“What a spectacular experience our Alper JCC campers had this summer at Whispering Manes! Our special needs campers loved grooming the horses and the staff made it such a special day for them. The pictures we brought home tell beautiful stories, and our staff absolutely loved being hands-on, supporting this experience through their campers' eyes. Camp J Miami Tikvah campers would love to come back summer after summer!”

“Style Saves is the most amazing organization that helps thousands of children every year. I just completed my summer internship with Style Saves, and I could not feel more lucky and rewarded to have been a part of such a wonderful team and mission. My internship allowed me to learn new things, develop important career skills, and help our community all at once. Thank you to Rachael, Isabela, Laura and Gaby! You all are incredible women and I’m so lucky to have been able to work with you!”

“I love this school for the simple thing: my kids love this school. They go happy every morning, they leave happy every day. Staff and teachers are super nice, super friendly. I feel safe to have my autistic kids in this school. It’s so sad now for kindergarten they did not get a spot there. Even thought I give 5 stars! And keep up the great work, team!”

“Amazing staff and volunteers working hard every day to rehab local wildlife. Enclosures offer a limited view to the public, meaning you can view the animals in such a way that it doesn't disturb them.”

“The non profit Tropical Audubon Society (TAS) has its origins as the Coconut Grove Audubon Society (CGAS), founded April 16, 1915, as Dade County's first Audubon organization. CGAS members met in homes and worked to advocated for bird and wildlife protection, protection of birds hunted for their plumes with the hiring of game wardens, ornithological education for school children and the public, and they also collaborated in the movement to establish Everglades National Park. WWII led to the CGAS becoming inactive in 1942. Led by Charles Brookfield, then employed by National Audubon Society, a new chapter of the National Audubon Society was established in 1947. The Tropical Audubon Society (TAS) has been on the frontlines of conservation and environmental protection issues in South Florida. The mission of the Tropical Audubon Society is to "conserve and restore South Florida ecosystems, focusing on birds, wildlife, and their habitats. The Tropical Audubon Society has been headquartered at the 1932 Doc Thomas House since 1976. It has been designated a Miami-Dade County Historic Site, a Florida Heritage Site, and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Arden Hayes Thomas, Jr. was a pharmacist from Indiana who moved to South Miami in 1925, and opened the O. K. Drug Store just months before the Great Miami Hurricane of 1926. His business grew to managing two stores on Sunset Drive and Thomas invested in a 2.5 acres of property on the south side of Sunset Drive in the subdivision of High Pines. He commissioned Robert Fitch Smith, one of the first six graduates of the University of Miami architecture program, to create a home that would look like part of the piney landscape. He created a rustic house in the Florida wood-frame vernacular style of architecture that exemplified the influence of the Arts and Crafts movement. Created out of cypress, oak, pine mahogany, and local limestone, the home has detailed woodwork, a limestone fireplace, and built in features. Fitch went on to a storied career as an architect, taught at the University of Miami, and served on the first City of Miami Planning Board. In the 1950's Doc Thomas retired and traveled the world. A life long conservationist and bachelor, Doc Thomas decided to leave his home and the surrounding 2 acres of woodlands to the TAS. He deeded the property to them in December of 1974 and he passed away exactly one year later. Since 1976 the house has functioned as the home of Tropical Audubon Society while the surrounding acreage now serves as the Steinberg Nature Center.I discovered this delightful nature oasis and historic home in the middle of South Miami while eating lunch in the area. The gate is open so you can walk around what feels like a a secret garden. On Saturday, January 7, 1-2pm or 3-4pm the Tropical Audubon Society will host a public tour of the historic Doc Thomas House headquarters which has recently undergone structural repair and restoration. The tour is free although donations are welcome and lasts for 1 hour guided by a Tropical Audubon docent. The tour focuses on Arden Hayes "Doc" Thomas and Robert Fitch Smith and explores the near-native Steinberg Nature Center campus. The Steinberg Nature Center contains Pine Rockland, a globally endangered ecosystem. It is only located in south Miami, the Keys, and parts of the Bahamas. Pine Rockland once covered 180,000 acres or 12 percent of Miami but by the time Miami turned 100 in 1996, less than 2 percent remained. Today only fragments of the Pineland remain. It is a critical refuge for endangered plants and animals, some not found anywhere else in the world. Come out and learn about this important ecosystem and the pioneers who lived here and built South Miami.”

“I would like to thank “Shawn” for helping me to find this center & her “Excellent “ & outstanding customer service skills . “Shawn” helps serve the food there to the elderly community she is such a caring person with a meek spirit she & goes out of her way to help others she has a very humble character which makes her the beautiful person she is. I went there with my 3 grand children everyone was so kind to them from entering the premises to leaving. The lady who takes your number & served the meals was so sweet. However, unfortunately & sorry I can’t remember her name or the 2 wonderful & kind ladies names that were at the front desk on Tuesday 1/3/23. These 2 ladies they went out of their way to help me as well. Those 2 ladies should be recognized highly for their outstanding customer service & going the extra mile they were wonderful. I also want to recognize the young lady that signed me up for the food program “Keyla” such a beautiful personality the meal coordinator excellent customer service also. In addition the young lady “Acia” she was not in at my initial visit she was the one needed to meet for help. However, I met her yesterday she was very helpful & kind as well . All I know is that in this life we may never know when we may find ourselves needing help no matter how minimal. But I thank “God” he placed all these special individuals in my path. I feel It was just meeting them & their reception that made the difference. To all that may read this review their are programs out their to help don’t hesitate to reach out especially to this office they will welcome you without judgement.”

“From the email newsletter, I was aware of the Kosher food distribution on Tues 5/11/21, 9-11am . It said don't arrive before Thanksgiving 9, yet when I got there @ 8:30 the line was all the way south around the bend to Biscayne Blvd. I was the last car turning into that one-way from Biscayne Blvd . It took only the half hour to reach the loading area inside their parking lot.Thank you!!! I was happy for the milk&cereal and jug of o.j. plus the cans of fruit cocktail, but I cannot cook, so I gave away the rice&beans and frozen chicken thigh/legs. (I gave my sister the spaghetti & apples. She cooked it and gave me dinner.) I was thrilled with the 2-pound choppedmeat, microwaved it in 3 separate instances with the cans of tomato sauce. I would've loved TWO challah breads. Thank you.I also deeply appreciate your weekly senior meal delivery, and the breakfast box is an added bonus. I feel safer NOT having to venture forth into crowed supermarkets, even now that a few people don't believe in vaccines, and masks are being eliminated in lots of places. Thanks again and again,Fran”
