The South Lake Worth Inlet is also called the Boynton Inlet. It can be accessed by Ocean Inlet Park. The inlet is bordered by the town of Manalapan to the north and the town of Ocean Ridge to the South. In the mid-19th century Lake Worth Lagoon was a fresh water lake with no connection to the ocean. In 1866 the Lake Worth Inlet was cut near the north end of the lagoon turning the fresh water lake brackish and it also became polluted by cities who were dumping raw sewage. In 1925 construction was started an on inlet on the south end of lagoon that would allow the polluted water to be flushed out into the ocean. A bridge over the inlet opened September 3, 1926 allowing automobile traffic to continue through to Palm Beach along Ocean Boulevard. The inlet was completed in 1927 after which it became popular for picnics and fishing. A side effect of the creation of the inlet was that it impeded the natural sand flow to the south of the inlet which resulted in erosion along those beaches. To combat the problem In 1937, the world's first fixed sand bypassing plant, was created in 1937 which reduced the erosion. During WWII the U.S. Coast Guard took over the Mar Lago Hotel on the inlet and used it to look for German U Boats around the inlet. The creation of the inlet launched the economy of the area by making it a fishing and boating destination. The Inlet allows for easy access to the Atlantic Ocean and Gulf Stream. It is one of the few places you can reach the ocean from the Intracoastal Waterway. In 1988, the county improved Ocean Inlet Park park and its amenities. The park is still a popular destination for people seeking recreation today.Today you can park at Ocean Inlet Park to access the Boynton Inlet Pier which extends out over the ocean. Made of concrete, it is a popular fishing spot in the area. Tarpon are a prized catch. Unlike a lot of piers in the area there is no charge to use the Boynton Inlet Pier. I like to just walk out on the pier to get a view of the ocean. Anglers can also fish from the north side via the vehicle bridge.

Cool pier. The water is not very deep but there’s plenty of people fishing

The parking is across the street at Ocean Inlet Park. The pier sticks out into the ocean making it a great place to fish. But there is also a great beach going north from the pier. This is a nice beach with no lifeguards. Lots of people go to the first couple of hundred feet of this beach. After that it just has a few people walking for the next mile or more. It’s nice to have a beach without too many people. Everyone is in good shape since it’s a bit of a walk to get to this beach. There aren't any facilities there but you can always walk back to Ocean Inlet Park. There seem to be park police there often. Both walking the pier and riding ATVs up the beach. Only 4 stars as there isn't any parking or faciliites in this park and access is from across the street.

I have much to thank God for and be grateful for here. Long story short. Thank u to the bestie for taking me paddle boarding. Thank u to man that talked to me while I floated on my board through the inlet. Thanks to the lifeguard that came in for me.

Great free place to fish. Two small piers to use. You can also fish on the inland side where the park is.

Boynton Inlet Pier is one very strong pier! It's solid concrete and super wide. It's s great place to watch the boats coming in and out of the inlet. There is no fee to walk this pier. The day we visited, there were a few people fishing. One had a bucket full of fish that he had caught. I liked having the round metal railing to hold onto while enjoying the view. I could visit here every week. Its so relaxing!

We didn’t catch anything but the pier was very nice, clean and scenic . The tide was high that day so the water kept splashing up, be sure to take a jacket ! I was actually more intrigued with the inlet across the street . You can fish there too and see a bit more wildlife .

Excellent place to relax. Beach very clean, clear water and soft waves, free parking lots, neither noise nor amplified music. Nice pier but I didn’t get good luck, catched nothing (ha ha ha)
