'll have to plan ahead. Make a reservation for the Italian restaurant close by, leave, or go hungry. A little table or area to purchase snacks would've been lovely. Especially some of the samplings of locally made foods to purchase would've been nice. I'm giving four stars because the historical house itself was beautiful and grand. The second story porch was awesome and comfortable, and where we spent the majority of the time while there. The area is so peaceful, quaint, and lovely. Definitely wouldn't have booked a two night stay if we knew we were going to have so many issues. We were ready to go home after the first sleepless night. I think spending nearly $600 for a problematic two nights stay was not worth our experience. If I'm going to spend that much money, it better be merited. I was real letdown after always having wanted to stay here since the early 90's...although I really appreciate the chance to have stayed. If, for some reason, we decided to try again, we would definitely pick a different room and one that might more deserve that price! Definitely didn't end up being the restful, romantic, and recharging getaway we desperately needed!Except for one instance, we didn't share any of our concerns simply because we were never once asked while there?!? I wasn't going to leave a review at all because there is so much negativity, but it's really irked me, and I think future guests should be aware.Rooms: I would check out the rooms first in person and test the comfort of the bed before booking if at all possible.Safety: We felt very safe while there.Walkability: Easily walkable area to shops, coffee, dessert, parks, food and churches, etc.

Herlong Mansion looks beautiful from the front but building and rooms are showing their age. Walls need patching and repairing. Ceiling fan was so old and noisy we had to turn off. Same with air conditioning unit - too noisy for us to sleep. 'Bathroom' as such needs major upgrade. Breakfast was 'take it or leave it' - no healthy choice offered. Yes - it's historical and old but it's not ' charming' old. Great location in quiet, sleepy Micanopy but really needs a total upgrade. We will not be staying again. Just an honest review.

Thank you to Kim and staff. We had a wonderful stay. The mansion, the rooms, and the grounds are beautiful and very comfortable. It was like traveling back in time but with all of the modern conveniences. So many thoughtful touches in the room and the breakfast was outstanding. The staff was so helpful and courteous. I can't say enough about the experience! We will definitely be back soon. Thank you for your outstanding hospitality!

We recently filled up the entire Herlong Mansion with the wedding party and special guests for our daughter's wedding. From the minute folks checked in we all felt as if we were guests in the home of very gracious hosts. Wonderful accommodations, great breakfasts, cookies and wine available. And they made sure we could watch the Jags playoff game in the parlor that night. The Herlong made a special weekend even more special.

What a hidden gem in the most unexpected place! We stayed just one night and were looking for a place to do nothing and this was a much needed oasis! The house is beautiful! The grounds are stunning! The smell of Jasmine from every corner of the property was intoxicating! The accommodations were well appointed, and the attention to detail is on point. The inn owner made our stay memorable at every turn and we were pleasantly surprised with the little downtown area. Though I would say go later in the week as most shops were not open Monday or Tuesday. Treat yourself to this magical place, you will not be disappointed!

This Bed and Breakfast is quite possibly the most beautiful hotel in the state of Florida, and most definitely the most beautiful we have ever seen. I loved the history told through the displays, the balcony, porch swings, and rocking chairs... and my husband and I especially enjoyed the wine and gourmet cookies that welcomed our arrival... and the breakfast was outstanding! There were a few kinks however... a shower that alternated between steaming hot and icy cold, French doors leading out to a shared balcony that wouldn't lock, and no one at the front desk to contact. I also think the house needs some updates and renovations to accommodate those travelers who are accustomed to amenities, including a charger or USB port in your room... there is only one charger and a single TV on the property, and both are in the lounge. Also, service is important... a concierge or at least a desk attendant should be a must in a place such as this. When we arrived a hotel guest had to unlock the door for us.
