Such an interesting place to visit. Hampton House, a former Green Book hotel where so many icons once stayed—from Aretha Franklin to Billie Holiday to MLK and Muhammed Ali. Go see the room where MLK stayed —outfitted with a side door in case he needed a quick escape. Haunting history getting preserved and examined afresh here…

Love this place. Starting with the architecture and followed by the history of this Hotel / Motel of an era where black and white folks were legally separated. The best have stayed here. Malcom C, Muhammad Ali, James Brown or Mr. King. They have all been there and it’s worth visiting the “gimme shelter” exhibition. The only place that didn’t make the cut is the “theater “ part of the building. It has been renovated with a flair of a moser day train station. It’s a shame they couldn’t keep the original glamour of the place. It’s as cozy as an emergency room of a university hospital.Other than that. Go visit it in the morning when it’s lit up by the morning sun. It’s a really pretty sight.

An important piece of history, this is Miami’s only Greenbook hotel that’s still standing. Edwin was a wonderful and very knowledgeable tour guide.

This is a must see!! We stopped by at the end of the day and had the most amazing personal tour. Edwin Sheppard is so enthusiastic, knowledgeable and patient, answering all our questions and allowing us to take our time going through the exhibits. The perfect tour guide. The history of the hotel is fascinating and being in the rooms that Muhammad Ali and Martin Luther King Jr stayed in was a deeply moving experience. This museum is a national treasure!

We took our students on a tour of the Hampton House as part of our Miami Black History tours series and it did not disappoint. I was impressed with the model rooms that Cassius Clay and MLK stayed in. The guides at the Hampton House were exceptionally knowledgeable and it was a treat to see so much memorabilia from both the stage production and the film One Night in Miami. I would highly recommend watching the film prior to the visit because it really helps bring the play/movie to life. I will be returning with students next year!

Historic hotel from back in the Jim Crow days. lots of memorabilia from the movie “One Night in Miami” and the days when MLK, Malcolm X AND Cassius Clay frequented the hotel. The guides Edwin and LaCrissia do a great job bringing that history to life. It’s for everyone but a must see for Black history. I can’t believe how few people know about this gem.

Visit on a girls trip and the Hampton House was on our Itinerary for the day. Lacrisha was our tour guide and she was great! She is also from VA which was pretty cool. The tour lasted about 50-60 minutes and we had a great time. I'm really glad we stopped by here. If you are into history I would recommend you take a tour!
